Howdy all!
At long last I am in need of liquidating my belongings, and they include my grandmother's 560 Kirby, with original in boxes Handi-butler and floor polisher, a later Kirby Classic III accessories box, with most or all of the original to the machine items present inside. All original 560: bag, cord, motor, wheels etc.. Family owned since new. After a long period of disuse, I had to use it again when the modern machine broke down, until it developed a noise and I promptly stopped using it. I finally took it in to a shop here in AnnArbor and the guy said it needs a new bearing in the roller(which I knew about) and bearing work inside the motor so he had called me first as requested to explain that it might involve a cracked housing if he opened it up. I wasn't ready to go there, so I brought it back home. Many of you guys on this site would probably be better candidates for this repair, but I'm prejudiced in your favor! It's a nice, reputable vacuum shop, but the young repair guy didn't seem particularly enthusiastic about cranking on vintage machines. My other pride and joy is my Interstate Compact with it's green vinyl hassock and all the tools it came with. I still have a flip phone (!) so I can't use it for a camera, and my (newish )digital camera and my (newish) laptop have developed a glitch whereby my pictures no longer load--WTF?! Something happened in a Windows 10 update I suspect, of which there are many! So while I get that worked out so I can post pics of the Kirby, you can see the Compact get-up by going to the archives here and search for my old handle "hoseb4bros" (my shame is complete-- I own that one!) or thread # 16096 to see in that first thread "1966 Compact Electra C6" my reply that includes pics of my machine and all the goodies.
The same repair guy assessed a similar knocking noise it finally developed (it ran great for years!) and told me it needed a new motor, so I again nixed him cracking the housing open and damaging it and decided I would pass these babies along, if I could, where they would be most appreciated and loved! Normally I wouldn't be so idiotic as to post a sale without photos for all the merch, but I'm interested to see if there is any interest in my wares at all! I should mention, due to my sentimentality about the Kirby, that I'm sorry, but I will NOT part it out in pieces; it must all be sold together. In the stated condition, with the totality of items offered-- anyone care to make me an spitball offer on either or both?! Thanks Everybody!!! Al

Additional info:

The Kirby is as nice as you'd expect an Italian grandma housewife would keep it! She never got around to actually using the Handi-butler so it's pretty pristine, as is the floor polisher. There is little to no visible wear to the bag; it's pinkish-tan with the encircled Kirby logos all over, just the side folds reveal a deeper coloration so there is mild uniform age fading, but the machine was always closet-kept. I'm not a professional estimator of vintage vacuum condition, but I can't imagine a firm "9" would be a contested opinion at least. It has been used of course, so "mint" it ain't, and I'll hopefully have pics soon-- sorry again about that! I'm moving in a month with lots to do! Getting this posted is finally done!! If you're interested but not around the corner, we can work something out-- they don't have to disappear today lol!!! And shipping would be a bridge too far too I'm afraid-- sorry again! Cheers!!!

Arrrggghhhhh!

I poked around AFTER I posted the above and found out: the cord is NOT white with red ends, so it's not original. The current cord is also vintage however, and is greenish-grey, with a Kirby logo on the wall plug end. We lived with my grandparents in 1962, so the vacuum would have been about two years old then, and I don't recall it ever having a grey "sparkly" bag with a big Kirby logo on it like I've now seen presented as original for 560's. I was really fascinated by that vacuum and would beg to use it for her all the time, so I had some familiarity with it, but time and memory could be playing tricks on me! I can't imagine any reason why the bag would have to have been replaced; it became mine in the early 80's and I've replaced or changed nothing. Does anyone know if it's possible my pinky-tan, multi-logo-ed bag could have been original? Mid-year manufacturing change, old stock getting used up, early servicing upgrade??? It does empty from the top, no zipper, perfect red Kirby seal to the motor. I don't know this particular style bag's origin story, but I've seen it before!

Here’s a pic of my 560. It’s all original. The bag you described sounds like a genuine Kirby replacement bag. I might be interested if I could see some photos. But here’s photos of mine - if you could let me know the differences between mine and yours, that would help me decide if it’s something I’m interested in.

Thank you!!!

Sheesh...

So sorry for the late response- I had a few replies that came directly to my email addy, so I thought that's how it worked and I neglected to check out the actual post! I see the red ends on your cord and I like!! Do you know when my bag was first used as a replacement?-- obviously around the early-mid 60's or I wouldn't have it, but the "vintageness" of it seems older than that-- I know nothing! I just tried to take more photos for you with the same damned result-- my rock and hard place now is purchasing a new digital camera or a smartphone!

There is no pitting or other damage on the housing or chrome parts, but my bucket list to use the Handi-butler to restore and buff it back to the beautiful condition yours is in never happened!

I just plugged it in for the first time since I stopped using it and had it in to the repair man-- and it sounds great! No bearing noise, so I don't know what happened; maybe I had a pin or something formerly rattling in the works, but I also found that the repair idiot didn't replace the existing belt I had on the roller brush (which was newish and not damaged or dry rotted!!!)-- Arggghhh!-- so the noise from the one side of the roller bearing was silented as well. I'm going to test run it longer now and see how it performs. I'm having a bit of brain fog about remembering to get the photo situation worked out-- my apologies. I'll get back to you... and Thanks for your interest!
