This is the only Convertible I really like. The 584. I have enough genuine bags that I can change the bag after each use and put in a clean one for the rest of my life.

Neither the 1070 nor the 1076 is a top fill bag. They can easily be MADE top fill. They BOTH have 4 position rug height adjustments, metal base, beater bar, big headlight, full bumper, 2 speed motor. The 1076 would have "channels" on the metal baseplate, "allowing more suction"... didn't really. The marine blue (1070) and Ceylon yellow(1076) were very popular colors during production of these late 1960s early 70s time frame. One issue was that the headlight lens would tend to shrink a bit. That was remedied on later models.Tool suction is ok (how much suction does one need... how dirty is one's house?). But the "tufflex hose and attachments are excellent.
Hoover went on to use Ceylon yellow across the line: polisher, Handivac, Constellation, etc............... They are "must haves" if you collect all things "Hoover". I hope this helps. John |

(Neptune Green), was the first to say "Convertible" on the lens, the first to have a white handle (cost reduction),etc. The model 70 is virtually identical except for the colored parts. UNTIL the Hoover badge went to the smaller, sunken one. After the change to 4 height adjustment, front conversion, Top fill bag, Decade 80, later 800, the Convertible is what made Hoover a FORTUNE! It would eventually be replaced on the market by Elite. I was told, by Hoover execs that Hoover couldn't make them fast enough. They were lighter, onboard tools, FEWER parts, thus cheaper, etc. But a good Convertible is just fine, whether it's Neptune Green, Delft Blue, Fawn brown, Garland Green (either the model 66 or the stripped down, more economical model in later years (no light, no handle grip, shorter cord, etc..................all of them are"fine appliances". |

of the 1070 model, too. The 'pedal booties' changed on that run. They got a lot of mileage with that color, too. Here are a few:

The first one I ever added to my collection. Excellent tool conversion and suction/power.

Rob:
I've known you for more than 20 years. I know your taste in vacuum cleaners. You and I share a fondness for Guardian Service and cooking. Plus, we both think Air-Way is the best there is. I don't think you'd enjoy that ugly 1076 or the 1070 model. It's like Laugh-In threw up all over it. Convertibles are not as clean running as a HEPA filtered machine, even a dial with a hepa bag filters better since it's not blowing the dirt into a bag. You won't use it a week before putting it away. Remember the Miele you bought? If you had to have a hoover, the model 68 has style. And I know how much you like style. I have a gorgeous model 70 that I recently restored that is extra (I now have two 70's and no one needs more than one of any model - that's crazy). I'd love to pass it along to you - it has style, it has flair, and with a hepa disposable bag, it will filter like you want. You can always dust with your air-way. |

We never had a Dial A Matic. This was given to me when a relative died and I helped clean out the house.
Bashing a company, brand, machine, model, etc, is just in bad taste. But, we can't be responsible..................... Enjoy any vacuum you like. And, with the Hoover line, you can't go wrong. I have about 8 model 70s, 3 67s, 7 69s, 5 1070s, 4 or 5 1076s. Why? Because I like them. It also is because certain vacuums are important to me, as, they belonged to family or friends. |

switch was NOT sanctioned by Hoover, at all.
People did it, on their own, to bump up the speed. Some even put something in the attachment rack, to hold the tab in high gear. You'd never buy a new Hover Convertible with the motor stuck in high. The last 69 I got belonged to the late and great Glenn Deinst. It had been converted. I took it to N. Canton, and Tom A. returned it to it's original state. I brought it along to share a piece of Glenn's collection. |

I just got my hands on the wiring schematics and I’ll convert it back when I get a speed switch. |
