I've always kind of liked the small shop vacs. So last year I bought a HyperTough 1 gallon from Walmart. It's a decent little unit, but what I didn't realize until I opened it up, is that there is no way to use bags in the unit. Which is ok, but when cleaning up dust or sand, I prefer having a bag rather than clean the filter.
The Shop Vac 3 gallon that Walmart sells looks like it would be a good alternative. It's only about $10 more. It's not much bigger than the HyperTough 1 gallon, but it has wheels and can use (and includes) a bag. It has a decent set of attachments too, just would need to add a soft dusting brush and you'd have a good car vacuum. Typically I prefer to use my Shop Vac for car cleaning, because it has great suction, and I can just hose out the bin when I'm done. One day I might start using my Kenmore Cleanmore for this purpose though. If I got the upholstery nozzle I could shampoo the carpets. And since it has a power nozzle I could vacuum the car mats really well with it. Only real drawback, is the one I have doesn't use bags, so have to clean that filter. |

I have a Durango, and its used to haul all manner of things, so I always have used a Shop Vac to clean out mine. A house vacuum would just get ruined quickly or get blades broken.
I have the original Shop Vac Mini Hang-Up. I love that thing. I last used it to clean my cold room out in my basement. I got up into the floor joists and above the foundation wall and sucked out 30-40 years worth of dirt. I had to fight the manager at Goodwill to sell it to me because they were trying to get $25 out of it. It was only after other people in line vocalized their opinion in my defense on the price that they said okay okay just take it for $12, and then I got half off that. It had none of the tools either. Just the vac and the hose. I seen Menards is selling the modern equivalent to it for $19.99 - but this photo I took is a couple weeks old now (June 14)

Bringing my little Shop Vac up from my very first thread when I joined. I just used mine yesterday. Me and my dad used it to clean the area where my sister's Guinea Pigs are. I used a gulper nozzle I got a year ago on it. The suction was so strong, it stuck to the floor.
I think I could use it with the gulper nozzle and a homemade stain cleaner solution in the wet mode to pick up stains. But maybe I might find a Dirt Devil Spot scrubber or Spot Scrubber Power Reach to use on the stairs with my Royal Hand Vacs. The link to the thread talking about it.
