I need help with any info about a vintage Montgomery Wards shampooer/vacuum cleaner. I would like to know when it was made and possibly instructions for use. I believe this one has never been used. It's all original, tanks and filter are clean. The round canister lifts out and can be used like a shop vac. The hoses and tools fit inside where cleaner fluid tank is. Has wheels on bottom. Was found buried in garage when original owner passed.

The was sold also as the Douglas Home Cleaning Center. Some came with the rotating brush power nozzle for vacuum cleaning rugs as well as shampooing them.
I have the brochure, and I think the instructions as well. Will look for them. Made in the early 1980's.

I knew it!

I kept thinking that it looked like something Douglas made as a poor man’s version of a Thermax. What were they thinking???

Woah, that's pretty cool! I've never seen one of those before, looks like it was likely Montgomery Ward's version of the Sears Home Cleaning System. Although this looks a lot different.

I agree it does remind one of a Thermax, kind of.

Or those hideous original Bissel machines from the same era.

Loud, underpowered, no active carpet brush, cheap plastic wands, difficult to move base unit.  But everyone wanted into the market as even the Rugdoctor machines back then were canister based and bulky.

Back then, carpet was a BIG thing.  It wasn't rare to have carpet in your kitchen.  Some people even had carpeting on the walls, especially in commercial locations.  It was a fun time.

Interestingly, I found a catalog page about this unit in the Christmas catalog site:
