Ask him what he would consider it an antique, and explain to him why it wouldn’t be considering age, design ect, plus if you show him of why you know it wouldn’t be considered an antique, Because essentially what he would be doing is banning a mechanic from auto parts store, Plus if he knows that you know that you have a large amount of knowledge about them, Instead of banning you he may respect you
Good luck and don’t get banned |

It's because of the Coronavirus. All stores are banning returns on anything to prevent the virus spread. It comes from that false hype that was promoted that the virus lives on all surfaces and things you touch (so do a million other germs).
Maybe you misunderstood them, but if they used that specific tone that you typed, then I'm wondering why they thought to act that way? Bad mood or something? Threatening the customer like that is by all means a big no. I'd leave a negative review on Yelp or Facebook regardless. I had to fight with a stupid Goodwill manager before for trying to charge me $4 per DVD on a big 40 DVD box set of the TV show "24" (It would have been like $400? way out of control). I kept trying to explain that you do not charge per DVD, it's the entire set, you charge maybe $20 and that's it. She wouldn't listen and started copping an attitude, so I told them keep it. I contacted Goodwill corporate when I got home and told them what happened and gave the names of employees that witnessed it, and when I went back there maybe 3 weeks later - she was gone. The cashier remembered me though and they said she got fired - evidently she had a past history of being rude and nasty to her own staff at that store and they had enough reports filed to terminate her. Sometimes people dig their own holes by how they treat strangers. You did get a nice Model AE(?) Electrolux though! |

Well, people get banned from things for all sorts of reasons.
As far as a store... They'd have to have a pretty darn good reason. I don't think I'd frequent there anymore. We don't HAVE to spend our money OR time where we're not appreciated. There are OTHER stores, shops, vac stores, etc. Years ago, an old priest said to me, "John, NEVER hang around places where you're not welcome and NEVER bother with people who don't believe in you". A very wise man. And, I don't. Ever. |

A business can refuse service to anyone for any reason. When I worked retail refused to sell alcohol or cigarettes to people. You would get a $700 fine if an undercover caught you not checking IDs.
If someone had money and wanted to buy something that didn't require IDs I'd sale it. If they returned it I didn't care. The company uses it as a debit on the balance sheet. People let power go to to their head. Les |

Playing Devil's advocate:
Perhaps the cashier was joking? Meaning: It's obviously going to need some work, so don't come crying for a refund if you have difficulty. Ha Ha. Or maybe they're confusing you with someone who looks similar? This doesn't really make sense. All they had to say was "There's no return on that item". Then write "Sold as seen" on your receipt. I would avoid them. Here in the UK, our thrift-stores (charity shops) usually have very poor attitudes. They take the best items for themselves. Second best for their friends. Hide anything decent and list it on eBay. Consider themselves expert antiques valuers. Make up prices based on what you appear to be able to afford. Because they work for free, they think no-one else needs money. They make up silly prices. Their Business Rates (taxes) and overheads are heavily subsidised by us taxpayers. Their Directors are on £100,000+ salaries, and they even set 'sales targets'. There is no "charity". Not even for homeless people who need warm clothing. They're ruthless businesses. Ask them what percentage of profit goes to charity. 5%? 6%? |

Wow that's pretty crappy. I mean, in the States, they are all businesses. Sometimes they are attached to a charitable organization, but the store itself is a non-government owned business. I'll grant, they probably do a lot of the same stuff here (like keeping all the good stuff), but the workers are paid employees (at least all the ones I've known). And the company pays taxes to the government, not the other way around. Though, the ones connected to a charity probably don't pay much taxes.
