So in my spare time I refurb bagless vacs, or vacs that I don't consider collectible and sell them on Facebook for pretty cheap. Recently, I tried to sell a bagless Bissell. The buyer made his arrival time later and later, kept apologizing and offered an additional 10 bucks for the inconvenience. He said he arrived so I went to my front porch to see a black car pull in then immediately leave. I was puzzled so I checked my phone to see a message that said 'I'm good, thanks anyway'. I was confused and asked why, his response was 'I don't like your kind'.

I immediately thought he doesn't like gays, but there's nothing on my house to indicate that so I replied with 'my kind?' He replied 'cops.

I immediately remembered my retired Crown Vic with the law enforcement supporter plate. Admittedly you don't have to be a cop to own one or have that plate. I happen to be a county reserve. I told him he had nothing to be concerned of, he's just buying a vacuum. But no, he said he's on probation and doesn't want to report any interactions, has had nothing but bad interactions with 'us'. In the future I'll put old Vicky in the garage. Small world I guess!

Nice a crown vic. I bet they have a warrant or something.
I refurbish bagless too. I had to go buy a torx 15 security bit. I got a shark navigator liftaway professional. The brush roll isn't spinning it has to be the belt.
They have a free orreck with a dead motor. My wife said you hate orrecks.
Maybe let them know you drive a crown Vic.

Sadly, there are a lot of people who have had very bad experiences with law enforcement. And not all of them are criminals.

That said, however, Les is probably right.

Oh it wouldn't be the first time.

If someone sees a surplus Police Interceptor and its still kitted out with the police parts that are OK to be left on it (street appearance rims, spotlights, antennas, pushbar), they're gonna be looking at you hard to see if you're a cop. The LE supporter plate just sealed the deal for that guy.

A guy several blocks away from me who left his CVPI on the street - I drove past it on the way to the grocery store one day and seen someone egged the hell out of it. Some kids probably thought it was the actual police. lol

Nothing wrong with a Crown Vic. Excellent cars and super cheap to get parts because they rarely changed anything on them for 2 decades.

If that guy just got out on parole and the first thing he was looking for was a vacuum cleaner - it seems super sketchy to me. It's just such a weird thing. You'd figure maybe an apartment, a job, some food, a fridge, something. You got lucky.

I would assume he was looking to case houses through Facebook ads and see what kind of locks are on doors and how the neighborhood is and he got paranoid that you might be a cop. That's my guess. It's one reason why I quit selling stuff on Craigslist - this was just before that Craigslist serial killer started going around - but even before that I got some weird sketchy people. I feel safer having the pizza man come to my door than a random Craigslist buyer, lol

Neighbor

My neighbor had a crown Vic with the spotlight on it. He now has a charger with a spotlight on it. They both were police cars to boot.
He buys cars at auctions and resales them. The 12 passenger public transit buses they bought a year ago. The ones used for handicap individuals and government owned. He bought a few and made them into camping buses. I laughed until he told me he was in in less than 5k and sold it for 15k. The joke was on me. He drives the police cars as daily drivers. I still get spooked thinking wtf is a cop next door for.
Growing up my friend had a 96 crown Vic. He put an alarm with flashing red and blue light on it. It was really good at getting girls to pull over. He would walk up with a flashlight and say have you girls been drinking. He only did it a few times until he got impersonating a police officer ticket. We cruised main and my friend and I drive in either a 74 firebird or his 85 bronco Eddie Bauer edition with it's top off.
I have a radar detector and on the freeway look out for cars that look like cops.
Long post

My time spent as a truck driver, you get very good at spotting a Crown Vic, or a ford Taurus/Explorer a mile away while doing 70mph...

Did you know if they are radaring and your speeding opposite side of cop next to a semi it defaults and gives an error. I was young and driving on freeway. I seen a cop a good ways ahead. They pulled over a car. I made sure I was next to a semi. I hauled going atleast 20 over by them on purpose. I slid in front of the semi and he got into the lane I was in and I moved to lane closest to where the cop was originally. He flew past with his lights on.

The radar goes for the largest vehicle. Newer speed detection systems they use are laser, which can be directed at specific vehicles without 'pulling' to the larger one, and are not detectable with a radar detecter.

What you said. It's 20-30 foot long 12-20 wheels and much heavier. I know he wasn't using radar gun.

Here's another way to look at it. You may have dodged o

Maybe his intentions were less than honorable, and seeing the Police tag made him think twice about what he was fixing to do.

There have been numerous stories in the news where someone met up a buyer in the parking lot, convenience store etc and was robbed of not only the merchandise, but their money and in some cases made them go to an ATM and make a withdraw.

He might have been gun shy, or had a gun.

Idk

lesinutah's profile picture
He was texting the person. That means the phone could be traced. If I were to rob somewhere I wouldn't do it by selling or picking up vacuums communicating via a phone.
I would never do it but nevery you guys are probably right. Not everybody is talented in the brains department.

The interesting thing is...

The crown vics and the Grand Marquis models that were not police cars are popular with a certain crowd .....that typically are into drug dealing or little old ladies. A friend of mine had his Grandmother’s and the police were constantly scrutinizing him because of what he drove...he was with his wife and baby. One cop told him it’s weird you have this car, usually we find the only people with them are drug dealer crowd in the ghetto or little old ladies.
