I decided to go to Goodwill and Veterans day. And I picked up A green empower (U5269-900). I accidentally Broke the tool clip the Thursday after. Otherwise it's in good Condition. It's just missing the Turbo Tool, but this is also my First Maytag Hoover That I used. I'll Post pictures of it tomorrow.

Ooh, nice, those are supposed to be rare! I seen one when I first started getting into vacuums at my Goodwill for $20, but I didn't know it was anything special so I skipped getting it and should not have. 2 years ago and have not seen another one. The one I saw was blue.

I also saw a blue one, I didn't get it because it was in bad condition and was dirty. The screws were even rusty. It was a deep blue model, but I didn't know what model number it was. What shade of blue was it? Was it a deep blue or pageant blue. And did it have black accents on the power boost, baseplate, and switch?

It was years ago. I took a photo, but I can't possibly tell where it's at right now, maybe later I can try and find the photo. I think it was more of a turquoise blue, like those old iMacs.

Was this like an upscale foldaway

or was the fold down handle the only feature they shared in common. Nice score on your green empower!

Nice!

There was a green Empower for $20 at a local shop. It was very dirty but it worked. I do not know why I passed it up. Unfortunately it is no longer there. I will keep my eye out! I do think there is a cheap green one on Offerup under something like "vacum" or something close to "vacuum".

Didn't those have the "HushTone" Button?

Those weren't bad vacs

I bought one for a co-worker of mine. She had long hair and my only gripe about it was you had to remove two covers with screws to get to the agitator. She burned through a couple of belts. I like the fact that the handle folded down.

To answer both Kirbyklekter's and EurekaFanSuid's qu

royalfan103's profile picture
1. The empower was like a slightly upgraded version Fold Away. 2. The Empower had the Hushtone mode like Hoover's Commercial Hushtone bagged vacuum which was a bagged equivalent to it's commercial cousin. These vacs are actually still being made as a commercial model.

Also in the post above, there's a comparison between a Household Empower (example-Turbo Empower 4600 U5268-970) and a commercial empower (C1660-900).

My friend used to have one with the clear orange. It had the sliding switch with hush and surge, etc. It was a cool vacuum, but the filters needed cleaning. It didn't have great suction probably because they were dirty.

I like the looks of the green one the best. I'd overall say they're decent vacuums for what they are. I like them but I wouldn't use one for myself.

Is the "hush tone" button like a "hi/lo" switch for the motor speed? When I purchased my new Hoover Decade 80 the shop owner advised me to avoid overusing the surge setting as it's hard on the motor brushes. As I recall you had to push and hold the switch in surge position,it wouldn't stay in surge position otherwise. On my Kenmore canister EVPC 4.5 which has variable speed control at the pistol grip, you can slow the machine down, and sliding it upwards brings the machine back to the normal running speed as if it were a single speed vacuum. The power nozzle isn't effected by the setting except for the on/off switch. The main motor isn't over taxed by adding more amperage than in regular speed. I wonder if these are a "distant"cousin of R2D2, it appears they share a little DNA,lol.

All the links don't work, I think there are typos in them or they just don't work.

The 1st one does nothing, The 2nd one takes me to a page not found screen, and the 3rd one takes me to a Vacuumland error page. What are you trying to show me? Can you please take a picture of it so I don't have to click a link that won't work?

Oh, so that's what you were trying to show me, EurekaFanSquid. I went there back in October. To answer your question kirbyklekter, it is a switch to the motor speed because it sounds lower pitched in Hush Mode. Also, to answer your other question, the Empower was like a fold away with speed control. Anyways, how's your Turbopower Fold Away going?

& Royal Fan103 Thanks for asking, I pressed it in to service a couple weeks ago. I swapped out the roller with my WindTunnel Deluxe, non self propelled. That apparently makes a difference when ordering a new roller. Not sure why, but so be it. The new main filter made all the difference, no more dust all over the outside of cleaner and I'm sure the motor breathes better too. I had some car expenses which cut in to my vac. budget, but soon new rollers will come. Trust me this little guy shows all it's years of use so when I post a pic. you won't be impressed, but you can see what 2 yrs. of heavy use with minimal care will do to these. I rescued it and stored it until recently when you sparked my interest in Foldaways. It does a good job and the motor still sounds good. Film at eleven.

I still have my Empower.

Just replaced the filter in it today and swapped the original nylon brushroll with my Widepath Tempo's CWP brushroll a few days ago. Anyways, has the Fold Away finished being restored, kirbyklekter? I'll Upload some pictures later...
