I took a tour of the factory in Saint James Missouri and I was impressed by how the vacuum was made and painted. They have a awesome vacuum museum!!! Has anyone else been there?

"some Tom fellow I hear he frequents the area".

So funny! I hear he frequents it daily - and they give him a paycheck to do so. Biggly! Plus health insurance, a 401K, profit sharing, life insurance, etc. And all he does all day long is talk about HIS vintage vacuum cleaners that are on display. What a terrible job for a vacuum cleaner collector. To be forced by your job to meet the public and talk about vacuums - and get paid for it - that must be the worst job in the world.

some have heard that said museum might/will/is going to close.People often hear that it's wonderful, and others hear differently.
I was in St. Louis at a convention. at a different part of town, and didn't tour the museum.I have been to other museums, however.

I was to the museum 2 years ago and enjoyed it very much. It was great to see and touch all the vacuums as well as to meet Tom and his partner. Tom knows everything there is to know about vacuums, old and new. I'd love to go back again sometime.

There is no alternate fact:

Tom Gasko is the most knowledgeable man about all vacuum brands and their histories and achievements who is living today.

I've seen him welcome strangers into the museum and with genuine enthusiasm take them through the history of our beloved machines.

He's almost single handedly keeping the fire burning.

Thanks Tom for all you do everyday!

We love and admire you!

Hey

lesinutah's profile picture
He has worst job in the world. They moved his desk to the basement and he threatened to burn down the building.
He also called gotta get a Hoover an idiot. He definitely has multiple personalities. He is mean on internet and sarcastic. He wants to burn down the building and the vacuum museum is probably outsourcing parts and selling off museum collection and hopefully it's all done before they move his desk again. Seriously I'm guessing Tom gasko could give two somethings to anything to do with me I don't blade him if I were him I understand why. So no love lost.
I do want to meet Tom just to prove I'm a nice guy and English and posting isn't my strong subjects but I'm very intelligent more so than my shoddy posts.
Well that is all.

I do believe at this point you are stirring the pot in a public forum and it would be to your advantage to not say anything at all.

Very childish. Would've expected more from Vacuumland. Why does it seem every misunderstanding or slight difference of opinion on here has to turn into some petty argument? Is it necessary to turn these threads into places of hostility and sensitivity? This should be a place of fun and enjoyment, but when you pollute the threads with this type of content it ruins it for everyone. All you guys do is instigate argument by leaving sarcastic replies to peoples posts instead of discussing things like adults, and hell I learned to do that in 2nd grade. If you would like to complain to each other, feel free to do so privately in e-mails or another form of communication, as I'm sure I speak on EVERYONES behalf when I say we could do without this immaturity. No disrespect to anyone, however I am just tired of reading this type of content on a forum intended to bring collectors together. I understand nobody gets along with everyone, but you don't need to display it publicly.

museum

The museum is awesome, I had my first visit in 2015 for my birthday. Since I love canisters, my favorite room is the 1950's. That decade brought us some of the best canisters ever made. Eureka made some awesome machines, the Apex Stratocleaner, the Sunbeam Dual Deluxe, the Hoover constalation, the models from Electrolux and Airway, and let's not forget the Lewyt machines, including the zapper that was known for shocking and electrocuting people.

I have seen posts from dysonman every so many times a month about vacuums from the museums collection being offered for sale, so it makes me wonder if it is closing up too.

I can't imagine it doesn't get any revenue as you just google the name and you get thousands upon thousands of posts from people saying they loved it and it was the most unique museum they ever saw. I don't think I seen one negative remark about it.

I quoted office space. I'm not stirring the pot. He said a sarcastic remark and I replied sarcastically.
Electroluxx you do realize trying to call me out every couple months is quite routine. If you didn't get office space movie from 1999 watch it the quote was quite appropriate. Trolling other people trying to question ethics. It's laughable. I made amends with tom. I don't reply to his posts and he doesn't mine. So stirring the pot I am not. I respect enough to not get carried away and basically stalk him like you do so with me.
I really don't care what you think. I wasted a whole night over a display box. We both were wrong and texaskirbyguy made us look like fools. I'm not pretending to know everything. I don't think I'm better than anyone. I worry about myself and try to be helpful. I just wish you would stop trilling my posts. It's like hall monitor going to give me a speeding ticket.
I try to help people. I may not be precise with my answers as I haven't dealt with specific machines. My advice is well advised and helpful. If I have specific knowledge I go into detail.
Thanks for letting me know this is a public forum. I wasn't aware you cared so much about my thoughts to comment back. I really appreciate it but maybe the part of my post about worrying about yourself and help others is something you could ponder. I really wish you would we're in public and people read what we post.
To Tom I really don't have to say much. We have an understanding. I do appreciate your curtness and wish you well.

I would like to thank SO MANY members for their kindness, numerous emails, calls, etc that poured in this week, after a very sad, embarrassing, mean-spirited post was made about me. (I) wasn't embarrassed at all. But. And, thank you, Robert, for pulling it from the forum. The world is full of bad things. We don't need to add to it, right?
We cannot be responsible for other people's actions, and, I do not plan to ever address those who'd thrive on nasty actions, etc.
To tie in to vacuums.... I've been to 2 vac museums. It is nice to see models, learn the history, see the advancement of the4 industry, etc., with correct and accurate information.
Although, as most of you know, I'm "All things Hoover". However, if you've ever seen pics from my (rather fun and successful, I must admit) mini meets, you'll see that I welcome other collectors AND their foreign species)to me) in my home.
I AM sorry that anyone had to witness anything distressing in here, however.
I appreciate so many of you. Please know that.

"---rumours were true."

"You can apologize to John now."--Does 'you' mean me for asking for real facts on a question that is still not fully answered here?We now know Tom has left Tacony.Tom is opening a vac store/museum.Tom has taken and will attempt to take his vintage vacs.Tacony has had many changes in employees and manufacturing locations.I do NOT know(from Vacuumland)if Tacony will close completely or attempt to operate some type of museum/factory store similar to that which has done so well for years with many happy visitors/customers.
Museums in general including car museums that I have followed in vintage car magazines do have many changes including selling duplicate/surplus items.
Many things also have a story and the real story.DTD salesmen learn the customers objection can have the reason and the real reason.
We can also learn from Dragnet--"--just the facts--".

Ten years was a very good run for the vacuum museum. It was a bit controversial from the business side, since the museum displayed vacuums from competing brands. I was a little surprised that Tom was allowed to display relatively recent models from competitors like Dyson, Kirby, Rainbow, Hyla, Aerus/Lux and others. Most companies would only allow models of their own to be displayed. Congratulations Tom on a good run.

It's truly amazing that the vacuum museum lasted so long. My memory is far from perfect, but I can remember a story on vacuumland Tom told about throwing the Riccar/Simplicity rep out of his vacuum store back in the days when he was enamored with Dysons. The Tacony guy made the mistake of telling Tom that he should sell more of their products instead of what he felt was best for the consumer. I was amazed to hear that he had been hired by Tacony to host a museum. I would have expected someone less knowledgeable that would push Tacony products. While working for Tacony, Tom actually said nice things about other brands - i.e. competitors vacuums. I was amazed when he showed a picture of his partner vacuuming his house with a new Miele upright. Tacony was in a bitter war with Miele, yet Tom had a Miele in his home. I only met Tom once when visiting the museum. I purchased several vacuums, and he always gave good advice. He didn't try to upsell me anything. I wasn't a fan of the tandem vacuums due to their complexity, and he didn't try to push them. When I was looking for a small canister for a gift, he steered me towards the most cost effective option, even thought it was considerably less than the Wonder.
