I'm currently in the midst of refurbishing my Fantom Fury (yet again), as it smells pretty bad during use.
So I'm attempting to take apart the cyclone assembly, but I just can't disassemble it completely! Everything's stuck together. First, I removed 5 Phillips screws on the back and pulled the assembly away from the vacuum. After that, I removed a screw from the top-back part of the assembly. Then the trouble began... I noticed that the carrying handle on top was loose, so my instinct was to simply twist the handle off. I did so, but I heard a loud SNAP which broke the handle off completely. What an idiotic move. Looking at the place where the handle broke, I saw an upside-down screw. I then proceeded to twist the surrounding plastic off using a pair of pliers, but that doesn't loosen the screw at all. My next attempt was done by using brute force. I tried pulling the cyclone part away from the black plastic, but only one side comes loose, while the other side just sticks. In addition, twisting the shroud does nothing to loosen the cyclone assembly. Now I'm stuck at this point. Does anyone have any advice on how to properly disassemble the cyclone assembly? I'd love to know, as service info on the Fantom Fury is so obscure that Googling it won't get me anywhere. Here are some pics of what I'm taking about. The second-to-last pic is not mine; it was cropped from an old eBay listing for a refurbished 10 amp Fury. The last one is a schematic of the Fury. |
