I am meeting with Sam Addison this week to discuss the newsletter! I came home with great 'stuff' for the 'post-convention issue'. Now............... I NEED people to send photos that were taken in Oklahoma City.
Yes. Kids, it's going to be a great newsletter.
Thanks.

Hard to believe, BUT............................

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
I'm also getting ideas, items, etc. ready to prepare the CHRISTMAS newsletter. Yes, there WILL be a Christmas "Holiday" edition too. I asked for help...........and, I GOT it!
GREAT stuff is coming.

Also, Sam Addison is going to do the newsletter, once again

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
He is a very creative man, full of ideas. With a little inspiration (4 eyes are always better than 2), I can only imagine how nice, new, fresh, etc it's going to be.
I'll be contacting Alex Taber, too. The reason is simple: We're dedicating the newsletter to the memory of one of the "pioneers of The VCCC, Ann R. Taber". She was the one who first typed them when the club was in it's infancy. I know Alex will be touched to see that none of us has forgotten his mom, Ann.

Well, I spent hours at SAm's house last night

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
WE went over tons of stuff. The newsletter will be fresh, new, fun, etc. Sam is very creative. I think/trust/hope you're all going to be very pleased and satisfied with the results. A few 'mock ups 'will be made, changes, etc.
WE found a wonderful photo of Alex Taber AND his late mother, Ann.
I am very proud and pleased to say that we, The VCCC, are dedicating this newsletter to her. She was there from the very beginning. I think it is only fitting.
I hope Alex will be pleased with what we're doing for both him and his mother, Ann R. Taber.

We're also starting to bounce around things for the Christmas "Holiday" issue.
IF anyone has anything, wants anything to go int there.................... sharpen your pencils.

The discontinuation

Of the newsletter is one of the reasons I left the VCCC .Im glad its back.,As Clay Floyd stated That is the only product the club has, without it, why pay dues.A printed hardcopy newsletter is a must in any club.

That is very true, Hans

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
Well, the HARD COPY newsletter is BACK with a PUNCH!!
In 2 years, the VCCC convention will be held in Scranton, PA, about an 8 hour drive from North Carolina. Might I offer you an invitation to at least reconsider rejoining? I know there has been a lot of 'bad blood' in the PAST. where it belongs. I had nothing to do with it. Yet, I, myself, have been ridiculed, made fun of, threatened, even by others who don't know me, and NEVER really will.I'm not about to go down any unpleasant road.
But, I've chosen the 'high road' and have risen above the stench. If you'd care to belong to The VCCC once more, that would be great. If not, I totally understand. You and I have never had a cross word. I can't see that changing .
The decision is entirely yours. But, consider it, at least.

I think most of the club wanted a printed copy of the newsletter. We revisited the issue after we had voted to go paperless at the Minneapolis convention in 2011. I am extremely happy that Sam and John are taking over the newsletter. I hope that there are no hard feelings. Personally, I've never done anything harmful to people inside or outside of the club. Especially online. I really wish a certain person or groups of people would really think things through before jumping to conclusions. After all it's just a vacuum club. I have much important things to attend to such as ill grandparents and my job. You can believe me or not. It's your choice! I just wanted to get that off my chest.

Anyway back to the newsletter. We are still acquiring photos and stories to go into the newsletter. I really appreciate John and Sam for doing the brunt of the work. Thanks again!

Newsletter suggestions

Hi John,

Long time no speak (pardon the pun!)

One thing that makes the newsletter most resourceful is to have pictures labeled and with the names of the people in them, and pictures of machines with the model numbers listed with production years listed (perhaps in parenthesis).

Anytime something is pictured it should disclose the sources otherwise they are just pictures. If an article is submitted, then it should include the writer's name and along with the city/state in which they live. Sometimes an article needs to be prefaced as do pictures. Events that are described should include dates. Some past newsletters would show an ad, but no explanation as to what year it was published and what model number and brand it is.

In other words, the newsletters with good source information will serve as a sound reference later on when information is needed.

Point taken.

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
This is why we welcome all ideas, suggestions, etc.
I'm meeting with Sam again tomorrow night. We'll organize pages, setups, displays, articles, etc.
NOW IS THE TIME to add ANYTHING you'd like in there.
Pretty soon, it will be too late.
There are some great things going in it. A touching tribute to Ann R. Taber, for instance. (She was the club's original secretary, and son of co-founder, Alex.
SOON, we will be getting ready for the Holiday issue... lots of Christmas stuff.
AGAIN, IF you want things in it............................. here's your chance.
I know there will be attention paid to ALL makes of machines. And, I'm all HOOVER. But, it will not be a "Hoover" issue...... but................
Also, we're working on the "roster". IF you do not wish your name to be on it..............................."Coming: Christmas, 2019"

I think you're gonna like this newsletter. (Well, some probably won't like it). Also, I know nonmembers will see it. and some will have comments. My ears are already burning.
But................... the rest...................... enjoy!
Already thinking about the Christmas issue. YES, there WILL be a Christmas holiday issue, too.

The next time Sam and I meet,

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
we'll perfect the text for the newsletter.
I'm known as the "grammar Nazi" at the college. Simple things: like spelling plurals correctly. Like, when people accidentally say "Hoover's" instead of Hoovers. HOOVERs is plural, where Hoover's is singular possessive. Asking, "Hoover's WHAT"?
Of course, we all can, and do, make errors. But, for a printed newsletter, it must be correct.
I teach English.
"Thank you, Sister Pauline". (She was the BEST grammarian on the planet).

Always such a good sport, she allowed us to take pics of her in various "settings'. You'll see her 'adventures'.................traveling around the globe (kinda like Flat Stanley). Does anyone know about "Flat Stanley"?
It'll be fun, no doubt.

Meeting with Sam again next week,

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
after I return from North Canton.
He has spent HOURS doing the front 'cover page'.
I hope/trust our members will enjoy it. I have no doubts that lots of others will see it as well. some may not like it. Some may 'rip it to pieces', figuratively speaking. They might hate it, mainly, because they might actually be impressed. It's the only way to 'react'. That's fine, too.

But, the "hard copy" is back. And, the Christmas "Holiday" one will follow.

I was at Sam's last night until after midnight.

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
There are about 2 pages left to do. It's amazing!! I'd give Sam an idea, and he'd come up with great, colorful, creative results.
we were able to list names in some places, (yes Louis, we listened). We were unable to do it everywhere.
I'm sure some will criticize it, but..... hey.
It is looking fantastic! Sam looked up important facts about Kansas City. They are well-known for (jazz, fountains, and barbecue). You'll see it, as well as a very touching tribute to Anne R. Taber. Sam made my suggestion surpass my expectations. Well-done, Sam!!
More to come.

Just about ready for the printer

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
In preparing this, of course, we looked at many past issues. All kinds of things were found. Some great stories, photos, articles, etc. are there. Also found, in issues (before my time), were minutes of meetings. Some were pleasant, fun. Others revealed info on members who are no longer members.... along with the reasons why. I won't list the issue(s) or page numbers. But, they are there. When one digs, one finds.
But, that's history.
So, enjoy the new newsletter, along w/ new ideas, and a slightly new , different logo. It will look especially great on the Christmas edition.

Hey
I thought I'd drop a quick idea by you. If you 3 hole punch pages. If you use metal clip things, the clips are used to flip through flash cards. Maybe
If you just punched a hole in top left corner.
I'd suggest binding but that's is too cost intensive.
Sorry no parentheses in my post.

Since the two are completely SEPARATE, why in the world does the VCCC make their announcements to the entire world on Vacuumland? Why would they not use their OWN website. Begging the whole world for people to send them information for their newsletters, but only their 'members' get one? If you're not going to invite everyone to a party, don't make the party public knowledge just to say only certain people get to come. Or announce mini meets that are only for invited guests but are put up on this forum as if to dangle a carrot in front of the entire Vacuumland audience that no one is going to get? Don't they consider the feelings of VL members across the globe? So snobby.

I think this is perfectly fine if the VCCC wants to announce their club information on Vacuumland. I'm sure the majority of readers of Vacuumland will ignore most of the VCCC announcement threads if they are not a member of the VCCC. Others may decide to join the VCCC as well if they wish to receive a newsletter or other benefit of their club.

Our membership has grown by 6 new members just recently. Of course, one loyal member recently passed away. As we were, at one time, all one large entity, we are now friends, but separate. I/we appreciate being able to come in here to talk, share, etc.
It amazes me that some would have nothing better to do than 'covertly' insult a group from which they are banned, for more than one reason. I'd refer to one newsletter, page 3. Who'd like a copy?
Simply: if one is no longer a member, why would/should they care about what we do? Yet, instead, we're criticized, made fun of, ridiculed, pick a verb. What drives people to constantly try to hurt a group of which they were a member, BUT, are no longer, due to their behavior? All of the issues happened just before I arrived. I wasn't there, BUT, it's all been made so clear.
I wish no one harm, bad luck, etc. Sadly, the same can't be said the other way around.
So, The VCCC is thriving, and will continue. We're glad to also be a part of Vacuumland. We will continue to do so. Again, Robert, thank you, for everything.

Sam, you did a great job!

I heard very nice things about it and am pleased. Sam is very creative. (Well, perhaps I helped a LITTLE).
The next one will be fantastic, no doubt.

Did you receive your copy yet? I believe they've all been sent now, except one that is going to Puerto /Rico. IF you didn't get it yet, please tell me. I have one copy left, and am making more, to have 'on hand'. It became crazy adding all these new members to the list. But, I was glad to do it.

I was thinking about

kloveland's profile picture
sending in some recipes that belong to my mother and grandmother. I also thought it would be nice to do a vacuum review. I remember from one of the previous newsletters a member at the time did a thorough review on a newer Dyson canister. It might also be fun to do a review on a vintage vacuum such as the Hoover 150. I know we have more than enough content for the holiday newsletter. These are just some thoughts.

I have to go to the printer to make additional copies, as, my supply is depleted.
We've had an influx of new members recently.
How many members are there now?

John,

kloveland's profile picture

We have seven new members. I'm expecting an email from a prospective member. Sounds like he'll join so that would make eight new members in a short amount of time. As of now we have close to sixty members. I’m keeping track of our members in an Access database. I wouldn’t say we are a tiny group by any means. Maybe not the largest but certainly not the smallest. In my opinion this new influx of members is largely due to the newsletter.

Sam has put a great deal of work into designing the newsletter. And John you have spent a great deal of your own personal time printing and mailing the newsletter out. Every time, the club gains a new member I let John know and he mails out the newsletter. Making separate trips for each mailing. I’m getting ready to start working on the roster. I will be emailing our members to make sure that their information is up to date. It takes everyone to have a successful club, the president, the board and the members. So, keep up the good work!

joining The VCCC, now celebrating 35 years of vacuum collecting.
You'd be most welcome!

Make that 36 years John.

The Vacuum Cleaner Collector's Club officially began January 2, 1983, and the first meeting was held the weekend of May 4, 5, and 6, 1985. With I think 5 members, founder, co founder, club secretary, and assistant editor.

I finished the roster last night. I added one old member and one new. We now have exactly 60 members! Fills out the roster nicely front and back using 30 to a page. We are on a roll!

Possible trouble

If you end up with 61 members and it could ruin everything.
I'm just joking but I'm OCD about picture frames being crooked and lots of other things.

Just a thank you to you and Kenny for all you do for the hobby. I am sure the newsletter must be a huge job but will be appreciated by all the readers.

That comment is much appreciated.

Sam Addison has a huge part in this, too. He has the degree in Graphic Arts. We talk, I suggest, he suggests, he brings it to the page, we check, revise, etc. Kenny also adds his thoughts and ideas as well.
It IS a lot of work. But, it is SO worth it.

Thanks.

John,
I was typing too fast ! I did want to thank Sam Addison too.
Collectors always appreciate all the pictures of machines and stories that are shared.
I enjoyed the Hoover appliances that you posted. I never realized they had such a variety. The only thing I was aware they made besides the Hoover cleaner was their famous Hoover Steam Iron with the pancake dial and stainless steel sole plate.
I still have my mother's Hoover iron. In it's day it was considered a Luxury
item and was prized for many years of service. Like the Hoover cleaner, it was priced higher than the comparable brands of the time.

Rob

That iron

with that (pancake dial) is truly 'iconic'.
They lasted forever.
