This was by far the best condition vacuum I’ve ever bought on eBay especially for the price. With one exception: inside was a full bag and I mean FULL. Why on earth would someone not take five seconds and remove the dirty bag before shipping a vac to someone? I spent a little time Saturday removing a few scuffs and just did a quick clean of all the surface dirt and dust but otherwise, great condition. A few small dings if you look closely but I can live with that. It even came with the original braided hose as well as the newer hose. The braided hose is in pretty good condition overall except for the typical wear near the handle. I’m just missing a couple of attachments and the extra wands for the floor tool but I’ve already taken care of buying some of that on eBay for delivery later this week.

One question I have though is about the finish of the metal on the top cover of the Ultralux LX. Reading some old posts and looking at pictures it seems like almost all of them have the crinkle finish but this one is very smooth and shiny. Were only a few made like this early (or late) in the production run?

And, they mailed you dirt. yikes. Dirt is heavy = expensive to ship.
But, ENJOY your machine!

The finish could be dependent on the version. I know there was a classic and an LX. Like you have. Great vacuum! I had one at one time.

I've never bought a vacuum that didn't have a full bag in it. I don't mind. I like to see what the last things vacuumed up with it was before it was stored away. When I emptied out one of the Kirbys I bought, I found a torn up $5 bill from 1968 inside the bag, I thought that was cool, and it told me the vacuum had not been run since at least the early 1970's.

I know the ultralux Classic has the crinkle finish. But I could have sworn I saw some LX’s with the crinkle finish as well as smooth/shiny. I’ll go back and look again.

Here's one I found online of the Ultralux LX with crinkled finish. There were also several posted by members here. I assume they switched maybe in the second year of the LX and then kept the same finish for the Classic?

Yes, full bags seem to be almost standard equipment on used vacuums, regardless of how they're acquired. I've had a few exceptions, though, and actually two of them were trash finds. The Diplomat LX I rescued from beside a dumpster earlier this year had no bag in it and my Discovery II that I nabbed from the curb a few years ago had a brand new bag in it. Who puts a brand new bag in a vacuum cleaner and then drops it at the curb? I've never shipped vac to someone but I would certainly save unnecessary weight—and cost—by jettisoning the bag. As a courtesy, and perhaps as a selling point, I could see including a brand new 'starter' bag.

My Ultralux LX finish

I had gotten an Ultralux LX off eBay for a friend, it has the textured finish and was not very shiny I had to polish it up. I think the machine had sat in a basement for a while and it caused the finish to dull.

In fact I’ve never seen any machines of this series (two button power switch) with the shiny smooth mirror finish chrome top except the Diamond Jubilee, the first of this series.

The Ultralux LX has the on and off wording in both French and English. My Marquise just has ON and OFF wording and the diamond jubilee just had on and off indented on the buttons themselves.

The Marquise has the body colored mauve matched top metal, but I wish it was the chrome style, I just like that better. I won’t change it as the body is in nearly perfect condition and it’s rare to find units in such good condition.

I had one with the smooth finish...can't remember if it was Classic or other. I gave it to an ex as a parting gift when we split!

That's a magnificent example. Congratulations from one Electrolux fan to another.

I couldn't see me saying to any of my exes, "Get out of my life. And, here, take a cleaner". But, I can see YOU doing it.
