If you like that model...you should try an XL21/Platinum model! Quieter, better air flow, better brush roll. I worked part time for Oreck for 8 yrs. Huge seller even with the 699.00 price tag. Yours sold for 499.99. |

The first Oreck I've purchased was one of their Buster B canisters
My first Oreck upright was this black one on the left. It was a nice introduction to the company and after seeing so many infomercials for them in my younger years I was definitely excited about finally getting to use one. Within a year I found one of the 40th anniversary editions for cheap at a yard sale and picked that up (not pictured) Then I spotted a red commercial one at a consignment store (not pictured) At some point I got rid of that Buster B then ended up replacing it. Then came the 21, I was at my favorite vacuum shop and asked the manager what he wanted for it. It's bag lacked a zipper so I bought it for $50, then stitched on a new zipper with a thin fishing wire, which in hindsight was probably unnecessary. The CVR4000 was a short lived find. I only picked it up to save for another collector, I had no interest in it. So i brought it home and listed it on this forum. That thing was tiny! It came up to my belt when standing upright. I think the Teal 4090 came next. I spotted one at the same vacuum shop but the price was a non negotiable 129 I think so I passed on it even though I really wanted it. At some point I tried one of the 6 amp handheld canisters and strongly disliked it due to it's sound. After my friend raving about his Magnesium I decided to try one. I purchased a used machine from Ebay and when it arrived the fan was cracked resulting in some horrible vibrations, I got a partial refund and repaired it myself. While it was very easy to use I was not as impressed with as I hoped. The last Oreck i've picked up was an Ultimate handheld. It was a customer abandoned machine. It didn't sound horrible like the 6 amp one but the new design took a little getting used to. I think that Oreck is underrated and often underestimated. I'd put their performance at upper end average most likely beating out the vast majority of bagless machines as well as some rather weak bagged. Of course the cleaning ability varies with some models like the XL21 or the magnesium which do perform better than the "old style" |
