My project is complete. I made a brand new dust indicator and I have to say I'm very
pleased with the results. I had purchased a donor AirWay just for the unbroken
indicator. The donor is nice and runs perfectly so I was still in need of an
indicator. Picture #1 are the broken pieces from my original vacuum. Picture #2
is the basic art work my wife put together by taking my picture of an indicator and enhancing it quite a bit. We added the background color but ended up making it clear. Picture #3 shows the original retaining ring on the right and the smaller
12 gauge ring I made to fit the dome shaped glass I purchased. Picture #4 shows the indicator fixture after I cleaned it up by very lightly sandblasting it and following up with steel wool. Picture #5 shows the finished glass insert. I transferred the decal to the back of the glass and sprayed it with translucent glass paint. Picture #5 is the entire unit ready to be installed on the vacuum.
The glass can be purchased from Norkro.com and is item # 70-703-13. It's a perfect fit. The paint is Krylon canary yellow for stained glass and Krylon lemon sea glass. I used both to achieve the desired color.
If you would like a decal, email me and I'll send one out. If enough people are
interested, I have enough supplies, except for the glass, to make about 20 more.
I would only charge my cost.
If I were greedy, I'd put them on eBay for $ 50.

I wish Airway would have made it out of glass in the first place.....

Neat, so the glass is actually glass? That's cool. I like how you colored it yellow to make it look aged.

thanks

The art work was the hardest part..we had to take a picture of my good indicator
and enhance it a bit...darken the lettering by tracing with a computer "pencil"
and changing the colors to match the actual one.
We experimented with 3 different types of glass paint.
After the art work was done, it was quite simple..it's just a decal.
The glass is actually a clock face cover.

Hey! Do you still make these? If yes I would be very interested in one. I am unsure of the diameter of the one needed(getting the machine soon) and that site does not want to search using the part number. Thank you!

Nice work!! A few years ago I found an Air-Way at Goodwill with a cracked indicator. Here's what I came up with. Not original, but I think it looks pretty good.

The original cord was a bit ratty but I didn't change it. It wouldn't ever be a daily driver, just a machine to admire for its ingenious design.

Hoover300

I made 2 of these originally and sold both after I found a near perfect one.
I have since made 2 more..let me know if you need one.
They look original.

Looks good, CRL

I like your fix.

Cool to see the original plug, also...my Sanitary System has an original cord but replacement plug.

It's hanging in the store and could really use some polishing up.
