Is the front bearing supposed to look like this? Or is it some time of self aligning bearing and what year is it ?

In Kirby's pre 1970 the bottom is open just like that. If you put a socket on top side you could pop the bearing out.
If you keep the bearing if you have a seal plate you can put on the open bearing to close it. Clean, grease and pack it like any other bearing before installing it.
The Kirby's bottom of armature the bottom of the bearings are open.
