Picked up this beauty off eBay a few days ago. It had very dry bearings and sparked a ton but after oiling and reinstalling the brushes the right way it runs like new. It does not have the head, but I found a for parts machine, also on eBay, with a head. Due to the hose being cloth the suction is not great, but when I rigged a model 9 head up, I was able to suck a rug one foot in the air! The bag is in fantastic shape, with no holes and one small glue repair at the clip. It even has the original cord! I had to tape it in the parts where it touches the hooks, as the rubber and outer cloth had worn away, leaving only the inner cloth wires. I will post more pics when I get the head.

Just like mine! Interestingly, mine also had one brush installed the wrong way. Mine also sucks the carpet off the floor. It's kinda fun to use for that reason alone. Make sure the oil wicks are in good shape - if they are hardened they won't wick oil well. You can find new ones easily by searching for 'fan wicks.'
If you're getting a parts machine, I may have to hit you up for some parts in the future, as I have another one of these machines in terrible shape. |

Both my model 9 and the 10 have those paddle blades! You know a vacuum has power when it sucks up a quarter and leaves a quarter sized dent in the (steel?) fan housing. That must have happened with my model 9 lol. The wicks are actually in great shape; soft and have plenty of length to pull out of the spring. I have no idea if the parts machine works, but I would be happy to sell you some parts off it. It should be arriving in a few days. I just got it for the head and the switch(the tip of the switch on my model 9 was sheared right off,had to use screwdriver to turn on).

I'm going to have to pull mine out to see what models I have. I remember they were pretty quiet, especially when compared to today's vacuums. |

the back wheel fits different than a 9. i found this old thing about 25 years ago they were closing a hardware store that had been here forever. they found a lot of stuff in the attic and this was one. it had a brush on it when i first saw it but the next time i saw it before i bought it, the rear wheel and brush were missing
