Very nice! I always liked the Hoover blenders, especially the green models like that one with the spatula in the lid and the other version with the wider base. I've not seen that chrome blender on the left before, looks interesting.

Hoover small appliances never seem to turn up around here, and I go to thrift stores fairly regularly.

Impressive collection! The only small Hoover appliance I own is the iron.

I imagine that you have some Penncrest/JC Penney versions, too. If so, please post some photos of them.

I like collecting color sets, too. While I have mostly Electrolux ones, I do have a partial color group set of Hoovers including the tropical island green Model 36 Convertible, the marine blue Model 1140 Dial A Matic, the nassau blue Model 454 Constellation, and a Penncrest polisher (model and color name currently unknown).

Are you considering taking photos of your complete color sets of cleaners? That would be frosting on the cake!

Well, Kenny......................

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
"My" degrees are in: Theatre, Business Administration, and Education. I came close(2 courses) away from a degree in Philosophy.... but , didn't.
I spent a lot of time at The Hoover Historical Society. It's the accredited museum at Walsh University. I served as a docent there......... volunteering, cleaning, entertaining at Christmas celebrations. It was there that I was shown the correct way to document, display, etc as well as how to treat paper items, etc.
I also dated someone who got a degree at the famed Wintertur Museum in Delaware. From that relationship, I learned how to handle art, marble, etc. (There are very specific ways)
But my degrees are not in the field of museum studies. I'm just, at best, a pretty good collector. I know what I know, and, I know my limitations. Anything I don't know, I go to the experts to find out.

off topic, for a second, but................ same idea

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
When I opened the 'studio' in the Philly area, I had to be careful about the name. I owned the rights to a 'fictitious name", now that the original owner died, but, I used her name on the school. When I finally closed it, canceled everything, and opened my own school, I added: dance, music, piano, voice, drama, gymnastics, printwork, etc. I was able to have it at "Conservatory" status. If I weren't careful, in the performing arts world, I would have been laughed out of Philadelphia! Because, I was up against the 'big guns'.I earned a stellar reputation in that town.

One must be careful about the "legalities" about certain things.

I'm already starting to plan it out in my head. It's very possible that there will be a very large crowd as it is very conveniently located on the East coast.
Tom A. has promised to come and stay here for a few days to help me with everything. There are lots of neat things to do here. Sam, Joe, Robbie, and I are not far from each other at all.
I'll have the house ready...am already planning a nice menu, trips to vacuum shops, museums, etc. It will be interesting AND fun to have THAT many people here in this old place.
Fingers crossed!!

DANG...... To say this is an 'impressive collection' is a huge understatement!
You need to open your house as a museum, and you have a beautiful house at that.
I never knew Hoover made so many non-vacuum related appliances - it was very educational looking through the pictures.
Great thread; keep up the great work of collecting and restoring!

You are terribly kind. I never dreamed I would have these things. I'm very happy to share it with others. And, thanks for the comment on the house. It's been a "labor of love"... restoring a 140 yr old, 12-room house.
But, I'm getting there. In the Summer of 2-21, The VCCC convention will be 10 miles away, in Scranton. The "gang" will be here to enjoy my collection, and a nice dinner.
I have a lot to do! lolol

Well, Andy,

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
I'm already starting to plan.
There could be up to 60 people here. We'll serve fresh fruit, (always), w/ a family secret sauce/glaze, some sort of chicken (prob Italian), home made cole slaw, maybe mac and cheese (from scratch), a homemade cake, cookies, perhaps a cherry pie (for out lactose intolerant) who can't have cake, water, sodas, and gallons of nice, cold ...yes.... "Pittston Hospital" iced tea.
Some food items are subject to change.

Sound enticing?

speaking of "tea"....................

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
I HATE hot tea, but love iced tea. I love the smell of coffee, yet, I might only drink 2 or 3 cups a YEAR! This iced tea was made years ago in a crock on a stove at the famed "Pittston Hospital". It was known, especially, for it's stellar school of nursing. All over the U.S., if you mentioned. "Graduate of Pittston Hospital School of Nursing", you were hired!! Because of our rich coal mining region, it was also quite known as a superb "burn treatment center", for the treatment of mining injuries.
A few years back, I, along with a 'team', wrote and directed a documentary about the hospital and it's leadership. I unearthed the "recipe". For a bout a year, 7 of us would meet in my home to pour over photos, interviews, etc, to go into said documentary.
All of these retired nurses grew up on that tea. I surprised them all by serving it to them. They were amazed and "nostalgic" about it. I make it ever since.
I was born in that hospital, as were most of my family. I learned that my father was the last person to die there, before the brand new, state of the art hospital opened.
So, the place is near to my heart.
It's been called a lot of things. Some, who have no history or respect for the place, (or me, for that matter), have called it a mental hospital. Say that to the faces of those who worked there and see how far you'd get.
But, we cannot be responsible for the actions of others.... only our own.
So, gallons will flow in 2021 when The VCCC convention meets here.
By the way.... the hospital was cleaned regularly with Hoover vacuums.

Your house and collection is just beautiful.

As for the trivia: was DELFT BLUE also used on Celebrities and some Spirits?

Are you partial to uprights? I'm not seeing as many canisters.

Delft blue was also the color of the 719 Convertible.I don't believe it was used on anything else.
Here are a few more tidbits of Hoover...some 1940s machines, the famed 1076 in action. I had just finished the complete restoration of that room, and unrolled that Chinese rug. It still sheds. That is also the 'back staircase'...leading to the (maid's room)..now , the (cats' apartment)... soon to be also the Hoover "gallery". Also, there's a nearly mint model 67 Convertible in "fawn brown".

There was a time when HOOVER wanted to be the total

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
king of household appliances. They even had Knapp-Monarch... a 'division' of Hoover, which they eventually sold. Of course, in England, laundry machines made them vast income!!And, that goes back decades. I have one of the first 'mixers', a big, heavy one. Here is is, along the newer, 1960s types. I believe it came out in the 50s. BUT, Hoover made an iron, early, with the famous 'pancake' dial, which came out in the 40s, similar vintage as the 28 upright. By the 60s they were in full swing, into the 70s as well. Later, they decided to concentrate on 'floor care'. I can check my facts w/ Tom in Ohio. He'll be able to pinpoint it all, as, he'll have all of this at his fingertips. Next time we chat, I'll 'check it out'.

It seems obvious why Hoover decided to concentrate on vacuums:

1. there was great profit margin and bigger pricing field.(A $60 vacuum vs a $10 can opener)

2. The vacuums generally are easier to make with fewer precision and moving parts. That also meant fewer warranty repairs. ( a geared hand mixer or can opener vs. a canister vacuum with only a motor in it)

3. Plus, GE was already dominating the small appliance field. And it wasn't long before even they didn't want the small appliances and sold them to Black and Decker (1983).

By the way,

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
that tea and soda bread in the above photo was a kind nod to the other countries who made Hoover products.
Wasn't being a snob (that I'm accused of being).. or part of my "affectations". Is it a crime to like nice things, work hard for them, and SHARE them with everybody who has ever set foot in that house? I don't really thing so.

WE were in Minneapolis at a convention. Joe Kassock was with me. He was asked, "Is "he" really like that...all the time"? Joe replied, "Actually, yea, he is".
So, there ya go!
