Confused on date of our Kirby Sanitronic 80. Thought they were made from 1967-1669.
Our serial number is 758063

I thought the second and third number were the year. But 58 doesn’t make sense.
Any help please

Brian,

Your D80 was made in 1969. The letter "J" on the motor shell housing by the rear wheel well possibly also hints at this.

The serial number you see is sequential, but as to when it was made, it would have only been relevant to the month and year built but it is not a date code.

On these machines are iffy. I have about 6 d80 manuals. The manuals have serial numbers all over the place. 3 manuals from August 1969 to Nov 1969 2 from Texas one from Illinois. The serial numbers are within 300 on serial numbers. The others are not close.
No way to date off serial number.
Les

Huh...

I've been meaning to ask about my serial number of my D50 (A103700) and about Kirby serial numbers in general. At first glance, there was nothing in the serial number that matched the production period of the D50 (1965-67), but then I reasoned that the date was not formatted into the serial like so many other things in life.

This is a very difficult thing to decipher for all Kirbys made before the Heritage 1HD, which was the first machine to include a date code in the serial number.

We will have to find documentation relating to Kirby models from the Model C of 1934 up to the Tradition of 1979-81, to really know. They will only be relevant as to month and year built.

Your D50 was likely built sometime in February 1965.
