I am having problems getting the belt to stay on the little metal stick that turns it (Not the tech term, but I hope you know what I mean). Everytime I vacuum up something I shouldn't (edge of a rug, bottom of a curtain) the dang thing pops off requring a PITA removal of the bottom plate to get it back on.

Is there an easier way to deal with this? Something I can do to prevent it from happening? Or is this machine going in to the "Pretty To Look At, not for use" side of the collection.

Andrew

Maybe,

it is that the belt isn't sitting properly on the brushroll or "the little metal stick that turns it", or maybe you shoud try replacing the belt cause it could have a defect.

Whenever a belt migrates itself off the motor shaft first look for rubber buildup on the shaft as well as on the crowned pulley of the brush roll. Clean the buildup off - I run the vacuum motor and shave it off with a penknife while its running and finish up with emery paper.

Check to be sure its the correct belt for this model. Inspect the belt, both sides, for any sign of deterioration. Replace if nicked or melted in spots. When the brushroll slows down in deep carpet or gets jammed the motor keeps running and burns spots in the belt - that familiar burning rubber smell.

Still slips off? Then the motor and brushroll are not running parallel to each other. In a machine like the Riccar its unlikely the motor has shifted its mounts so suspect the brushroll end caps have lost their seating in the case or the bearings have heated and melted their seating in the roll core.

CIf the wrong belt is too tight this can quickly heat up the bearings and metal ends, deforming the case plastic seats they bed in, over time destroying the para-linear relationship between motor shaft and brushroll 'axles'.

When belts run off in power nozzles it's usually the motor mounts have broken or a mounting screw has vibrated itself loose, allowing the motor shaft to twist forward toward the brushroll.

My grandma has a Riccar N2000 and whenever I change the belt it slips off but when my uncle changes it, its fine. I never figured this out. Tell me if you find the solution out. Also, you could contact Riccar direct, they are very pleasent to deal with.
Good luck!

I sold one of those machines on time to a man who loved it for about the first month. after that he could not keep the belt on. I took it to try and fix it, I had it for a few weeks and could never get that darn belt to stay on. It would spin for about a min. then slip right off. I finally had to take it to Oklahoma to a Simplicity/Riccar dealer and leave it. All he did was replace the brushroll and it works just find now. The brushroll was in great shape or so I thought. You might try that.
