Another "shelter in place" project: A photo shoot of my Electrolux Silverado. It's hard to believe this vacuum cleaner is 37 years old!

I guess this dates me, but I remember when the Silverado came out. It was the first model since the Model E-Automatic to have a chevron pattern in the hose instead of stripes and I really liked its nostalgic appearance.

(I have an original Silverado hose but I don't like it, in spite of its beautiful appearance -- it's too short, too stiff and too heavy, same as for all the woven electric hoses. The genuine Electrolux replacement coiled vinyl hose is longer, more flexible, lighter in weight and far easier to use.)

Chevron

Olympias have the Chevron hose as well. Good looking machine with the new style power nozzle.

Beautiful Silverado. One of my best friends had one of these growing up but it always sat unused in their basement storage room. His mom dragged a heavy Kirby Heritage 1 up and down all three levels of the house. She even took the head off the Kirby and used the tools for the hard floors and cars. This was the late 80's and I was always surprised they never used the Electrolux. It looked brand new.

Funny, I usually do the exact opposite. I generally use an Electrolux when tools and attachments are needed and a Kirby for straight floor cleaning,

My Silverado Deluxe

With the Guardian Platinum. Yours is exactly like mine. PN5, vinyl hose and everything. The only thing I see that is different is yours has a short crevice tool whereas mine has the standard sized one. I really like the look of these! You got yourself a nice machine! That is one of my favorite models.

The Silverado is a fine vacuum cleaner in every regard. I love mine. I have had a couple come and go over the years, including a Silverado Deluxe (which I didn't like as much). This beautiful specimen with the hose and power nozzle came from Fred Nelson. I added the aluminum wands, combo floor tool, dusting brush, mini crevice tool and Sidekick to complete it. The gray bags are "period appropriate"  to the Silverado. The literature is from my paperwork archives.

Those are my all time favorite design of Electrolux bags, period correct in the gray color and love that Electrolux logo with the curved rectangle, the trademark shape of the series started with the 1205. Even the rubber gasket and seal at the bottom of the bag was colored accordingly! Next I like the yellow bags.

You Silverado is nearly identical to mine as well, including the replacement hose. I did have an the original PN5 but gave it to one of my friends with a Diamond Jubilee. I kept the power nozzle I had gotten with the Diamond Jubilee because it was an Ultralux version with the headlight and the brush bristles are closer together and more dense so It seems to do a better job brushing up the carpet pile. When I bought my Silverado from the used vacuum store it had the PN5 there with it but it wouldn’t work, but there was a Marquis era LE machine there too and so I asked the guy to give me that power nozzle instead of my having to wait for him to figure out what was wrong with it as a bad thunderstorm was coming and I wanted to get back home, but I got caught in the storm anyway. So mine had the Marquis power nozzle. I did give that one away with an Ultralux also due to no headlight and the less dense bristles. Kind of wish I kept it because now I also have a Marquise with a beautiful scratch and dent free body and love the coloring and it would be nice to have the matching PN, but for now it too has an Ultralux lighted PN.

Those are beautiful Silverados.

Wonderful staging with that curtain backdrop.

The hose upgrade= excellent choice.

Swell-looking Silverado Deluxe set.

Correction: The Olympia One 1401 and bronze Deluxe Special Model 1453, introduced in 1979, were equipped with a chevron pattern hose.

Thanks for the correction on the hose. For some reason I keep thinking that the Olympia came after the Silverado. I'm getting senile in my old age!

The last vacuum you’ll ever need to buy!

Interesting in photo 8 ad says this could none the last vacuum you’ll ever need to buy. I wonder what Electrolux was thinking as a life span at that time? Clearly they knew their older machines were lasting quite a long time and this one's motor was built very similarly. Anyway, mine is at least 36 years old now and still going as many of these still are. My Brother has one too that is the earlier version with the PN4A and it’s still going and I believe my cousin’s Silverado is still going, hers with the PN4A as I saw her a few years ago and she said she still has it but called it “old now” as I was bringing up remembering when she had first gotten it brand new for Christmas 1982.

Knowing there are many older models still going and this was an improvement over those in ways, undoubtedly these will continue on for more years. I did have one I got off eBay for a friend, but the motor died and I replaced it so it has died but had a “transplant”.

Charles...a manual request!

Hi Charles...since you have your Silverado out in it’s entirety...I’ve never seen a manual in all its glory and since I have a Silverado...would like to see it in its entirety or at the very least, their explanation on the automatic control system. I completely know what it does and how it works and have seen the explanation in a model G and 1205 manual, and something older too but I wonder if they changed it in this manual. I’m intrigued at how they have explained it’s operation and how to use over the years in the various manuals. It’s a complicated system and somewhat difficult to explain without a lengthy explanation of how it works to then understand how to use it properly.

Thank You, Jon
