Oh, my mistake. Sorry. Or, actually, the mistake of the person who told me about it.

Carry on...

This virus is picking off a lot of businesses that were already struggling to keep afloat before it and just completely snuffing them out. I found out like 7 mom and pop stores of various wares have all permanently closed in my area. A couple of chain restaurants too that had a couple of businesses out here also decided that the population of the city versus their revenue wasn't worth keeping it open and decided to focus on saving their more profitable locations.

I hear you.  And such is business.  They come in distribute their wares and then they go away.  Some stay longer than others.  But nothing stays around forever.

I wonder if like 100 years ago people were just as fussy as us.

Candle stick makers:"Oh dear Gertrude, did you see that Frank the candle stick maker has retired to Florida?  Said he can't compete with the big box stores.  What ever shall we do now?  I guess we'll have to settle for gas lighting or perhaps those new fangled electric lights. "

Black smiths- "John, last night the smithys shop burned to the ground!  Something about open cinders being dangerous?  Casualty says they won't pay out to rebuild.  Don't have any tarnation's idea what to do.  I need to get my horses new shoes as I need to take my sweet Anne to the acupuncturist for her rheumatoid treatments.  Don't know how I'm going to get there.  Might have to get one of those blasted dang automobile machines.  terrible smelly things..."

Butter churns- "Geraldine, the handle on my buttah churns gone wonky.  Now that the 5 and dime has closed due to building code violations and the sheriff finding the manager was dealing illegal horse pills, I just have no clue how to make butter for my pastries.  I wonder if this Sears catalog would have anything in it?"

Funny you should mention...

"I wonder if this Sears catalog would have anything in it?"

Most people don't realize it, but Sears was the Amazon of its day. It was the giant mail-order Goliath that put many mom-and-pop stores out of business with lower prices and better selection.

Its demise, partially at the hands of Amazon, is proof that there's nothing new under the sun.
