Hi. Sam and I are now beginning to collect, gather, peruse, etc. items for the next newsletter. Please think about sending stories, poems, photos, recipes, service/spa tips, etc.
We have get it to the printer before Dec 7, so, we're looking at getting it "camera ready" by Thanksgiving.
I know......................
Thanks, in advance.

Are you asking that question of everyone reading this around the world, or just members of your little group? I'm sure people in England have wonderful articles and ads for European vacuums. So many members of Vacuumland are not from the U.S.

And, I realize that not everyone celebrates Christmas

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
Some celebrate Hanukkah, some don't observe anything. That's fine, too. But, it IS a holiday edition. It's always fun to see decorations, ads, poem, recipes, as well as a 'spa' treatment tips, ideas, etc.

Question

lesinutah's profile picture
Hey
I have an interesting way to use commuter stone.
I also have close to 20 advertising ads from 1920s.
Which of those would be suitable in your opinion.
I got newsletter. It was put together and I was impressed.

Hi Les!

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
Any info on stones, polishes, etc will be GREAT.
As far as ads: I'd say anything "different", maybe with a Christmas "theme"... we'll look over loads of them and will select some choice ads from that era.
Thanks.
Glad you like the newsletter.
John

I hope there is plenty of vintage style Christmas ads/displays etc....the vintage aspect usually denotes family...nostalgia...memories if nothing else....a glimpse in to simpler times.

Exactly!

I'm amazed at the artwork that went into all of those things. Sam is currently scanning lots of old ads, etc. I have wonderful photos, for instance, of THe Hoover Company at Christmas .
They'll be tales of the glories of Christmases long, long ago.

Well, it's time

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
to really 'dig in' on this. Next Wed, Sam and I are meeting at his house to do the initial 'layout'. We're making some nice additions to it. We've found ads from long ago that should put us all in the 'holiday spirit'.
I've gotten a few things in the mail so far. Thank to you who sent things.

Membership has increased by 7. Things are looking up all over. We might be able to use a nice Sears ad too. Sad to see them closing...awful to think others would be happy for that. Sears, as we know, is an American institution. A piece of U.S. history is closing...turning a page.
But, NOW is the time to send us your items for publication.

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
After very nice comfort food (home made soup), we did the newsletter layout. We're trying to use ads, pics, graphics, etc that haven't been seen in a very long time. making them almost 'new' again. You'll be amazed to find Miss Tania 'out and about', recipes, tips, ads, pics, poems, etc.
Fun things are happening.

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
I have numerous copies of the old issues. They are great...found some interesting info in some of them (way back, and, around 2007). Several folks worked on making them happen.
The newsletter IS a lot of work. We ask for info. Sometimes, we get it. Sometimes, we don't. Luckily, Sam is super creative. We 'brainstorm', he gets an idea, I get an idea.
True, it is NOT done for US. It is done for vacuum people, collectors, especially for all members of the VCCC.
I think you're gonna really like it.
Thanks, to everyone, for your ideas and contributions.

Next one will be in the Spring... a 'pre-convention issue'

We actually might have more info than we need! That doesn't mean stop!! We'll put some of it in the Spring issue......(more on THAT later).
But, we got some wonderful stories, ads, pics, poems, recipes, etc.
Sam has found some wonderful art and old magazine ads.
We'll be making a roster (of 60 members), also.
So, things are looking up in a big way. Haters will be sad to hear this, but..........
We'll be working hard to bring you a great Christmas "holiday" newsletter!!!!!!

We've just purchased a special scanner.

So, Sam is now able to scan wonderful old things, right from his own home. There will be another newsletter in the Spring, including items that won't fit in this issue. Such items will be photos from Sam's December meet. The deadline for printing won't allow that.
You'll see wonderful things in this next issue.
Thanks to all who helped us with info.

I'm no expert. Never claimed to be. I hope no one thinks I am. I'm just restating what I've heard from other trusted collectors. Yes, Tom

Anderson, just for clarification purposes.
He lives within walking distance to where it all happened. He has all of the legal, bonafied, documentation at his fingertips.
When I ask him, he tells me. IF he's not sure, he has the written info, right there. Then, he can WALK to the actual museum, where everything else is kept... in climate controlled safe, steel cabinets.(regulation for museums).
Doesn't get much better.

I just sent Sam my poem

"The Night Before Christmas".
I wrote it years ago, kind of a spoof on vacuums. I had to take some lines out. BUT, I was able to incorporate the great Stan Kann. People do not own the copyright to people, although some might believe they have exclusive rights to others. Stan was a wonderful guy. As most know, he was an avid vacuum collector, entertainer and famed organist at the wonderful Fox Theater.I hope y'all like the poem. I was able to mention various vacuum brands, not just Hoover. "Diplomacy".

I now know, as does Sam, how much work goes into these. You'll see wondrous vintage ads, (including Miss Jayne Mansfield), you'll find Miss Tania in outrageous predicaments as well. We'll put the "spa" tips in the Spring issue. We'll also focus on the next convention, in sunny, hot Georgia... home of Coca-Cola.
Ken is working diligently, as is Barb, I believe.
It's going to be great. After the holidays, a lot of info will be coming about it.
But, now, enjoy the beautiful season of Christmas. And, look for your copy of the newsletter.. coming to a mailbox near you.

Newsletter are an extreme amount of work. I was lucky when I was helping because we have a company who would prepare them for mailing so we didn't have to use stamps. It was actually cheaper because they could do postage by exact weight.

For me, I don't want paper any more as an effort to help not destroy our world and the environment. All of my bills are now electronic, my newspaper is electronic, I refuse to use Styrofoam, straws, or anything plastic...

My rant...LOL

Thanks to all who put forth effort and I look forward to receiving my electronic version.

Morgan

Morgan,

Our place also prints, etc... The post office also does a great job, no need to stamp, either.(they do it by weight, too). But the entire undertaking is a huge task.

I'm very "Earth conscious" too.
I hope you'll enjoy your electronic issue. Merry Christmas to you, too.
John

The "roster" has been inserted

and it will all go out in the mail.
Lots of brands are highlighted, not just Hoover. But, HOOVER Does get a prime spot.

Newsletter is fantastic!

Thank you John, thank you Sam:

This is perhaps the finest newsletter yet!

I won't spoil it for everybody else but the Christmas ads take me back to my childhood and I'm sure I'm not alone. This will sit in a place of honor on my coffee table for all to see. And an added plus, the roster. Finally I have a way to contact members.

Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year to members of both the Vacuum Cleaner Collector's Club, and Vacuumland.

Alex Taber.

Thank you for all the work put into the Christmas edition of the newsletter! Love the vivid colors and nice paper used. Love the classic photos/ads/images used and for future use! It seems we all here, are into 'retro' so I find using images from the past quite 'fitting' for the newsletter!

Idea

lesinutah's profile picture
I'll throw this idea out there.
If you did 2-4 page history on like Hoover, Kirby, electrolux, etc. Have experts in history chip in.
I think we all know some history but maybe educate members.
I did enjoy vintage ads.

We owe you so much.
