Hello Folks,

Was the z25 ever fitted with an aluminium filter housing/motor end (sprayed dark green)?

At the moment there is pre war lux on EBAY UK listed as ' antique vintage 1930s vacuum cleaner with wooden case'. It has been fitted with a z55 hose and has a bakelite topped sprayer and what looks like a brown bakelite hairdryer attachment.

Could this be the elusive model Z15?

Regards, Walter, Shropshire.

Hey Walter

Neither have I. Its either a very early one or a replacement someone has painted to match.

Doug

Aha, thank you - found it. Mysterious!

I haven’t seen a machine with rear filter casing like that previously. Wonder if metal versions were offered as spares at some point, after the original marbled green Bakelite ones were no longer available? The finish has an odd texture that doesn’t look original somehow...

Not convinced the dryer attachment is a genuine Lux accessory, I bet generic dryer attachments were available for use with cylinder vacuums at the time. Electrolux user guides show people drying their hair just using the warm exhaust air from the machine, I haven’t yet seen a mention of an actual heating element accessory. I wouldn’t claim to be a Lux expert though, so correct me if I’m wrong!

I’d be half tempted to buy it to take a closer look, but I’ve just acquired a Z25E this week. It’s a duplicate (in nicer condition) for another I already had, so I probably don’t need a third!

Hello Jack,

I am sure you are correct about the hair dryer attachment; probably made by a domestic appliance co long since gone.

I have three Z25E's. They are all in good condition and all have there boxes which I have restored. The best is all complete but for the lack of boxed tube of carpet shampoo. The other two are good but I did not need them: they were located relatively local and inexpensive. Only downside is that due to the deep bakelite motor holder/ bulk head, extracting the motor unit for servicing can be rather awkward!

I have reached fully capacity storage and ideally must now exercise self control on ebay!!!

Regards.
