So I have been a bit quiet on here for a bit mainly due to busy schedule and family. My little sons are now big handsome teenagers.
The vacuum collecting has continued with numbers growing and I have finally been able to take some time off and do some of the restorations I have been wanting to do for the past year or more.
Below are some of the pics of new additions ( some restored some still awaiting ) and some of my restorations.

First up
A unrestored vorwerk vk117 , I never really was fond of these although I did have some most of them made their way to my friend Jaun in Pretoria as he loves Vorwerks but as I have noticed as you get older your taste changes and often something that was not of interest suddenly has some.

Three more 500 series to add to my South African Electrolux time line which is now almost complete

502s was a full import made in GB
550 made in SA and the 502s successor as the entry level upright, attachments were optional on this model in SA
560e the tol model also manufactured in SA with a SA designed motor with replaceable bearings ( the 550 also had this motor )

I love the 500 range almost every one that walks into my shop see's these and is " oh my mom had one " this is the vacuum that put Electrolux on the map in SA and dethroned Hoover as the leader in floorcare, up until the 506 and 560 models ( in particular ) Hoover dominated the market with their upright vacuums ( Electrolux was more known for the cylinders ) but with these machines they knocked Hoover off the throne. Hoover only ever again once took it back for a short while with the launch of the very successful aquaplus 1800 wet&dry vacuums until Electrolux launched their own version here and took back the lead as the best selling vacuum in SA, a position they held right up until their exit from floorcare in 2015 Hoover disappeared as a company in the 90's and became a badge on various sourced products here, Some genuine USA Hoovers ( wind tunnel ) but mostly Chinese stuff and now we get a few TTI sourced machines

Joanne found me this Columbus Sylvia to help complete my Columbus vacuum cleaner time line from South Africa
I am currently restoring it with new motor bearings cleaning up the body work.

I am one of the lucky ones in that my Spouse not only understands my collecting but also actively supports and helps me by finding allot of vintage machines for my colletion.
Thier was one of these for sale a few months back at a insane price but Joanne found this one at a small Antique store in town for a good price ( she never tells me what she pays for them )

Hoover 1012 Junior

gsheen's profile picture
This was my scary vacuum as a Kid , The local pre school was housed in a Church and the maid Sybil used one, No one knows what she did to me but this vacuum loving kid couldnt stand this vacuum, I would scream if it was put on near me or if she came near me.
any how some 35 years later I am basically over my fear of it although her name still brings a chill to my spine.

This one was bought from the owner of a hardware store who had recently retired and is busy down sizing his home. It was bought brand new and still used for one part of their large home

Hello Gareth,

A great haul of interesting machines, never before seen a hoover outer bag with press studs?

That model of junior was one of the last of the really good 1300 range. I remember them being in the shops. That model was the last cleaner owned my late aunt.

Regards, Walter.

Great pics buddy, I loooooove that Junior & love your story behind it... I'll name her Christine :-)

I am the guilty recipient of your Vorwerks & I thank you for that, I loooooooove them they are Modular which means gadgety & I love gadgets & how you can interchange the parts to make weird combo's.. plus they are great vacuums

the Columbus is very cool, never knew they existed, I know Columbus as those Clunky heavy deadweight polishers, that I love by the way they are awesome machines, congrats on that find an ill look out for more cool vacs.

your display is awesome wish I had the space to do something like that especially with my PC's they require lots of space..,

Bud thank you for being a great friend & all my shampooers you know I love them. I used to love playing with my mom & grand as a kid now I got my own to play with without being scolded :-)

Great collection buddy, your stuff is always of the highest standard

Hoover u4016

Now this machine model is a interesting issue,
Normally when manufacturers change colour on a machine their is a digit difference on the model number but Hoover SA didn't bother
I have a dark green U4016 , a brown U4016, Light green u4016 a metal base geen u4016 and the rest are plastic bases

This is my Cream and (judging from the pedal and height control levers been plastic ) one of the last

The 1012

Hey Gareth
It’s years since I replied to anyone on here.
I know what you mean about the scary junior. My mum had one here in the uk. And I was the same it used to scare the he’ll out of me. Instead of keep putting the tools on to clean the dog hair from the sofa she used to pick the whole thing up and vacuum the sofa. I used to scream and run as it got close to me
Luckily I got over it and to this day it’s at the top of my list of favourite vacuums. I have 5 maybe 6 now. Ours in the uk had zip up outer bags.
I used to try and sabotage the junior sometimes by taking the belt cover off and putting the belt on the wrong way round. When mum turned it on the belt would either snap or ping off. Mum used to vacuum with that thing 3 or 4 times a day because of the dog hair. A habit I’ve picked up.
That’s a fantastic example. You have so many vacuums I’m quite envious of Models we never got in the uk and colour schemes we didn’t get. Keep up the collecting.
Regards from a very wet and thundery Eastbourne in south of England

It's great to hear from you, sorry it took me so long to reply I have been off doing income generating things which seem to take up a huge amount of my time.

Odly enough is mainly and thundery here in Cape Town tonight aswell
Cheers
