My Dad has been working on my 1972 Kirby Classic 1CR, and he found quite a few flaws with it until then undiscovered!

Among them:
A missing speed switch insulating tube.
A bent armature cooling fan.

I plan on replacing the following before operation (metal fan already included):
Nozzle seal ring
Screws for front clamps and front bearing plate.
Fan case to motor housing screws.

In the future:
Front and rear motor bearings.
Carbon brushes.

My field coil screws stripped out on mine. I tried everything I have a fourth of a screw left on the bottom side of coil on one side. The other side is off. It's truly the biggest pain.
It's only Kirby like it. It's the cross over model it's one of a kind. It's a great vacuum though. You can get this classic back. Nice work so far.

Les,

Too bad... let's see if your local vac shop can fix that!

And thank you for your kind words about the progress of my machine!

Ben, I'm pretty sure you could just unbend the little motor fan.

Les, use a Helicoil?

My Dad was able to fix the armature's cooling fan, straightening it back into shape.

I have not but I'm guessing weed whacker drill stylegets in tight spaces cuts screws.
I'm pretty sure I'm close where would I get one.
