I wanted to share my experience of information I used from Tom Gasko on the Forum on how to STOP the leaking dust from the original Hoover Type "D" bags for the Dail-A-Matic.

I changed from using the original type D Hoover bags which always leaked dust into the compartment to a Type A Ricarr hepa bag.
As you can see it fits fine. I did what Tom Gasko advised and wrapped the bag attachment post with a few rounds of black electrical tape.
The Ricarr Hepa bags are very high quality and even have a rubber collar.

Where I saw the BIG improvement in the suction and air flow is with the dusting tools. What I am really pleased is with NO MORE leaking dust on the RED filter or in the dust compartment.
I can now use the machine without blowing dust back in the room and may add life to the motor if it is not getting dust sifting through form the old paper bags.

Thanks for all on the Forum for help getting the Hoover inlet tube repaired and now to Tom for his advise on changing the type of bags.

I attached pictures to show what I was using and the new bags from Ricarr.

Rob, you are so right. Those bags really make a DAM work properly. Those horrible genuine Hoover bags leaked like a spaghetti strainer.

47 years of progress in bags

Tom,
I am very happy as now I can use the Hoover. With allergies I could never use it on a regular basis. The original Hoover D bags were of course MUCH better than the replacement throw-a-way bags I bought from Hoover now, but even the original bags always leaked into the walls if the bag compartment.
What I am enjoying is the much better performance of the Hoover dusting tools.
Now to find an original Hoover tools box. I do have the vinyl tool storage bag.
I guess you could say filtration has come a LONG way in 47 years.
