I know it’s been mentioned previously in a thread here but could anyone tell me how to determine the date of manufacturing from serial numbers?I have an Electrolux central vac I’d like to know when it was made. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Can we get pictures of the whole unit and the accessories? I think yours might be from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s.

If it says « Electrolux »

Since it says Electrolux out of Bristol, Virginia then it’s the US Electrolux product and is pre 2003 when the Electrolux name was changed to Aerus. That much I can tell you from the picture you provided so far.

The US Electrolux brand name was bought by the European Electrolux company when Eureka owned it and wanted to sell their vacuums here in the US. Since they were the original company and the US company spawned off of them back in the 1930s they became two separate companies over time developing their products differently. But when Eureka wanted to sell their Electrolux brand product here they bought the US companies name to avoid confusion of two different products by the same name and different companies and the US companies name was changed to Aerus,LLC. Officially in 2003. The European Electrolux not only sold canisters and uprights here in the US, but also central systems and they still sell refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers, washers, and dryers here in the US but have left the US vacuum cleaner market in the last few years, but you don’t have their product.

Anyway, I provide this information to you so that you understand that while vacuum cleaning products by the name of Electrolux are no longer sold in the US at this time by either company, the product you have is actually still sold and serviced by the same company, but with a new name on it so that you know it’s not a discontinued or defunct company or product. Just know that you have an « Aerus Electrolux » product and all needs for it can be addressed by Aerus. They still support the product you have and manufacture it and it’s parts.

I don’t believe the product has changed much so if you are needing a manual, you can go to Www.aerushome.com and lookup the manuals and it should be very close in design to the Aerus centralux which is the current name.

You should Know that the unit has a foam filter inside that should be cleaned periodically so if you are experiencing poor suction this may be a cause. There are no bags to change, just dump the canister periodically and wash the filter, allow to dry, then put it back together and it should work like new.

Your local Aerus dealer will be able to service the product if needed or get you any replacement parts or attachments or you may wish to inquire about additional accessories available which you may not already have. My Sister has one of these in her home and since it’s three story, chose to buy an extra hose and tools for the second level and the Aerus store was very helpful.

Additional photos of everything that came with the system may help us to better give you a date range on the product as accessories changed design and colors over the years. But ultimately, your local Aerus Electrolux dealer probably installed it and can give you the « in service » date. I’m guessing this was already in a home you’ve purchased.

Hope all of this helps, Jon

These units, the first from American Electrolux were manufactured in 1986-1990. I sold and serviced many of these in the Seattle area. Wish they'd kept the paper pleated on later units! But didn't last long! BOO HOO! G

Just noticed you are in Canada

Sorry, I just noticed you are in Canada...anyway the story is still pretty much the same, contact an Aerus dealer and they should be able to give you the exact in service date of the unit with the serial number...it doesn’t look as if it’s too old to be beyond their record keeping. You may be able to use the contact us button on the home page of the Aerushome site to contact the corporate office in Dallas, TX...not sure if they have the records there but surely either they or a branch franchise near you will likely have it.

Electrolux in Canada was spawned off on its own like the US products was too for a while and made different products but in the mid 1980s the two came together to become one again I believe.

More info

Here’s a link from ezvacuum.com showing Electrolux products by BOTH companies There is some overlap in the mid 2000s as whoever put this together shows only “Electrolux” branded products and you can clearly see the difference in the Electrolux products from 2006 on do not resemble the older products. IF you look at the Aerushome vacuum page you’ll see their Classic Lux and Lux Legacy models look similar to the early 2000 models except for the color has changed for the most part as they change the coloring every so often.

Anyway, the chart shows your model 1590 and the date range of it. Central vacuums are far down,

Jon
