The N95 type mask is the only mask that can filter out virus particles. No other mask will. The only reason they are saying not to buy it unless you are a doctor is to keep people from hoarding them, because they only have a lifespan of a day, and you cannot reuse them.
Buying and using a mask at all is totally stupid and nonsense anyway, because the virus spreads through your mucous membranes - which means your eyes too, not just your nose and mouth. You would have to wear sealed swimming or construction goggles too which would make you look pretty ridiculous. Also, no - a gas mask will in no way at all stop the corona virus because they are meant to filter pollution particulates and chemical irritants - not a flu virus. Making your own mask with a HEPA filter (come on, really?) is a big no-no and a fool's errand done by people who do not understand the flu virus or how masks work. It is for large household dust particles - not viruses. The best thing to do is use sanitizer before and after leaving the store, use the wipes in the store to sanitize the cart handles. Do not touch your face. When you get home, wash your hands with hot water and dish soap. That's all you can do. I have been out to over a dozen stores this month, I don't use any masks or gloves, and not gotten sick at all. |

www.fda.gov/medical-devic...
"The 'N95' designation means that when subjected to careful testing, the respirator blocks at least 95 percent of very small (0.3 micron) test particles. If properly fitted, the filtration capabilities of N95 respirators exceed those of face masks. However, even a properly fitted N95 respirator does not completely eliminate the risk of illness or death." www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2... "CDC does not recommend the routine use of respirators outside of workplace settings (in the community). Most often, spread of respiratory viruses from person-to-person happens among close contacts (within 6 feet). CDC recommends everyday preventive actions to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, such as avoiding people who are sick, avoiding touching your eyes or nose, and covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue. People who are sick should stay home and not go into crowded public places or visit people in hospitals. Workers who are sick should follow CDC guidelines and stay home when they are sick." Best common mask I can find that's far better than the typical N95 mask: 3M 9332 (Rated FFP3) and tested to 99.6% removal of particles FAR smaller than 0.3 microns. This mask is sometimes referred to as N99. smartairfilters.com/en/blog/do-p... |

@ABCVacPlacentia The CDC has trying to keep people from panic buying masks so their first responders have enough ,but really everybody should have then own.
It's time to get over the social stigma about wearing masks in public. I do disclose what type of filtration those masks are. P-100 on the 3m. P3 & CBRN NATO filter cartridge . @huskyvacs As stated in the video briefly ,I am not recommending charcoal only filters. CBRN and p3 filters are designed to handle viruses and other really fine particulate. @vaclab Bill if you lived in an actual City you would have it already. I know you would be in intensive care with your underlying health conditions. Please don't repeat the government propaganda. |

You are a conspiracy theorist and believe that the government is out to to get you. This isn't China. You really believe that the CDC and the FDA are lying and any info not approved by you, an uneducated high school graduate (did you even graduate?) must be false.
"@vaclab Bill if you lived in an actual City you would have it already. I know you would be in intensive care with your underlying health conditions. Please don't repeat the government propaganda." Can anyone say "pathological liar?" And this isn't the first time either. Your statement is not only completely false, wishing ANYONE physical harm/death should get you BANNED from this website. You are the worst offender that spreads nothing but intentional toxicity on as many posts as possible. Again, any thought/opinion other than yours is simply not to be tolerated. Don't even get me started on "Working Water Lift"... Some people may already know this but I started my YouTube channel because of the massive misinformation/outright lies I saw on two other channels. Performance Tests and Vacuum Facts (JohnnyL8). Moderator: Normally I would never respond to anyone in this manner, but Alex has crossed the line far too many times twisting Vacuumland into something intentionally disgusting and unpleasant. Bill |

Viruses are not 'particles.' They transmit through the air by being attached to particles, such as dust, water droplets, etc. When someone coughs and spews millions of microscopic virus-laden snot water droplets into the air, they float around in the air for several minutes or more for other people to breathe in. Guess what? Screw the CDC, I'd rather wear a mask that *might* protect me as opposed to just breathing in sick people air.
Too late for me, anyway :P |

@vaclab bill you have never taken the time to get to know me or anybody else.
I do not subscribe to any conspiracy theories to clarify. I also have a full education to clarify. I don't know why that would be in question? I do not personally insult you I try to stay far away from you and your toxicity. Once again you have turned something into some sort of argument about your ego. I'm simply stating that I wish you to be careful since you're in a high-risk category. Both older and overweight. I really resent the continued accusation of you calling me a liar. Vacuum Facts aka JohnnyL8 has been discussed about is Dyson fandom misleading people plenty of times on here and elsewhere I don't think that's subject needs be revisited. I'm sorry that this bickering must continue why don't you man up and just send me an email/dm I've even offered to debate you in a live stream. Please stop submitting vacuum land to your nastiness. |

Please guys no need to get nasty with each other, Alex what you said about "living in a actual city" was totally out of line and uncalled for.
Please we're all under a lot of stress right now with this disaster and the last thing we need any of that here. Be nice please, it's more important now more than ever. |

@vacfan1982 I didn't he took what I said out of context.
What I said was if he followed his own advice he would contracted it, if he lived in a more populated area. That I mentioned he was in the group most at risk right now. He lives in a town that's extremely small 18k according to the last census. that will be one of the last places affected. But that one right over a couple people's heads. my point is if everybody wears protective gear the faster this thing goes away. |

I would have taken it to mean that if my name were there instead of vaclabs. Irrespective, he hardly addressed any of what has been said. |

Masks mostly help us not to spread virus to others. They do help slightly to keep us from getting it. But if all are wearing masks, all the better. Here is a chart published by my hometown (Memphis) regarding the use of masks -- why and how they are helpful. CLICK HERE TO GO TO frkirby560's LINK

I live in a city with 120,000 people and have never worn a mask and have never been sick. I wash my hands before and after leaving a store, and wash my face and hands again when I get home. That's all I've done. I've probably been out to 25 stores in the past month and a half, some for 15 mins, some for an hour and a half. Never been sick.
The people getting sick and dying from the virus are already susceptible to it from a weak immune system due to their diet (vegans) or their genetic disposition passed down through their family. The virus is more harmful in large cities where pollution is a factor and people breathe in pollution constantly which tears down their immune system. Smokers, drug users, etc all have weak immune and respiratory systems so they will get affected by it sooner. If you are over 60 you have the greatest risk of contracting the virus. Anyone between 12 and 30 has a very very small risk rate of contracting it unless they have the above mentioned problems. Just practice basic common sense hygiene and you will be fine. I only had to buy a mask because of stupid stores putting ARMED GUARDS at their entrances to prevent people from coming in without a mask. And I am not waiting until July to get stuff done while my house falls apart (as well as my hair which hasn't been cut since September). |

@vacfan1982 "A 13 year old died in the UK"
You sure about that? Maybe it was Portugal. Or Belgium. Check the link below... It's fake news, there is SO much fake news. This virus is highly contagious, but it otherwise not that bad. It's just a nasty flu. The flu kills 30k Americans every year, and of those, most are old folks in nursing homes and sick people. CLICK HERE TO GO TO MadMan's LINK |

Very informative and insightful article in ATLANTIC about the long term effects -- even if you never had symptoms of the disease. The danger is not just about who dies from it. We can't be cavalier about this illness. CLICK HERE TO GO TO frkirby560's LINK |
