Did dirt devil copy shark? Or did they partner with shark to make this.

Oh this vacuum mold has been used by everyone. I think Shark started it then everyone started making a hand vac with that mold. Fuller Brush Co. and Riccar are also guilty of making one I believe.

Nobody copied anybody this is a commercially available product in China. Like so many other things in the world if you're willing to pay for it they're willing to put your logo on it.
As stated above its had just about everybody's logo in the game on it at some point.

Well in this instance, yeah Shark came first but when Dirt Devil went after it, it wasn't necessarily a copy - more that Shark likely just sold the mold to them, or it was just a "free use" design at the time.

You'd have to do some digging around at patents and stuff to figure out exactly what was going on and who the original designer was and what his stipulations were.
It's just like Dirt Devil's Ultra hand vac design got re-used for many different companies too.

That might be what happened, and then other companies just kind of daisy-chained onto it.

The two holes at the top and bottom back of the vacuum makes me wonder if at some point it was intended to have a shoulder strap or something on it?

It’s most likely the same Chinese manufacturer making essentially the same thing for both... Not the kind of machine I’ve ever really noticed before.
