Blaze,

You have a model 656Z built in June of 1994; this one would have the carbon brush ports on the motor housing.

This was the economy model in Royal's lineup of commercial-grade metal upright cleaners.

I love the smaller, lighter feel of them,in my home the Kirby is a little bulky. They also have a very pleasant sound!

I believe the sandblasted royals with that bag were called The Dukes I believed it was named after John "The Duke" Wayne. They were commercial use and easy to repair. You could literally hang them nozzle down.
My royal 880 with 5.4 motor is very powerful and effecient.
The motor housing does accumulate alot of hair. Do not use on runner rugs with lose strands or any small stuffed animals. The metal fan will make your stuffed animal a lump of stuff.
If you get height adjustment perfect one of the best cleaners you will find.
Les

Les,

If that is true about the connection to John Wayne (regarding Royal's Duke line of commercial uprights), then I wonder if their outer bags were red since that was also the color of the hair of Wayne's frequent co-star, Maureen O'Hara?

Nice find!

I love the look, feel, and sound of the metal Royals. Yours may be an economy model but it's easily repairable and it will hold up over time. I have a different model, and it does a great job on my rugs.

I used to have the 1030Z like this but it used disposable bags. That was my first Royal. I regret getting rid of that machine along with the other commercial vacuums that I've inherited with it. It was the best vacuum that I've ever used on carpets! I liked the looks of these more than the newer orange ones.

Alex,

Don't be too sad about the 1030Z.

I just managed to get my first ever Royal Heavy Duty Commercial upright cleaner, and also for free... mine's the model 662Z, built in 1987. It was the successor to the long-running 606.

Yeah I hope to find another one or even reacquire the same one that I used to own someday. I also had another Royal commercial upright before as well but I don't remember that one too well and it wasn't my favorite anyways. I'm now actually thinking about getting this old vintage Royal that I found at an old abandoned log cabin a while ago, it was still there the last time I checked. Not sure if it runs though.

Alex,

That one is a model 801 built August 1973. Too bad about its outer bag, though...I would still get it since it still runs. Good luck!

Alright I'll contact my cousin and see if the Royal is still there or not and if I'm allowed to take anything from inside of there or not. I'm assuming that it still is and I don't see why not take anything from inside of there. I would probably just have someone up in Idaho fix, service, or rebuilt it for me since I don't think I would have the time to do it myself.

As far as the heater goes, not sure if I want it anyways since we already have one.
