Servicing & restoring ( a bit) a classic vacuum ....and paying attention to some of the details ...can really ad to try vacuums’ effectiveness. Here, I work on a just arrived Rainbow D4 SE dated 1986. I addressed a commonly overlooked ( I think) area on the power-nozzle....the gasket/rubber/foam that seals the bottom plate ...on the inside ...& helps keep the airflow/dust going where it’s designed to go. This is my 2nd power-nozzle where I’ve replaced the foam that had SO deteriorated. I also replaced foam sealing the motor off as one photo shows it’s completely gone.

Hope this encourages any of you to take another look at yours...& see if it needs reviving as well.

Way better gasket so it makes air tight seal to the carpet. Putting a sponge Or filter next to motor to stop motor from moving.
Nice job overall. Part of metal plate if brushes on brush roll hit to you could cut that part out. Nice attention to detail it will be quieter and more effectient and effective. Thanks for that. It makes small details can be fixed.

Looks similar to the powerhead the earlier Royal canisters use. I think they used the same one as the plate looks like the one my 413 Royal uses. Too bad the improved Panasonic powerhead they used on my 4650 doesn't have a steel sole plate as all the ribs to make the lines and help keep the brush from digging into the carpet have broken out. I bet you could use some of the door weather stripping like I've used on my two outside doors before if that isn't what you used. They make them in all kinds of flexible materials that have a sticky side to glue on the door frame or door and are skinny strips in a roll.

I believe eureka made a multitude of power nozzles. Compact, Fairfax, rainbow, filter queen, Electrolux. I may be a little off on those just naming off the top of my head.
I was using my compact(eureka) power nozzle and belt came off. I'm going to do these similar things to mine since I'll have the plate off. Like I said good thread.

I fixed and sealed my compact power nozzle last night. It's also sealed and foam for motor and I also think the bottom plate slid when rug was caught in it. It works sweet now and I'm going to keep using and let Wessell werk stay on rainbow. I forgot how powerful and effective it is.
