Hey
I recently bought some Hoover bag bellows from henryvacuums on eBay for $10. I had an inkling to stop the it thrift store. They had a black and Decker handvac late 80s and the motor was shot. There was a lux 2100 I believe circa mid to late 80s. The cord was shot and I think circuit board for power nozzle was fried.
I seen a Bissell lite. I went to plug it in and try the hose. The vacuum bin hose brush roll was seriously full of lint. I was not in the mood to clean it out see if it warranted $5. There was no other vacuums to suck up into that vac. There was a Hoover 913 400 watt which is either 3.5 amp or 4.5 amp motor. It had a shakeout bag. I turned it on and it sounded pretty strong.
The vacuum underside is metal. It has a rubber bumper and where light goes is rubber housing. The rest was metal.
I brought it home. I took off bag and cleaned it out. I added bellows and put f and t bag on it. The bag is nicest shakeout bag I've seen. There is a weird height adjustment on rear axle. The underside was easy to unassemble it. The plate over motor housing clipped on. Brush roll was held in place. It rattled a bit. Being metal brush roll with metal housing and bristles are almost gone and bearings on brush roll need packed. The belt worked. The fan was in immaculate shape. I took belt off and spun the fan it made a sound like a worm drive. I don't know if it's bearings behind fan or anything else. I'm not sure when the vacuum was made but led light worked on it. I think only piece missing is light cover on hood.
The vacuum cleaner is a beast. It weighs more than 30 lbs I'm guessing. I think you would not worry about dents in vacuum you could demo house walls with this vacuum and walls would have dents while vacuum would have paint on bumper.
I could see popularity of Hoover's. It had like 1/8 of an inch bristles left and it was cleaning up extremely well. It's quite a nice vacuum. I paid $7.00 for it. The brush roll said Hoover 6 and had replaceable bristles.
I took pics on of it. You can't see bag setup but it is f&g now. I think maybe some bristles and maybe bearings.
The main noise when I turned off was brush roll. I'm not sure behind the fan of there is bearings. Just the bearings brush roll bristles a belt and perhaps a lens and vacuum is ready for another 50 years. I'm not sure on year it was made in guessing early 60s.

I'm no Hoover expert but when I see a well built machine it's easy tell. Unlike eurekas this is all metal. I thought good old Americana built like a tank last forever vacuum. I was surprised reading up on it I found it but not surprised reading about it after using it. I didn't have a Hoover but I do now and I'm keeping it.

Light lens

The uk models were exactly the same. There never was a lens on the headlight. Love these machines
Built like brick shit houses. You can throw anything at them and they will take the strain, unlike many of today’s commercial cleaners

Great find! This is a commercial model, they are tough to find and even still can sell for a lot in a vacuum shop today. It is a well respected model and very hard to break.

Update

I have dissambled entire vacuum. I cleaned it up I have to grease bearing on the bearing wall. The carbon brushes are almost brand new. The armature is in good shape. The fan has Hoover stamp on it. I ordered the wrong brush insert replacements. The new ones will be here Tuesday.
I adapted bag with a bellows. I added my tubing made it Kirby f HEPA bag. I have to glue bellows and fill tube.
I got the paint scratches out. It's a hammertone light grey and clear coat. It has a few light scratches. I may try to polish but I'm not stripping entire clear coat finish sand down re clear coat. I think light polish will suffice the metal isn't made to polish like Kirby's. With bearing fixed new brush inserts and greased bearings on brush roll. The fill tube it's not huge power it's like a Jeep slow and steady it is like a tank slowly moving. It's no 10 amp royal but it's all metal vacuum and it's cleaning power is far and above any 1950 eras vacuum. I have not dated it yet. I imagine 400 watts is approximately 3.5 amps. It cleaned up nice and I'll post pics reassembled with brush roll inserts and bag.

Rated 105 - 120 volts, so...
400w / 105v = 3.8A
400w / 120v = 3.3A
Yes, as voltage goes up, amperage goes down.

As this vac was made in England, it would be appropriate to call this 'maths.'

I figured

The sanitairre I have is 840 watts 7amps so 120watts/1amp. It would be 3.3 with line above the 3. My maths was off.
