After moving a few months ago to a larger house in the same city, but a different neighborhood, I observed something strange yesterday:

Right across the street, I have a neighbor who tends to do woodwork. I was just going to get the mail, and his garage was open. I peeked in there, and he owns a Dyson DC07 Animal, EXACTLY like what I have! However, I don't really talk to my neighbors. But I still thought this was a really strange coincidence.

This is nothing new for me; a few years ago, at my old house, a different neighbor, a few houses down, had a Bissell Lift-Off Deep Cleaner in blue, just like mine!

What are the odds of seeing your neighbors owning the same vacuum(s) as you do?

My mom told my dad she wanted a Kirby well she got it along with some of the other housewives that came over to see the demonstration. Not too long after that the Electrolux man showed up & told him who all bought new Kirby's and pointed to the homes that might buy new ones. Moving forward into the future my friend had a Rainbow D4SE and so did everyone else in his sub division, they came with the new house.

There is one that I know of that comes in mind. Back in 1989, we had a contractor who not only built our house but also the one next to us. And so when they were finishing up a year later, both houses had a Beam 287S central vacuum unit put in. I'm not exactly sure if the house next door to us had the same attachments that we first received with ours because I've never seen their kit before but I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Last time that I saw their unit in the garage which was a while ago, it was unplugged for some odd reason. Probably because their motor had burnt out. But we're still using ours today and it's got it's original motor replaced. I'm actually thinking about replacing the Rugmaster Plus powerhead but I haven't decided yet if I'm going to anytime soon or not.

When we first moved here in 1984, we had a Kirby Classic III, and my next-door neighbor had a Kirby Tradition.

A family across the street (with two daughters, who were both friends with my sister) from my old house had a Kirby Sentria. And another friend of my sister's, at a cul-de-sac across from the old place, also owned a Kirby Sentria! I just remembered that from the mid-to-late 2000s. However, I've never had a Kirby salesman come to my door.

We had a blue Electrolux model L, one of the neighbors up the street had one too, I was over there babysitting the kids once and saw it out, the Mom said she had it out ready for the housekeeper coming the next day.

One of the neighbors on the street behind us had one too...I discovered as she was one of my paper route customers and then asked me to feed her cats while on vacation. I cleaned up the house a bit before she returned and she had the same vacuum.

In both instances the hoses and power nozzles were slightly later generations than ours but often those parts were sometimes different per the year or replaced as the units got older.

My Grandmother (Mom’s side) had a blue Model L just like my Mom’s too it was nearly identical but had the optional cordwinder.

It’s not uncommon to find the same or similar model here and there.

I remember seeing alot of Hoover Dial-A-Matics around the neighborhood growing up, and sadly many at the curb as the years went on. Occasionally, I'd see the then-new Concept One and in the early '90's I saw a TON of Hoover Elites. I worked at Woolworth's in the late '90's and I remember the Elite 200 priced at $69.99 and on sale at $59.99. Attachments extra of course.
