These Hoover/Royal made for Aerus have always been a guilty pleasure of mine.
I was wondering who else enjoys these cheap direct are upright machines?
As usual I've shared my experience in a video.

I have this vacuum as well and another under the Royal name-for what they -these do very well. And these do BETTER than my Orecks. No,they not Kirbys, metal Royal,or Sebo-but good machines if you buy them at low prices. And bags are easy to find.

The new model Fresh Era are black and gray to match the current canisters. Since I refuse to sell any tacony products in my store, I sell the Fresh Era and people like them. Now that they've been discontinued (I got the last 10 they had in stock), I guess its onto Oreck for a super light upright.

super light upright

Wouldn't the Felix fit that roll as well? I have never seen an Oreck cleaner since uprights are not really my thing but the Felix is not heavy at all and I doubt you could find an upright that cleans better.

@tolivac would love to see you post some high-res pictures of it.

@dysonman1 I believe this is a picture of the machine you speak of. You say it's now discontinued? What is going on with Aeurs?
Have you seen the new Oreck cordless xlx21 I saw the prototype at the vdta it's quite impressive for a cordless vacuum.

@n0oxy No doubt the Felix and numerous other machines are superior. that's why I call it a guilty pleasure because there's something about it I just like.

Will any of the really “common” vacuum belts fit this LuxLite? I worry that the original belts might become hard to find in a couple of years.

Should’ve watched the video before posting. Looks like an Oreck belt will fit. Thanks.

I love my Hoover Platinum lightweight upright! Powerful, effective and a pleasure to use. Huge easy-to-replace dust bag and very long cord too. Rated “excellent” for carpet cleaning by Consumer Reports when they tested it. Too bad it’s no longer available - and I no longer see the Royal version on their website anymore either. 🙁

Alex,

About 15 years ago, most Aerus's manufacturing was transferred to AB Electrolux's Eureka plants in El Paso and Juarerz and Johnson Electric in Hong Kong (Aerus's remaining manufacturing ceased in 2016). The 50-year-old Bristol plant is now mainly used for receiving, assembling, and distributing. Consequently, the company turned to TTI to help it become competitive with customers preferring lightweight uprights.

The first TTI cleaner Aerus rebranded was around 2004—the white & gray U162A Lux Lite (the model name being recycled from an earlier Regina rebrand), followed by the white & gray U162C Fresh Era around 2009, then the black & gray U162E Fresh Era (pictured below) around 2013.

That line of Aerus rebranded cleaners was succeeded in 2017 by Tacony Corporation's Simplicity S10S Freedom Standard, S10CV Freedom Cordless, the R10S Riccar Supralite & the R10CV Riccar Supralite Cordless. Aerus rebranded them as the U163A Lite by Aerus (seen in your reply #4 photo) & the U162C Lite Cordless by Aerus. Both are black.

As a "cleanerphile" who prefers an upright/canister cleaning duo, these Oreck clones are fantastic for my vacuum cleaning preferences. I don't like using bulky, complicated combination vacuum cleaners - I clean a room from top to bottom with a powerful, simple suction-only canister, then finish the room by deep cleaning with my Hoover Platinum bagged upright - starting from the far end of the space and backing out toward the door/entry point.

If it's time to do a deep clean under the bed or under other heavy furniture that needs to be moved or taken apart, I'll of course use the upright to deep clean the carpet covered by the furniture.

The black and grey Fresh Era uses the Royal style 18 belt. They are knurled like Kirby belts and have great traction.

I was so sorry to see Aerus turn to tacony as the manufacturer of their lightweight uprights. I refuse to give that company one dime of my money - will never sell their products under any circumstances. I hate everything about them. Never ever tacony.

I do love selling Aerus vacuums - the Classic canister is one of my favorite machines to demonstrate and sell.

I think the Fresh Era cleans very well for an 8 pound cleaner and has great airflow. Wish they still made them.

aerus classic

The Aerus classic is a great power team canister. I wonder where those are made now. Tacony has really gone down hill, if you want a well made upright these days, you would need to go with Sebo or Miele. I think even the high quality metal Royal uprights are no longer being made but not sure on that.

I really do like these, in my opinion I think they're better than some Orecks that I've used before. I would love to add the Hoover Clean & Light and/or the Royal RY6400 for my collection. It's a shame personally that TTI decided to drop these along with those other lightweight uprights like the Hoover Platinum Collection for example, they could've just slapped the Oreck name on them if they feel the market was still there. I would pick the Platinum over the Elevate Control if had to choose which one to buy. I have not used the Fresh Era version before but they look like some improvements were made such as LED headlights and a wooden brushroll from what I see. If Aerus liked these so much, they've should've bought the design, tooling, and moldings from TTI. And they possibly would've added a few more jobs at their Bristol plant by having the Fresh Eras assembled here. I'm pretty sure they most likely didn't because of budget reasons but the new Aerus Lites just doesn't look like a Lux compare to the Fresh Eras with it's L-shaped nozzle in my opinion. Still great lightweight uprights in my opinion but I think if Aerus licenses Electrolux's brand again or partner with Electrolux AB, they both could together design something new for a lightweight upright if Electrolux would be up to it because they are still a major appliance company today. Just a thought.

Those are good lightweight uprights, better than Oreck actually. However, my local Aerus office has only sold one since they came out.

I've said this once before: I'd love to see Miele create an Oreck clone to pair up with their great suction-only canisters. Miele could offer their famous filtration in the bag, and reduce the noise levels common with these lightweights. Maybe even a brush-roll shut off configuration for bare floor cleaning.

I have the late 2007-2009 royal bag. It looks like the simplicity. If you are wanting a royal throw the bag on print you a peel and stick sticker and you have a royal.
If you think about it that is pretty much what happens.
Oreck are turds.

my mom has one

I was helping my mom move some things at her house last night, I knew she had an Aerus upright but did not know which one. Turns out it's the Fresh Era, I don't really like uprights so not something I was really interested in but she really likes hers.
