I purchased a Hoover 425 several years ago and I have some questions about the machine.
Are the brush roller and belt pulley compatible with each other? The roller appears to be suitable for flat belts, while the pulley seems to accept round belts.
How can I remove the brush roller? I tried to pry up the tab in the third image (and the one on the other side) and it would not budge.
What is the purpose of the folding stand in Picture 4?
Thanks.

Folding stand is a belt guard, to keep the belt from burning your carpet. The agitator might just need a little coaxing to come out.

The pulley is the correct one for the flat belt.

To get the agitator (brush roll) out
1. take off the bottom plate
2. take the belt off the pulley
3. lift the belt guard (the thing in the center)
4. Raise the lugs at each end toward the front of the machine.
5. the agitator should just lift out.

If the lugs are stuck you might need to take a screwdrive and GENTLY pry up the lugs. It could be held in place by rust or string on the end of the agitator pushing outward on the clamping levers (the lugs).
