Hello all, I was given two dyson DC17 vacuums that has been found in the trash. They both are in okay condition but need a very very good cleaning. Both seem to turn on and the brush rolls spin. Both have a pretty bad smell coming from them but that can be fixed. I don’t know a lot about these machines but they seem to be alright. If anyone could give me some helpful information on them, that would be great. I plan on fixing these two up and selling one and keeping the other. It just depends. I have a few dyson a already but not this model. Thank you!

They have fairly aggressive brush rolls in them. In my personal opinion I think those clean well with the separately driven brush. They groom carpet quite well. Nice Finds! I also find mine in the trash but the scrappers cut the cord off right in front of me. I ended up putting a new cord on it and it just needed a good cleaning as mentioned above.
You can search Youtube for Dyson DC17 I'm sure some instructional videos on how to clean them will show up. |

The smell is just from dirt and other crap that has been stagnating in the cyclone and the bin. I've found a lot of bagless vacuums that have been sitting with dirt in them for awhile will stink like that. Disassembling the cyclone and dust cup and washing with enzymatic cleaner (simple green pet formula) and a good cleanup should remove the odor. Also putting a new filter in would likely help too.

I bought a DC 33. I paid $15. I cleaned it up. It's actually easy to clean. I just washed filter. I would have bought one but it didn't need it.
I sold it for $75. I buy vacuums to resell. I hated Dyson but I bought and sold this. I was very very strong motor. I think cyclone concept is cool but the smallest thing clogs the vents. I'd like another but there probably hardest vacuums to get around here. Les |
