In my efforts to restore a Hoover Model 700, there's one thing that's in need of attention: the brush roll brushes. Does anybody know where I can locate a pair of these? eBay, or any online marketplace would be sufficient, or something else. Just anything that fits, anything new, new old stock; just something that works.

Bonus question: I like the original bag, but I don't want to wear it out and would like a newer spare, but I don't want to buy something that isn't going to fit. Would this be a usable replacement? (linked below)

The seller of the bag has the brush roll strips your looking for. Just message them and ask for them. I got my 913 Hoover strips from them.

I sent my message asking about them

Turns out, he is sold out. So the search continues. Is there a model number I can search for? I checked with the serial/part numbers on the strips and came up empty handed. Is there another model or type that will fit, maybe with some slight filing or modification?

What "Run" is your sweeper? The 700 had different brushrolls throughout the run.

First run cleaners used 8639 (long) and 8640 (Short).
Second Series used 8955 (long) and 8956 (Short).

Alternate first series style was 86187 (long) and 86188 (short).

Remove the old brush inserts, the number may be stamped inside.

Also that bag will not work. You will need a Round bag ring with an old style Large Oval or Round ring opening with no zipper, cloth shakeout style.

Try asking Chicago Mike, he has had success with making replacements.

You do know that you can take the brush strips out and turn them around for a little longer wear, unless they're past that point.

To get the brush strip out take a screwdriver just press the end by the belt pulley down and under the belt pulley and the other end should just pop up out of the agitator. The brush strip should have arrows on it marked new and used.

I have a model 700 too, how would you know when the bristles are worn out? Is there a specific length that indicates when they are too worn and need to be replaced?

In the manual it tells you that if you put a card across the rug plate and the bristles don't at least touch the card it's time to turn them around or replace them. That's on the agitators that don't have an adjustment for the agitator.

On models that have an adjustment at each end of the brushroll i.e. 102, 103, 105, 541 you just move the adjustment to the next hole in the tab to lower the brushroll to the floor and take up the wear.

Here's the two pages from the 700 owners manual that cover the belt and brush strips. According to my price list those brush strips were at a nominal cost of 50 cents for the long strip and 45 cents for the short strip.

Don't think that would be too big of a problem. Would have to guide me through the international shipping process but I'll it can't be too bad. Which are you wanting? I have 86187 and 86188

You tell me a price because I couldn't be more clueless. And I will get into checking on how to get them there. Hopefully someone else can chime in if they've ever done it
