Recently, a Hoover model 700 came into my possession. In addition to the usual restoration procedures (grease, new cord, cleaning (haven't really polished it much yet)), I modeled and 3D printed a few upgrades to help break it into the 21st century.

Firstly, the handle was loose and I wasn't sure if a spacer was missing or what. The previous owner had just used a ton of electrical tape, which wasn't satisfactory for me, so I made a little thing to fit around it nice and snugly.

Secondly, I wanted to use an inner bag, but also keep the original bag on there. Thankfully, the hole was large enough that I could design something to fit between the two metal plates and extend into the shake-out bag. I used a Eureka F&G inner bag for this, but a Hoover type C could work just fine, I'm sure.

Lastly, I wanted to use modern attachments with it. The original hose/attachments are cool, but are too long (for me) and not very flexible anymore, and I wanted to use modern attachments so I wouldn't scratch my parents' furniture with the metal tools. I made the adapter with the intention to use with an old Hoover Encore Supreme hose, but realistically, any kind of hose should be able to fit on there.

These are only prototype designs I'm still working on improving, but this is basically what we got so far. The original looks of the machine are still preserved, and no parts were modified (just added)!

Only thing it needs are new brush roll brushes, and I can't exactly print those. Does anybody know a part number, or other machines that use those same brushes that I could look for?

P.S: Excuse my college dorm in the pictures, I didn't have many options for a good location. :P

That bag fill tube is an awesome idea! Have you considered selling them?

Would love to have the designs for that fill tube, a friend of mine has a small 3d printer

Thanks, everyone! Once I finalize the designs, (there are still some irregularities to be ironed out) I'll upload them online for free download.

I intend to make the bag tube two parts connected with a ridged rubber tube so that it can flex, because its current fixed position isn't optimal for airflow.

As for selling them to those without access to a 3D printer, I'll likely make a few of each design to sell: Two-piece (most efficient), and one-piece (cheapest).

I'm typically pretty busy with coursework, so it won't be immediate, but I'll upload designs as soon as I finalize them. Because 3D prints are not airtight fresh off the printer, they will need post processing (though the ones I would be printing and selling would already have this post processing done).

Any other important information regarding the prints (and post processing) I'll enclose in the files!

Hi I'm wondering if it would be possible to 3d print the fill tube in a way to replace the original bag ring and like I can clamp on like an outer bag I make?
Thanks.

I have been very lucky to possess a large number of new Hoover brush strips. Remove the two strips you have, and let me know the number engraved on them. I'm happy to help you out with some new strips to make your 700 perfect again.

@2011hoover700 -
That would be possible, assuming I'm understanding correctly. Are you looking for a part that would fit the same type of bag as the original bag ring, but just have the fill tube built in? If so, that is certainly in the realm of possibility!

@dysonman1 - I would greatly appreciate that! I'll have to check what brushes I'm looking for when I get to check next, as I'm out of town for the holidays. I'll send you a message when I figure it out!

That's exactly what I'm looking for. I would like the hooks around 1/4" think so it can fit more models with the same bag ring.
Thanks.

I see you're from PA also. Where in PA? Are you close to the Pocono area? Perhaps you'd be interested in attending one of our mini meets.

Thanks again.

@gottahaveahoove: I'm from Lancaster, so not quite near the Pocono area, though I suppose I could make a day trip out of it!

@2011hoover700: I saw your e-mail and intend to reply soon! Those listings are indeed mine. I've been testing these parts for a few months and think they're ready for others to use them.

I'm currently working on cheaper wheels that are just solid PLA (the ones I have listed right now use rubber filament, which is expensive), so expect to see those posted in the next few days.

I'll be posting other 3D-printed parts as well, and will be uploading the designs online (I'll bump this thread when I do that), so that anyone with a 3D printer, or anyone who knows someone with a 3D printer, can get access to the parts without having to buy from eBay.

With the 3d printing what program do you use for the drawing and design?
I'm also interested in at least making my own patterns to hopefully save some money on 3d printed parts but hopefully I'll get a good 3d printer in a couple of years.
Thanks.
Damien.

Thank you for the support, Chris! I hope they serve you well.

To answer your question, Damien, I use Google Sketchup 8, which is very old, outdated and buggy software. I would recommend getting into something modern like Blender, where a lot more options are at your disposal. It definitely takes some time to learn 3D modeling software, but once you get the hang of it, it opens up a lot of possibilities (when paired with a 3D printer)!

Patrick, I have an app called wuweido that can create 3d designs. I don't know if that is a good app or I should check for a different app.
Thanks for your advice.

3D Printed Brushrolls?

Would you be able to 3D print a brushroller for these machines?
