If you like that model...you should try an XL21/Platinum model! Quieter, better air flow, better brush roll. I worked part time for Oreck for 8 yrs. Huge seller even with the 699.00 price tag. Yours sold for 499.99.

Hi Doug,

Congrats on the new Oreck and glad you and your wife like it.

I own four Oreck Vacuums, the Oreck Edge is my favorite just because of the design and look. I Love the colors and the built in attachment hose, etc. Sadly, by the time I bit the bullet and ordered mine, they were out of stock on the Handheld Vacuum they sold with it. So I am always looking for a mint/new Oreck Edge Canister Handvac. Something about the Bronze/Brown and Orange Colors and the sturdy design makes me love this Oreck the most. It’s also nice having electronic suction control and it is the most strong/sturdy feeling Oreck as well. Also, just the idea you can grab the attached wand and suck up stuff in corners or hard to reach places is great too! Oh and Oreck needs to (in my opinion) make ALL their vacuums with the Lifetime Belt. I don’t mind changing the belts as they side door makes it easy, but I love the fact I just grab the Edge and know it’s brushroll is always running at top speed.

I have Two Oreck Axis, a Red Bagged Model (she loves the color Red) I gave to my best friends 90 year old Mother so she can still vacuum her own home by herself. (See pic 3) The Second Oreck Axis is mine and I wanted the Blue but ended up with Purple. This is my “daily driver” so to speak and I love the Axis. It is very efficient and easy to push, love all the features and it’s swivel head. Overall I am also very pleased with Oreck and it’s performance and durability but in the beginning was also a bit of a skeptic. Changing that first full dirt bag is a good way to see your skepticism change! Wow.. the large amount of fine dirt, sandy grit and dog hair was shocking to say the least. My last Upright Oreck is the Forever Series Gold. This is one I save and keep for my collection just because I wanted to own it. It’s great and I’d use it often but have to admit I like the swivel steering on the Axis that this model lacks. Otherwise I just wanted it and love the gold metallic color scheme. And my fourth Oreck is the Ultimate Handheld Vacuum and I really Love this vacuum. It get’s used all the time every day almost. I really enjoy using it to clean out the car as it’s easy to get around inside my smaller Honda Civic with a smaller vacuum.

I Love all vacuums and give every manufacturer and type of vacuum a chance and fair shake in my Collection. I have eclectic taste and I do not just buy a Vacuum Cleaner on it’s merit, cleaning ability or durability... I am in it for Fun and just buy what appeals to me. But with that said, the Oreck Vacuums I own are my favorite lightweight vacuums by far.

Thank you for sharing and I’d love to see pics of your Oreck. Also, please keep us posted on how well you both like it and if you find yourself buying another new Oreck. I found it difficult not to buy more after I bough my first Oreck. I’m just sad that Oreck no longer sells their Refurbished Vacuums on the Oreck website anymore. I picked up my extra Axis for only $199 and they had some really nice vacuums for sale at very low prices. The greatest thing about Orecks own Refurbished vacuums is they arrived like Brand New vacuums! Every part of my Axis was brand new and my Edge did not have one spot or scratch on it. I would only buy refurbished when the actual manufacturer does the refurbish, because so many places just “clean” up an old abused vacuum that was returned and then ship them out rough and not so nice. But Oreck might as well have called theirs “new” from my experience. I also like the fact the customer service ladies are super friendly and love their southern accents.

Ok, I’ve rambled on and on too much now. But congratulations Doug and enjoy your Oreck.

Rick, thank you for your input too and I’d love to hear about your years working for Oreck sometime. Also, what is your opinion on the Oreck XL21 versus my Oreck Edge? What features are different and is it as good a cleaning performer as the XL21 or Platinum?? Thank you in advance for any advice.

Thanks guys

Patrick

I've had a few of them!

blackheart's profile picture
The first Oreck I've purchased was one of their Buster B canisters
My first Oreck upright was this black one on the left. It was a nice introduction to the company and after seeing so many infomercials for them in my younger years I was definitely excited about finally getting to use one.
Within a year I found one of the 40th anniversary editions for cheap at a yard sale and picked that up (not pictured)
Then I spotted a red commercial one at a consignment store (not pictured)
At some point I got rid of that Buster B then ended up replacing it.
Then came the 21, I was at my favorite vacuum shop and asked the manager what he wanted for it. It's bag lacked a zipper so I bought it for $50, then stitched on a new zipper with a thin fishing wire, which in hindsight was probably unnecessary.
The CVR4000 was a short lived find. I only picked it up to save for another collector, I had no interest in it. So i brought it home and listed it on this forum. That thing was tiny! It came up to my belt when standing upright.
I think the Teal 4090 came next. I spotted one at the same vacuum shop but the price was a non negotiable 129 I think so I passed on it even though I really wanted it.
At some point I tried one of the 6 amp handheld canisters and strongly disliked it due to it's sound.
After my friend raving about his Magnesium I decided to try one. I purchased a used machine from Ebay and when it arrived the fan was cracked resulting in some horrible vibrations, I got a partial refund and repaired it myself. While it was very easy to use I was not as impressed with as I hoped.
The last Oreck i've picked up was an Ultimate handheld. It was a customer abandoned machine. It didn't sound horrible like the 6 amp one but the new design took a little getting used to.

I think that Oreck is underrated and often underestimated. I'd put their performance at upper end average most likely beating out the vast majority of bagless machines as well as some rather weak bagged. Of course the cleaning ability varies with some models like the XL21 or the magnesium which do perform better than the "old style"
