I'm surprised no one has brought this up yet. In my state of Oklahoma only three people have tested positive. My college extended spring break for a week and cancelled classes. Events are being cancelled, people are going crazy and hoarding toilet paper. Thankfully, I have enough however I'm still afraid to walk into a store and see the isle empty.

I'm not afraid of getting it myself if that were to happen.  I'm healthy and recover quickly from colds and the flu. I'm concerned about getting COVID-19 and spreading it to people who are older such as my grandparents .  I'm also concerned about the viruses overall impact on the economy.

I hope people are taking personal responsibility for themselves and staying home if sick and not spreading it to people who have compromised immune systems. This virus could be fatal to them.

Any other thoughts? I plan on traveling soon and taking a bottle mixed with bleach and water since I'm assuming I can't buy disinfectant in the store and wiping down all surfaces in my hotel room. The virus can live on plastic for days. Not to a foreign country just a neighboring state.

The world is going crazy. The photo below is of the toilet paper aisle at Ralph's at 10 PM last night. You'll notice a lot of yellow sale tags at the edge of the empty shelves. Now I gotta ask you... what is the point in putting something on sale that people are hoarding???

All the eggs were gone. All the milk was gone. Most of the canned and frozen goods were gone. Most of the bread was gone.

This is insanity.

Our college had to have "no students

I'm careful (not stupid or reckless). But, I'm also NOT going to live in fear. AT ALL. including going on preparing for the convention in GA in JUNE.

I don't understand why people are hoarding at all. The virus is respiratory and not in the stomach so no one is going to get the shits and need rolls of toilet paper. People are crazy and a lot of it is brought on by the government and news media.

There are some kind souls among us. When this all started and there was no hand sanitizer to be had, I went to Walgreens for some 90-proof isopropyl alcohol and aloe vera gel to make my own. There was =no= alcohol on the shelf of any strength. I mentioned this to one of the employees there. He said "Wait here a second." He disappeared into the back and returned with a large bottle of 90X alcohol for me. He said, "This is from my private stash." I thanked him and said, "You're a very decent person."

@countryguy LOL! Good one! I will say, though, that some people will have stomach problems with the virus, so the trots are not off the table. That being said, I still don't really get why people are hoarding TP. Or water for that matter. Food, I totally understand.

Virus

Yes,there is a problem that requires us to continue reasonable caution as in previous years and flu seasons.
But now people may get sick!People may die!!What should we do?!?What would our president and the millions who are very, very, deeply concerned with our health do if they found out that CIGARETTES CAUSE CANCER?!?!?!
Small world--I know 2 local people on the quarantined Japanese cruise ship. Both well and home. When I walked to the local grocery store last night I found 98% toilet paper GONE and joined in the hoarding by getting 2 packages.

Our Wal-Mart has a sign at the customer service counter stating they will NOT be accepting returns of toilet paper. When this is all over, I guess people will try to return the half a garage full of TP they spent hundreds of dollars on. Wal-Mart says NO.

Toilet paper and now other items

It’s a snowball effect. Two weeks ago we used up the last of our bulk pack 30 rolls of toilet paper, so I bought a new one...should last the 2 of us for another 15 weeks as we use about 2 rolls a week. But then the nuts started hoarding it so we said well, what if we use up ours and there’s no more in 15 weeks, I guess we should get some now. So we bought two more bulk packs. We can share it with our niece as she has kids and is usually strapped for cash so she wouldn’t have money to « stock up and hoard » so at least we have some for her if she runs out soon and can’t find any if people are still hoarding it. I did buy 4 bottles of rubbing alcohol to use with paper towels to make sanitizing wipes if needed. 4 would be plenty I figured. Now people are hoarding food and why? Do they think we are going to have no food or something or that tons of sick people will be shopping in the food stores? It is a bit crazy. At first I wasn’t going to bother getting the extra toilet paper but when we saw it sold out and did come across a store that had it we figured, well, just get it to be on the safe side and we can share it if needed. So the hoarding by others created a snowball effect, We bought more that we didn’t need now out of fear since we were suddenly seeing the shelves empty. Though by the time we will need it, likely the stores will have all restocked as the hoarding phase will be over.

But this greedy over hoarding is bad for people who don’t have the money to stock up on things as now, they won’t be able to get the things they usually get once a week as tit will be sold out sitting in the hoarders fridges, spare shelves, and garages. This is why we figured we would share the extra toilet paper if needed. We could afford to buy the bulk packs when our niece can’t as she rents from us and can barely afford to get us the rent but we know she tries hard

It is disgusting that there are a few 'entrepreneurs' (and I use the term loosely) that are buying up all the toilet paper, paper towels, sanitizer, etc. and then selling it on amazon, etc. at several times the original price. They are trying to make money off this situation. I bet they aren't reporting their income to the CRA or IRS though.

The hoarding is disgusting

I went down to the local supermarket last night to buy three items. I couldn't believe what I saw. Every register had a line of people with over flowing carts that extended to the back of the store. As I walked down an aisle my jaw dropped and I was shaking my head in dis-belief. I got the last lb. of butter and one of three remaining gallons of milk. All canned tuna was gone, all top ramen noodles gone. Bread gone. I needed a can of kidney beans, and this guy was pulling every can of beans off the shelf into his cart. I went over and said could I get just one can of the kidneys please and he begrudgingly handed me one can without looking at me, just said "here".As far as running out of toilet paper to do the paper work, I can just go back to what mom used on us with dirty diapers,WASH CLOTHS! If you have the trots the clean up is better anyway with wash cloths than t.p.

It is a snowball effect. I wanna know why people are stupid enough to be hoarding easily perishable food like milk and eggs. What the hell are they thinking? I better have a fridge full of milk to last me the whole year! It doesn't work that way! Milk goes bad in a month. People are stupid.

Like, canned food is totally understandable. If it's the apocalypse, you'll have food for years and years. Toilet paper, too... I guess. Priorities, amiright? Whatever.

Anyhow, I'm a little bit germophobic and this situation is making it worse. I wanted to get some hand sanitizer but naturally there's none to be had. So I made my own with alcohol and a bit of glycerin. And hey, there's no alcohol either.

That's the thing. People are taking on an apocalyptic mindset. It's gonna get weirder before it gets better.

The college where I teach has spent the whole weekend issuing contradictory statements. At first, everything was going to be on a normal schedule this coming week and then shut down the following week. The logic, if you want to call it that, is it would give faculty time to prepare to transition from classroom to online instruction. WTF? I don't need a week to do that. I can move my classes online in a couple of hours.

Then last night, after the governor ordered all K-12 schools shut down for the next two weeks, they reconsidered and suspended all classroom instruction, effective immediately, except faculty and staff still need to report to work. Like there's actually anything I can do in my office under theses circumstances that I can't do just as effectively--and more safely--from home? As a diabetic, I do fall into a 'high risk' category, so I can seek an alternative arrangement from HR, which I may well do when I get to work in the morning.

But I'm still not hoarding toilet paper!

Generally, I buy t.p., paper towels, bleach, laundry detergent, etc. about twice a year.. I looked in both bathrooms and the linen closet. I'm fine.

(this was to clear up space AND for my aunt to not cook much)... I just made: stuffed shells, 41 meatballs, 2 kinds of lasagna, etc. to "have" and to free up space in my kitchen. At times, if I get free time, I go on cooking jags, lolol.

I'm not going to live in fear. All schools are closed, our diocese "relieved anyone from the obligation of Mass". We must be careful, not reckless OR just plain stupid.

We're closed for the rest of the month (schools, some businesses, etc.). We're ok as far as food (and still have TP to spare!). We don't need much. I feel that we MIGHT be over exaggerating a bit. Yes, I know there are ever-increasing cases and some have died, but statistically this is nowhere NEAR the high numbers that Influenza kills off in a year. Just saying, it's pretty stupid how a lot of people are acting.

The situation is the same here in the UK. I went into ASDA on my way to work this morning as I always do on a Monday to get milk and biscuits for the office where I work. Usually there are about 10 cars in the car park and at that time in the morning only the self scan checkouts are open. 7:15 and the car park was 3/4's full. A queue of over 20 people waiting to self scan and a few manned tills open. Empty shelves of pasta, loo roll, tinned tomatoes and veg, tea, of course no soap or sanitiser that disappeared weeks ago. Guy in front of me buying 5 packs of spaghetti and paracetamol. It was an uneasy feeling being in there surrounded by these crazy selfish shoppers. Having said that the roads seem quieter so think more people are working from home than before. Can't see it getting any better anytime soon. I bet the Supermarket accountants are loving it!!

Okay, so I've been sitting here in my office all day, waiting to hear from HR about my request to work from home, and have gotten absolutely no response. Kinda frustrating, since there's nothing I can do here that I can't do at home, except for occupying this particular space. Kinda frustrating. If I were more paranoid, I could delude myself into believing they're intentionally ignoring my request.

Shortly after writing the above post, I finally got through to HR and they told me they were putting my name on the list. The whole time, I got the impression they thought I was already working from home and weren't terribly concerned whether I was at home or at my office. Afterward, I e-mailed my supervisor, related the gist the conversation and told her I'd be working form home, pending further word from HR. She was totally supportive and probably relieved that someone had taken a decisive action today.

I mean, in the past, I've watched some truther videos of people warning us about such a thing........most people (including me) thought something could happen, but I generally shrugged it off thinking that the world is supposedly ending for decades now....and nothing ever happens. Well, no one is laughing at them now. I'm not sure what to think because no one I know knows anyone who is sick or even been tested for this. They are going to start putting armed guards at the hospitals. It's total Twilight Zone. I keep hoping this will blow over and all will be back to normal but so much damage is being done each day.

whatever you do, don't go down some of the rabbit holes I went down on Bitchute...there are some CRAZY theories out there!

About hoarding perishable food. Yeah! Isn't that stupid? That's why we only buy non-perishable things at Costco like toilet paper, detergent, shampoo ,razors...things like that.

This is not like common flu

Everyone needs to be cautious of this virus old and young. The UK has become a different place in a space of 10 days. Birmingham has become a ghost town. Its like nothing we've ever experienced before. Stay safe, avoid contact and cross your fingers you don't get it. Can you imagine not giving your Mom a hug on Mothers Day, Instead having a conversation through a closed window and leaving a card and flowers at the doorstep. Well that's what happened last Sunday. If I am a carrier of it? I don't know yet, then I would never forgive myself if I passed it onto my parents. This is not like the common flu. Avoid getting it so you don't spread it to others and infect them.

It is way to close to home now. We have a confirmed exposure here in Bridgman Michigan where I live. Keeping in mind that exposure doesn't mean that the person actually has it. They were just in a distance of another person that is either a carrier or has it. I have not heard anymore since this broke two hours ago. With that being said. I have done everything I need to do. I am well stocked up with groceries. I have everything I need for work. I have TV, Internet, books and plenty of housework and unpacking to do. I have kept myself within only certain people who pose no risk and nobody else.

It took being here in Michigan before my mom finally got serious about this. My younger sister Tara who works in a nursing home told my mom she needs to get serious. Berrien County has had to declare a State of Emergency.

I was working on a project with my boss for reopening the restaurant. I wanted to do some research and have some kind of date before I submitted my thoughts. With in a one hour driving distance radios there are 44 confirmed cases. This is Berrien County and Van Buren County Michigan. This includes Saint Joseph County, LaPorte County, Lake/Porter County Indiana. I don't know what to think. Would this seem like a lot? Or is this a small number? Chicago is only a hour and half two hours from here. They have just over 1,500 cases. I was okay with the 44 cases, really uneasy having one right here in the same town I live in. But knowing the number in Chicago regardless of the fact that Chicago is shut down is just scary now.

The strange thing is that I am more concerned and scared for my boss. I'm scared about watching all the hard work she has done for the last year going down the drain. I am so afraid of watching something I have worked so hard to help create go down the drain. That would just be completely devastating.

How is everyone else doing?

Andy

College Student Here

We had an extra week of spring break and all classes will be online once break ends. There are many arguments going around whether University Of Illinois should refund tuition or just give everyone passing grades for this semester.

The community college where I teach is completely online for the remainder of the semester and campuses are being locked down as of 5:00 p.m. today. No word yet regarding the summer session, although I strongly suspect that will be online as well. No tuition refunds or automatic passing grades. I'm sure I'll be giving F's to quite a few students who have let their coursework go since the campuses were closed. Many mistakenly think they're on vacation. Graduation fees have been waived for students earning their degrees this spring and summer since commencement exercises have been canceled. No word as to whether or when it will be rescheduled. Meanwhile, there is nothing to be done except hunker in the proverbial bunker and move forward as best we can.

my two cents

I will be working from home for the next few weeks, I don't mind doing that, it means I can sleep in a bit later. In some ways I like it better because I don't have to hear all of the other conversations like I do when I'm at work. I think when this is all said and done, the panic that people had from this will have caused more problems than the virus itself. Ten years ago, the H1N1 flu killed more people tthan this.
The most I stock up on is maybe a few weeks worth of items which is what I would do anyway. Buying months and months worth of toilet paper and other items is just pointless. I agree that a lot of this panic is caused by the government and the media.
Here's the biggest thing that concerns me. We have state governors and local mayors issuing orders that nonessential people must stay at home and that businesses and eating establishments must close. Ok, so who determines what is essential and nonessential? The government? This is the kind of thing that happens in communist countries. Anyone who is concerned about our liberties and freedom should be very concerned about this. When this is over, can the government tell businesses they must close for other reasons? In my opinion this is going too far and many small businesses will be destroyed because of it. This is one of many examples of how the government is abusing its power. And now we have passed the largest spending bill in history to help these businesses because the government ordered them to close. Very flawed logic in my view.
Mike

Pretty sure I've got it.

Been sick as a dog the past two and a half days. Feeling better today, no fever, good appetite. I had all the symptoms: fever, dry cough, shortness of breath, aches, discomfort. My mom and dad and one sister have it as well. Strangely, my sister that does NOT have it, is the one who's a nurse in a hospital dealing with infected people!

My dad had a fever on tuesday, but he was fine the next day. Then I stated coming down with a fever thursday night. Saturday, my dad started getting sick again, now on sunday he's got a fever again, but everyone else is doing better. Dunno what's that about.

My dad tried to get tested today, but they ran out of tests like as soon as they opened. He's gonna try to go super early tomorrow morning.

'This is not the flu' Well here's my thinking on that. What I had is pretty much just the flu... but much more annoying and more contagious. I was pondering the situation in my feverish delirium, and it occurred to me that under these strict quarantine and lockdown conditions... a strong strain of the virus would infect a couple people and then they'd get isolated. Whereas a weak strain might give someone the sniffles and it wouldn't be taken as seriously, and therefore would have more opportunity to be communicated to other people. With that logic, it makes sense why I got off pretty easy.

As for all these lockdowns and such... yeah it's ruining US. But yeah it's necessary. But also, yeah, it needs to end. Soon. There is a point where we won't be able to bounce back from this.

I also worry about the vac shops and other small businesses. If this continues much longer, small businesses may close en masse, leading to complete economic collapse of the small towns here in Kentucky that depend on small businesses. If those small businesses close, the town won't be able to collect taxes, which will lead to slashed budgets and urban decay. People will lose their jobs, leading to mass bankruptcy. Those same people won't be able to stimulate the local economy because they are broke. As a result, no one will want to open up a business in that town. If there are no stores left and no new stores opening, people are going to leave for a more prosperous town. Something similar happened several coal mining towns in Kentucky when the coal supply was depleted. Jobs were lost, stores were closed, and now those towns sit vacant. It's a vicious cycle that could completely destroy Kentucky. There are tens of thousands of hardworking people in this state who are at risk of losing it all. If this doesn't end soon, Kentucky and many other states will end up like this. Granted, it is an extreme example, but one that is entirely plausible. Also, I'm bored, and have run out of vacuums to tinker around with.

do is boast our immune systems. By eating the right foods, exercising and taking vitamin B and other supplements.

It is my theory that people who have gotten sick or worse have had compromised immune systems to start out with. Our food supply is basically garbage with all the fast foods, etc. All of this combined with the CDC guidelines such as washing your hands should help us prevent death. Just my opinion.

We have been staying home and running our Rainbow with the green germicide in the water to wash the air. It runs 24/7 on low speed. We stocked up on groceries to last a month. Funny, I don't miss eating out at all. One good thing that has come out of staying home is I get to make a lot of unusual meals that I normally don't, either out of time concerns or unfamiliarity with new ingredients. I've been reading my Martha, Ina, and Julia cookbooks for inspiration. My dishwasher runs at least two loads a day now.

Hope you all stay safe, and when your check gets here, don't give it to Christina. I should have known she would know where to find the boys, and the booze.

Yeah David you totally had it. That's like a textbook case. If you're not coughing anymore, then you're over it and shouldn't be contagious anymore. :)

Thanks! Glad to hear you say that too. My neighbor was sure at the time, I said got it from where? I really am a stay-at-home take long walks outside clean freakbut I find out afterwards that they almost son was sick a week before and he felt he had it, and a friends with benefits of mine was sick with the same symptoms 3 days before me so I assume one of them. Again I think that makes me pretty safe now which is great. 👍😁

I guess what had me wondering? Was that I have no lung issues, of course I walk several miles a day and I've never had any bad habits and my blood oxygen level is normally about 98 or 99% maybe all those strong lung tissue and diaphragm kept me from having trouble

I was watching a video with this German doctor talking about Corona, and he made a lot of sense. He was saying the places with the most serious cases and high fatalities are places with terrible air pollution. Consider the worst places now: Northern Italy (they also smoke too much and like to hug), New York City, Los Angeles, and Wuhan. All severely polluted places. In other words, all those people have lung damage already.

I was originally thinking I had a weak strain of the virus, but now I'm beginning to think that it's really not that bad at all, but it does attack the lungs, and if you have any kind of lung problems, you're screwed.

Also, my sister's Corona test came back positive so that means that me and my whole household has had it for sure.

I got hit with something nasty back in early February but I didn't have really any of the symptoms and nobody else caught it. Mostly I just felt bad with aches on a Friday night and it lasted the weekend and started going away by the Monday after. Fever, nausea, weakness getting up and down, no appetite, etc. No respiratory issues.

Still it was strange, because I rarely get sick anymore to that extent.

Also right around then my grandfather got very ill and started falling multiple times and passed away in February late. Hearing about the Coronavirus made me wonder if it was related at first but I think it was something else, likely just natural causes since he was in his 90s.

I did worry this week because I heard a case spread in Georgia from a funeral. We had the funeral in early March which was right when the virus was starting to come in and with people coming from different parts of the state and other states I worried we may have contracted something but it didn't seem to be the case and you'd think we would've had symptoms by a month later.

One has been hospitalized with Covid-19.

The other had to lay off 600 people, including himself.

That everyone who was laid off will get called back in. We will need those workers back after this is over.
A former adviser to Obama said it may be 18 months(a year and a half). Hopefully that theory is not realistic. Hopefully we can go back to work by practicing social distancing sooner. Then I hear it’s going to be two months or so. The sooner the better!

On the positive side there may be a pent up demand due to donations. Hopefully after this the thrift stores will have some nice vintage vacs!

I got laid off in January but not officially until last month when I got the paperwork which was fine because HR called to let me know that someone in my department tested positive which I told them I wasn't around anyone or even there since I hadn't been there since Jan. They had no idea I wasn't still there and also I was all clear. My neighbors have been great giving me extra work and I'm actually making more working for all them then when I was putting in a full 40hr week. I volunteer with Habitat For Humanity and they have a back load of pickups so I know there will be plenty of things also the same thing for garage/estate sales too.

My little town is feeling the impact. The P66 Refinery sent all their contractors home and the Solvay plant I work at is furloughing most of everyone for a few months, unfortunately I’ll be one of the ones cut since they are going to only keep 1-2 people in each maintenance craft and I’m the lowest seniority in I&E. A lot of the mom and pop stores have been impacted so bad that I’m a lot of them may not reopen. I’ve planned ahead and myself and my family will be okay, but I know this is going to hurt my town’s economy since it’s mostly driven by Oil and the Auto industry demands. I hope everyone is okay during these times and I want everyone to stay safe and take precautions and maybe we can ride this out together.

Last weekend my wife found out one of her employees got it. I woke up Monday having fever, sore throat body aches and headaches. Me and my wife had to get tested since her employees has it. I had to get tested because of my wife and the jobsite I'm at if I tested positive it would shut down the whole jobsite. That's over 100 workers.
I got tested and no covid for me or my wife. My wife there quarantined all of n3xt week as 2 more people have it.
You ccn boost your immune system but if some dirty bird gets in your space your getting it.
I sat home for 3 days and I'm going nuts.
I started my classes up again and we're using Google meeting and doing class over that. We will finish in 3 weeks. I'm just glad to pass the class.
I told my wife the disease came from a bird or a bat. That's why I'm petrified of birds and bats. It didn't help the guinea pig bats went rogue and we're all paying the price. I think china should be held responsible for every death. They get low to no tax on foreign goods and control our economy with loans. I say okay china we have no defecit .
They are killing people and our economy is taking a dump get Putin and trump and get warships and ask china if there up for negotiations.
The above mentioned won't happen quite like I hope. You better believe china is going to pay the pied Piper. Every country holds them accountable there going to comply. It's the moral thing to do with honor.
Sorry on the rant sitting home all day is boring.
Stay bright stay alive and be positive.

I'm surprised you tested negative, those symptoms sound similar. Odd chance that you caught the regular flu, I guess. Did you or your missus lose sense of taste and smell? That's a bigger giveaway.

The virus is more or less man made. When it first came out, scientists were talking about how it had genetic markers of HIV, which would not occur naturally. Of course, that information is now being suppressed. Wherever it came from originally (the States, btw), it escaped from a virology lab in Wuhan. On purpose or by accident is another question. The bat soup is just a silly meme. Although it is likely the wet market in Wuhan (a stone's throw from the virology lab) had something to do with it. Test animals, perhaps?

Fortunately, the virus is nowhere near as bad as THE MAN would have us believe. We're far enough in it by now that we have enough numbers. The mortality rate is at or below 1%. The reason there are so many dead is simply because it's so contagious that many more people have had it, than people have had the flu (which incidentally kills 30,000 Americans yearly). It's all about numbers. If you throw out the number 70,000 dead, it sounds like a plague. But that's less than 0.3% of the population.

Is it bad? Yes, it's bad. Do we need to continue to destroy our country and its people's livelihoods?

The loss of taste no. The loss of smell idk I had allergies I couldn't tell. Thinking you may have it makes you imagine things are worse than they are.
We are both negative. She gets another week off as I think out of 12 workers 6 have it. I'm just glad she doesn't.
I think it's funny the face masks are required. Yet we went fishing at a small park at a pond nearby. There was three sets of kids 8 total kids in 2 hours pass by us. There was not an adult within 300 feet of them. I only seen one parent. The kids didn't have any PPE on. People are scared if you look at them and while others don't care.
I just wish the virus was done. It will in time.

What's so scary about this virus to me is you really don't know what the outcome will be if you get it. Healthy young people sometimes die from it, yet there are people in their 90s and even over 100 that have survived it.

I think the death rate could be as high as 5.5%. I'm hearing all kinds of numbers. I don't think we'll ever really know the death rate unless we could say for sure how many people had it with no symptoms or recovered and never were tested.

I heard this year was a particularly bad flu season apart form the virus. Back in January the week of the Super Bowl I got very sick on a Friday. Just very weak, stuck in bed or in a recliner all day Saturday and Sunday and started feeling better Monday. Also kept waking up with sore throat.

Then a few weeks ago I thought I was getting sick again. Fever all day, achy, headache very tired. But it couldn't have been because I went to bed early that night and woke up fine.

I live in Florida and we started reopening this week. Beaches and parks now open with distancing. This week restaurants could open up for indoor dining at 25%, as well as non-essential retail.

Going out today almost looked like a regular day, except for a few stores still closed.

I don't know how I feel about it, a lot of people are ready to be done with this. I understand people have to work and get back to life. I have to admit I've been able to work through this so far, we've been very busy and I'm in an essential field, but I don't work with the public.

After not being in a store in a month, I did something bad and went to a garage sale, they can open now too again. You had to wear a mask and distance. It sounds bad but after a month+ of no fun, I gave in to temptation and risked it.

On another note, don't want to create false hope and make people think the situation isn't still bad. But there was a report out of AZ this week that scientists have found a weakened strain of the virus. It suggests it may be starting to become something weaker. That's interesting, because that's what happened with SARS in 2003 before it fizzled out. Not sure if it means much, but there is a glimmer of hope this will not be with us much longer.

You know, a LOT of that is fear mongering... and a bit of fake news. Check the link below. Different media outlets reported the deaths of children in the UK, Portugal, and Belgium. THEY ARE ALL THE SAME CHILD. It's absurd! The media is grasping at straws to make the virus look as bad as they can. Yes, some young people die, and some old people live. There are always outliers in any statistics. The same can be said about the regular flu. There are some young people that die from it. So far as I can tell, in my humble opinion (not to mention having had it), it's not that bad. It's nasty, but it's not the black death. Just a nasty flu.

I've heard lots of people talking about having a nasty flu in January / February. It's entirely possible that was the first wave.

I'm not saying we shouldn't be cautious, though.

I have been off mostly for close to two months but my side of work was slow already, then non essential businesses got shut down. I also got a bad cold for about a week just before we shut down and was on unemployment so they didn't need me and closed up. Couldn't smell anything and even got a low fever of just over 100 eventually. I got over whatever it was and feel fine now. Unemployment has been paying except for when they have questions and hold things till I answer the questions. You can't get through on the phone but fax works thank God.
I will say remember that thing called swine flu. I caught it in 2009 and other than when I got Meningitis as a young kid it was the sickest I've ever been. The day I finally felt slightly better I took my temperature and it was 102.9. I took Tylenol and went to the Doc and she found out I barely had a case of pneumonia that she killed with antibiotics before it took hold.
I say better to play it safe and stay home if you can and wear a mask when you have to go out.
Some are going to get the severe version and it's highly contagious so not worth taking the chance as even if you beat it or get the lesser version some start feeling better than get pneumonia and die or spend weeks trying to get better.
I've also had walking pneumonia when I was 18 and we were moving so I didn't tell anyone even when I started coughing blood and that took a week to get over at 18 and in great shape.
This is more serious than some of you think and after several severe illnesses in my life I wouldn't want anyone to go through anything like I've experienced as several times did almost kill me, or could have with a little less luck and treatment.
Everybody stay safe, we have been fine so far with the unemployment and the stimulus check and can pay everything fine so far.

Post# 425165 , Reply# 63   5/9/2020 at 13:47 (1,440 days old) by dartman (Portland OR)

I always have a occasional cough between what I do for a living and maybe the few prescriptions I take. I don't think it was much worse than normal.
My litter sister is now convinced she had it and will probably take a antibody test. I will take one eventually I think as well.
If I did get it it wasn't as bad as swine flu was by a long shot but not everyone gets the mild version. My lil sisters hubby was coughing a lot when I was helping them move into the new house they brought in Washington and he works for a hospital that had cases. Lil Sister was getting sick shortly after I did and my sister who lives here got sick after I did. Lucky our stubborn 80 year old mom has been fine so far even after a surprise visit just as I was getting better.

Keep in mind that this is regular flu season. The news dominating everything and making people paranoid about having Coronavirus is what is overwhelming the hospitals. People rush to the hospital just to find out they have the normal flu or they are hot from hyperventilating from being in a anxiety or stress panic.

The common flu attacks your immune system. Coronavirus attacks your respiratory system. There is no way to not know you have it because it happens quickly. People go from being fine to being on a ventilator in a hospital bed in the span of under 12 hours. It's very aggressive.

Keep hands and face clean, dose up on vitamin C from those airplane sickness tablets or with orange juice (or both) and keep in bed. Ramen noodles work fine at keeping stomach acid down and won't make you sicker as opposed to eating burgers or pizza or etc. Most people in good shape recover from the flu in less than a week.

I got the flu or a virus 3 times. I don't think before this I had it that many. Times in my life.
One of the times was a week long all similar symptoms of covid. My wife had it and went to ER twice.
If I were to guess it could've been covid then.
We had an earthquake in late March here. When Rudy Gobert touched everything shutting down the NBA and that was Saturday and the earthquake was a Tuesday I think. We had fake news 9.5 earthquakes. My wife called saying goodbye. I was in shock. It's just been chaotic I don't watch the news.
I say get outdoors go on a hike, biking or even fishing. You need to get out get some sun and enjoy life. This constant stigmata it seems like it's impending doom everywhere all the time. I worry some but I now know tax time I'm running another water line and I'm getting a bidet. I'll be darn if those toilet paper hoarders are going to affect my hygiene.

Well I got the flu shot early this year but who knows. I was very stuffed up and finally did Tylenol and Ibuprofen and 12 hour decongestant nose spray because what we had wasn't cutting it and I was hearing some rattles as I was breathing. It lasted almost exactly a week and I didn't get a fever till like the third day. I wasn't going to go to the emergency room unless it seemed really serious.
I was so sick with the swine flu way back I stayed in bed the first bad day after I caught it and felt slightly better the next day but still nasty. I didn't get a flu shot that year and it probably wouldn't have helped anyway.
Yesterday I replaced the front brakes on sisters 99 300m once I was feeling better because I had a rough morning. Nothing to do with the covid or flu, just not right but felt better later.
Today I eventually wandered out and mowed the front and back yard, then cleaned my security cameras and cleared out the down spouts on my gutters.
Been mostly laying around and doing whatever if I feel like it and trying not to overeat.
I have also had kidney stones off and on for over 20 years so I know a bit about pain and when it's time to give up and go in. Most times I tough it out and wait for them to pass and I have changed my diet and take B6 and magnesium which seems to change the chemistry in your kidneys so the calcium doesn't bond to the Oxalate pellet that starts the typical calcium stone most people get.

Whether you have corno or not, having a constant cough is a sign there are some issues needing addressing.

Having a constant flow of kidney stones for 20 years?   Uggh.  There must be something with your nutrition.  Have you seen a nutritionist?

You are a stroke away from death.  With a compromised immune system (bad health) you are an excellent case for infection and death.

That's how my Mother just died.  In her sleep.

Well the rocks have subsided pretty much with the vitamin and mineral thing and I get a checkup every year and no major issues. The ones I have are under control with the prescriptions. Plus one of them is known to cause a dry cough for some people that take it.

Nobody has gotten Coronavirus at Lowe’s, Walmart, or Home Depot? It would be a national story because you know some whack job would attempt to litigate against one of these companies if they even remotely suspected that they became infected in one of those locations.

I’m also a little shocked at the original narrative that it increases “exponentially” day after day. None of that has happened yet, either. Folks, we were victims of a deadly (to the elderly with underlying causes) virus and we were even more victimized at the terrorism that we created in our minds over this virus. I currently know of one person who recovered, oh and a 102 year old at my friend’s nursing home that has recovered.

Unreasonable fear sucks, doesn’t it?!

Yeah, this is a sick joke at this point. Old people in nursing homes dying of the flu is nothing new. And of course with any disease there are a minority of outliers... like some young folks. But when doctors are literally being paid to write 'corona virus' as cause of death on any death certificate they please... you should know that this is a load of BS.

The problem with this, is while if you don't have some unknown underlying condition, while you'd probably be ok going out, you could still get it and never have any symptoms. So when you come in contact with those who are older or otherwise could be at risk, you could give it to them that could have bad results.

Or even giving it to those who could also serve as carriers and then you've got a wide network of spreading the crap.

I'm skeptical of whether a vaccine will work or not. They're trying all they can to get one and already be ready to distribute and manufacture. In fact, some are already being produced in hopes they end up working.

We really need to get back to life and get things moving again for everyone. I think the best way to do that is to stop this virus before it can take over the immune system, but we don't have a way to do that yet.

Here in FL we've largely started to reopen. The stay at home orders were lifted this month. Restaurants and non-essential stores at 25% capacity, and of course essential businesses never closed down.

I think they are moving too fast though. This week salons and barbers could reopen with one patron at a time. In a few days gyms and bars can reopen. How can you socially distance at a gym where people are touching all the weights and equipment. And who is going to wear a mask while working out? How do you run or breathe well in a mask?

Even all the thrift stores in my area have reopened. Goodwill has plastic shields at the checkouts, masks, gloves, one way aisles, etc. Habitat is the only thrift I know that hasn't reopened but they are probably going to in a few weeks they said.

It's a risky business going out in public and being around a bunch of filthy disgusting people, touching things that they've touched, breathing in air they've breathed. Not knowing what kind of germs you're bringing home, or spreading to other people.

But that's no different from any other time before covid-19.

does your community strictly enforce 'social distancing' & require that face masks be worn in public?

BG requires face masks be worn in public but doesn't strictly enforce 'social distancing'

it seems like the Meijer store in Bowling Green got too 'crowded' unlike kroger or 'the * symbol' where the line of customers are very long

btw the symbol is the store that used to be called walmart (unless its name got shortened to *)

Yeah in Chicago and surrounding 'burbs masks are required. Honestly, I'm perfectly fine with that. It's an annoying, but reasonable compromise. It's the other lockdown stuff I'm not OK with.

As for the 'second wave'... a lot of people are thinking this WAS the second wave. Lot of folks had a nasty flu in December or January. I'm of the opinion that that was the first wave.

2nd wave already

fan-of-fans's profile picture
Very interesting. I hadn't heard about people thinking this was the second wave.

If that's the case I'd say it was indeed worse than the first with NYC etc. It is still so strange how that happened there, yet here in FL things didn't get all that bad (IMO). Miami-Dade, Broward etc are still closed as they had a lot more cases, but it's starting to ease up even there.

I wouldn't disagree that it was circulating in December and January. That seems to be the common opinion, hospitals in some areas were getting people with sever flu-like symptoms but it wasn't showing up in tests. So they didn't know what it was other than some kind of flu.

Although I'm still of the opinion I didn't have it, because when I got sick it was only for about 4 days, although it knocked me down fast, whatever it was. But this was a particularly bad flu season, so I think a lot of people that were sick likely had something else.

I'm just ready to get back to normal. In ways it already feels that way, since I've gotten used to staying home on the weekends. My credit card bills are way down!

Most likely I'll start going out again soon. Places are open again, and the weather is nice. As long as I stay apart from people and wear a mask, I think I'll be ok.

Masks are not required here, but I wear one whenever I go in public, which hasn't been often. I haven't been to Walmart, Publix, etc in two months. It wasn't until last few weeks I started going to the Dollar General, since there are fewer there. The second to last time I went nobody except me had a mask on.

Hoping this stuff just fades out on its own. The numbers are still high, but they are falling in general. Wonder if it's the warmer weather? Although that doesn't seem to make a widespread difference when you look at other countries.

It's probably a bit like Spanish flu, or at least it will be, by the end. That is, the strongest strain of the virus simply burned itself out, because it killed just about everyone who had it.

This whole COVID-19 thing has really become a huge social issue. This week alone I have pretty much been told that I don't know what I'm talking about and I just need to shut my mouth if I'm that clueless. However I do know more than what people give me credit for and fine. So be it. So things with some friends basically ended with me saying "If you think I'm that stupid okay fine. You do your own thing. But when you get sick and are suffering from the COVID-19 then you better shut up and take it like a man" And with the way some of them are acting they will get sick.

Hi John.

Hopefully all is well on your end of the country. In reality I'm happy about the whole thing. I'm doing better than ever. What they don't realize is that my business partners husband works for the local hospital system up here and is right in the thick and middle of it all. My younger sister is a RN and in the thick and middle of it all. So I know more that what they realize. I maybe just an Accountant. But I now a few things. And like I told them. When they get sick... And they will. All they can do is shut up and take it like a man. They lost their right to complain when they acted the fool.

Well I got notice I go back to work on Tuesday the 26th and I also found out 2 people tested positive in my department and let's just say that "Karma" has bitten one of them. They may not be returning as they've been sick since the 22nd of March. They're opening up the resort but the 3 pools here will not be opening which won't stop people using the many lakes here. I'm either one way or another on the entire thing but time will tell. Now back to the regular scheduled programming 😬

They get too much and try to return(they can’t) so they just take from all those who need. It is ridiculous.

We are under a mask mandate. Masks to be worn in public at all times. I just have to shake my head sometimes though. A police office for the city came in to pick up his two repaired vacuums. No mask. An elderly lady came in to buy bags for her Oreck. No mask. Young woman with a young child came in to buy a Shark filter. No mask on her or the child. Only about 60% are wearing them. I wear mine all the time - yet I'm the one who has to "clean" their filthy vacuum. The price on bagless vacuum repairs reflects how nasty I find the chore in the age of Covid.

Truly, IF everyone wore them in the beginning, the virus would have been under control, shrunken by now.
Last week the White House tree arrived. Everyone was wearing a mask, except "Melania". All of the partygoers who will not wear a mask "Nobody tells ME what to do" can be thanked.
Luckily, Dr. Fauci has been retained, vaccines are on the way. Can't we think of others? Do the right thing. So, we can all be here NEXT year.
My class was the last class on campus until at least January. We're all home.

I wear my mask whenever a customer comes in the store. I had dozens of masks made and printed by ChicagoMike (here on VL) for the Collectors Convention this last September. They advertise my store. However, when someone comes in without a mask trying to give me money, I don't turn it down. Sorry, not rich enough to turn down money. My mask is on me, and my Rainbow 75th Anniversary Model is running with germicide in the water the entire time. There's so much dissolved germicide in the air in the store it smells like a hospital in here.

now everywhere. The signs have been up since April. NOW, people are being fined, businesses are being cited/fined/ even closed for 'non-compliance'.
I've even heard store workers aske people to 'please put your mask OVER you nose".
Some people just won't listen. A few, on their deathbeds, said, "I guess it WAS serious". Others STILL said, "nope".
we cannot be responsible for other people's action. But, sometimes, sadly, we have to pay for them.

I got into it with a friend of mines boyfriend. He was a jerk in elementary school and not much as changed all these years later. He posted pictures of him walking around in the store with no mask because it was "his God given right." We went around for a few minutes and it kept going back to it being his "God given right" to not wear a mask. So I told him yes it was indeed his "God given right" to not wear his mask. But if he was carrying the virus and gave it to me and I got sick from it then it was my "God given right" to sue him and squeeze him for every penny he had for making me sick.

People see where this road goes. It's not hard, you should, too. Lockdowns and restrictions in the name of covid are tyrannical. Straight out of a dystopia like 1984. In certain countries, they track where you go. The gov't actually knows where you are at any given moment, in the name of covid. In China, they will imprison you in your own home (if not actual prison) at their will.

Freedom is a god given right. However, it's not always free. Hence the motto: live free or die. This holds true now more than ever.

'Oh but people will die' is not a valid excuse to roll over and let your government rule every inch of your life, I'm afraid. Choices like this are not easy.

While you may not agree (why wouldn't you?), you should at least be able to respect the point of view.

I've lost 3 significant people since March.

I've been wearing mask since it was first appointed in March and haven't been sick.

I will probably never go back to NOT wearing a mask in public. It's just such a good idea. The Japanese have been doing it long before Covid.

I started using Nitrile gloves and wish I found them years ago. Yes, I was using the standard rubber gloves before for washing dishes mainly. Now I'm using both types of gloves and for a variety of things.

I use the nitrile gloves for washing dishes, brushing teeth, when working in the garden, and when handling other dirty things. I use the other gloves when washing my face, hair, and handling laundry.
I've even made a convenient rack for hanging the clean re-usable gloves so they can dry between uses.

I also got a 2 temperature toilet bidet seat and was pleasantly surprised.

I'm cleaner than ever.

I look down on people not wearing a mask around other people. It's so completely rude and inconsiderate. Of course having failed leadership in the U.S. until recently, didn't help these people.

They truly are the diseased, degenerate, covid infected republicans. literally.
Forget about Unity, I want them segregated out from the vast majority of decent people here in the U.S. You know, the ones who don't try and over throw a presidential election, get themselves on the FBI terrorist lists, and are put on NO-Fly lists.

Oh, and the favorite thing right now. I discovered about 3 weeks ago, but apparently it has been a thing for a couple years now: KARENs. LOL.

OMG. All the vids of karens/carens getting trounced and pounded for their racists, self-centered, inconsiderate, unacceptable behavior. I love it. LOL.

I'm so sick of wearing masks. But like the war, I feel like this is probably going to drag on for years now... I wish it would be like the Spanish Flu and just go away after 2 years max, but it doesn't look like it's going to. And amazingly during Spanish Flu they didn't even shut everything down. The NY Philharmonic was playing aside from a month or so. Masks? A month at most. Amazing.

I've already had Covid, what I had last year was worse, so I'm not particularly worried about it myself. Different people have different outcomes...

There is even legislation being put through in SanFrancisco called the "Caren Act" that will punish people who frivolously use 911 services for racist objectives.

As of today in the U.S. about 460,000 have died due to Covid since March 2020.  That's several cities worth of people.

Greg, we get it. You're a germophobe that likes your toilet to piss back, and you hate people based on their political point of view, and support segregation and denounce unity. Also you hate Karens, I guess.

Post# 438274 , Reply# 107   2/7/2021 at 01:14 (1,167 days old) by gregvacs28 (U.S.)

Thank you for that.  I never really thought of myself as a germophobe.  Though I'm not afraid of germs I just like keeping things relatively clean.  But I will happily take the germophobe title.

What about YOU?  Have you made ANY constructive improvements to your life in the last 11 months?

Or are you quietly hiding out fearing that the FBI will be knocking on your door any day now after matching your face with social media posts made Jan 6th inside the Capitol building?

From above:

"Straight out of a dystopia like 1984. In certain countries, they track where you go."

Yes, THEY, the big bad THEY do track all of us.  If you have a cel phone or other portable device for example you can be tracked down to the square foot of where you are at any given time, so I've heard.   Then there is the Internet service at home.   Plus school records, SS records, drivers records, criminal records, all of ones social media posts....... it's BAD.  They  are coming......

maybe to help you

but some people believe.....THEY'RE gonna GET YOU !   BOOOO!

"....The gov't actually knows where you are at any given moment...."

The big bad "government" may well know lots of information about millions of people but unless your screwing shit up (like trying to hurt others or say causing an INSURRECTION) or are in need of help,

they really could care less.

"Freedom is a god given right"  Freedom is a vague and general concept.

"However, it's not always free."   No, everything decision we make, even indecision, has consequences.

"Hence the motto: live free or die."  Another vague phrase.

".... roll over and let your government rule every inch of your life..."  Again with a vague concept.  The "government"  is not interested in running anyones life.

"While you may not agree (why wouldn't you?), you should at least be able to respect the point of view."

I respect that part of being a human is to want some independence and that there are people who pursue that concept politically because it's their strong attribute.  Even when there is no need or desire for a change to habits, there are people willing to upset society.

People are very interdependent and social creatures even those of us whom don't want people directly in our lives.

It's like she's oblivious to the fact she's been recorded and the police were on their way.
As it says in the vid, it would have been nice to see how this incident concluded.

You're from the UK, what do you think? Would the woman have been cited or arrested for theft and endangerment?

I dont know if she would get arrested, she might get told off by the police but at the end of the video one of the builders goes over to her house and gets the ladders back.

Maybe you saw a different version of the video but in the vid. above there is no ending.

The guys are left stranded on the roof.  Even the narrator admits there is no ending.

Is being "told off" in the UK akin to a warning?  Would  it be a written warning?

We have written warnings in the U.S. where an officer/constable writes up a ticket that states what he/she has been warned about and it goes on record.  That way if a person racks up a number of warnings they won't get off so easy in the future.

Nobody took my latter

while I was up on my neighbors roof working on their cooler, the wind kicked up and a gust blew my latter to the ground. Not a good feeling realizing that the home owners were at work and I didn't have my cell phone on me. My bad. After pacing the roof for about 15 minutes and needing to use the bathroom badly, I opted for doing a hang and drop on the side where the lawn was. Glad it was a one story home, could have been a lot worse.

He's around COVID a lot. He had a heart attack a few yrs ago. I asked him if he was getting the vaccine. He said, "No". 2 weeks later, he emailed me: "I have COVID. It's AWFUL". He's on the mend now.
Being a teacher, we should be getting the shots soon. We'll see.
I feel my supermarket is cleaner now than it ever was before. There are spray, towels, etc at the entrances, etc. There are wipes for the carts, etc. I'm not reckless or fearful, just careful. I have masks everywhere, sanitizer, etc. WE MUST wipe down the desks, etc after each class (we have 2 in-person days).
I'm careful. With the vaccine finally getting 'out there' , it would be a shame to get sick now. after all of this.
So, just be careful and do what we're supposed to do. All will get better.

I got my first shot (Pfizer) Thursday evening at a FEMA mass vaccination site staffed by Air Force personnel. Everything was very efficiently run. No ill effects other than a slightly sore arm yesterday.

Me too! Just got Pfizer yesterday at the Las Vegas Convention.

Be warned

The FIRST one is usually uneventful.

It's after the wait when you get the SECOND one that there is a good chance you'll
get sicker than you've ever been for about 24 hours
and/or
suffer mental haze

And then you have to wait longer to be considered fully vacs'd

But just remember according to experts in the field, at this point there is no vaccine that is 100% effective at preventing Covid.

I got my first dose of vaccine on Thursday. Second one on April 1st.

No reaction other than my arm was slightly sore. Hopefully the second shot will be the same. Most folks I know that have received the shot have not had any reaction. Some have had a tired feeling or slightly upset stomach. Still better than getting Covid.

Gee, Greg! I've had BOTH of my shots and had No "after effects." Nurse who administered my shot said only about 25% of those getting 2nd shot have any effects. I know only one friend who has had any problems...

From what I've heard, whatever one gets after the 2nd shot only lasts about 24 hrs.

I'm in no hurry to get the vaccine until it has a better track record.

I will be wearing a mask when around people for at least the next two years. It's not a problem.

I got my first Covid vaccination today (Moderna).

I actually cried a little. Not because it hurt (not at all) but because I was so relieved to finally get it, and it was just on a fluke.

I came to the pharmacy to get a prescription filled and the pharmacist asked if I had had my Covid vaccine yet. And, as the cliché goes, "The rest is history."

A few hours afterward I still feel okay. My arm is a tiny bit sore but that's all.
