I find it hard to believe it would have that stupid headlight winding in the motor like a Kirby. Especially, like you say, since there were a lot of those models and headlights were optional.
In a worst case scenario, if Hoover was THAT idiotic, you could simply wire the headlight to the 120v power supply for the motor and convert it to a 120v light bulb (they usually use the same socket). But again, I HIGHLY doubt the motor wiring on a Convertible has anything to do with the light. Kinda surprised no one else has chimed in. At any rate, there's only one way to know for sure: take it apart and look. |

It looks like the wiring is somehow attached to one of the carbon brush housings, but I figured a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. |

If it's attached to the carbon brush housing it's a ground. There will be two wires from the coil and two wires from the headlight and two wires from the power cord. Each set of wires has black which is power and white which is neutral. The whites all connect and blacks all connect.
If it two speed, headlight 2 wires, coil 4 wires, power cord two wires, carbon brush 2 wires. Carbon brush one is ground other is power, headlight neutral and power. The coil 1 power 2 neutral and one ground, switch power and neutral. Green is usual ground, black, red and blue are usually power wires, white and yellow are usually neutral, the neutral may also be any color with a white stripe. The white stripe means neutral.
