I recently got a Lux Intelligence vacuum cleaner peviously owned by my grandparents. They bought it back in 2011. My grandmother turns 90 soon and she is too old to use the machine herself, so she gave this wondeful appliance to me. I was just wondering what are the main differences between this and the current S115 model sold here in Finland... In the European Union selling new vacuum cleaners more powerful than 1400 watts was banned in 2014 and that had an effect on some vacuum cleaner manufactures - however the Lux Intelligence is only 1200 watts. So is the main difference between the machines only the colour? The both machines use same filters and dust bags and the nozzles are also interchangeable.

If I have understood right, they still sell this older Intelligence model as Sauber Intelligence in the Australia and a 110v model with different powerhead as Aerus Lux Guardina Platinum in the USA and the S115 model is only sold in the Europe.

The new S115 from Lux International looks like it no longer has the stainless steel body. It has a floor power nozzle with a different shape and different electronic controls. I'm not sure what other differences there are.

So it seems that nobody on this forum acutally owns a S115.

Actually the floor power nozzle that I have with my Intelligence really needs improvement. Maybe the S115 one is better and that's why it looks different.

Older Luxes like D820/Lux1 Royal had older style of power nozzle, like those made in Sweden in the 1970s. And it really was a good power nozzle and maybe that's why they used the same model about 30 years with only minor changes.

The S115 version gets stuck easily and then the protection circuit cuts off the power. For some reason, these Europen versions use different power nozzles than US Aerus ones. Someone might have said that Lux S115 power mozzle is made by Sebo in Germany. And the Aerus ones are, I think, still made in the USA.

The Aerus (Electrolux) power nozzle is awesome. It cleans so much of the rug at once, and has a GREAT brush roll that really digs the sand and grit from the rug.
I bought one of the very first Electrolux Guardian Platinum models and still use it quite often. The fit and finish are of the highest quality.

@TLFinland

You are right about few owning the S115. There will be almost no one in the U.S. that ever will own one. Few people in the U.S. are aware of Lux International's existence. They have no operations present here and do not sell here. Lux International and Aerus are *not* the same company. They are both totally independent of each other in terms of ownership and leadership of the corporations. However, they both know of each other because they are both descendants of the original company started by Axel Wenner-Gren. They do share with Aerus LLC somehow because Aerus imports the machines from Lux International's plants.

*I also take back what I said earlier. The new S115 does appear stainless steel.

Lux International & Aerus

Aerus LLC is the US affiliate of Lux International, which is why all Aerus cleaners bear the Lux moniker. You can also go to this link and see for yourself that when you select the contact region of North America and Canada Aerus's contact information appears: www.luxinternational.com/...

Btw, Lux International AG was the vacuum cleaner division of AB Electrolux from 1919 to 1998, so Aerus has gone full circle in its association with it.

The Lux S115, Lux Intelligence Premium (with PB power brush), Lux Intelligence Classic, Sauber Intelligence SI-200 and Lux Guardian Platinum were designed by LI with variations.

+++Here are the specs of the Lux S115 from LI's website which can be compared to the Lux Intelligence's if you have them (I couldn't locate them online). One difference that popped out at me was that the former uses aroma paper rather than the essential aroma oils cup equipped on the latter:

Noise level 75dB
Energy consumption 31,2 kWh/annum
Certification TÜV NORD

Power Control

The exclusively developed innovative Intelligent Power Control combining performance with ease of use and energy optimisation. The IPC in fact adapts the suction power to the floor type and the dust bag filling level, ensuring a constant efficient suction for a constant deep cleaning result.

Thanks to the 5 stages Swiss Mediclean™ filtration system, with its exclusive Swiss HEPA™ filter, the multiple layer dust bag, the active carbon filter and the post-motor HEPA filter with anti-bacteria treatment, the S115 not only cleans your surfaces but also purifies your ambient air.

Accessories:

1) Vacuflex™

The care brush PL 1 (similar to our Sidekick III mini power nozzle) has been developed to thoroughly remove mites and allergens on mattresses and upholstery. With the patented Vacuflex™ attachment, you will never lose ground contact.

1) PB intelligence (North America's version is the N137X Power Nozzle):

The PB intelligence will tackle every floor thanks to the PowerClean and Sensiclean brush rolls for hard and delicate floors and the automatic brush roll adjustment function. The pleasant self-drive, the front search light, the foot pedal interlocking and the stand-by position will make efficient cleaning even lighter.

Two brush roll options: blue "Powerclean Plus" for standard floors and orange "Sensiclean Plus" for sensitive floors such as parquet

3) Automatic Nozzle
The patented intelligent Lux automatic nozzle adapts the height of the brush according to the cleaning surface. Thanks to the double swivel it is unequalled in its manoeuvrability and also cleans below low pieces of furniture without problem.

The Autocomb universal brush nozzle attachment is perfect to clean floors. Use it in the IPC function. The nozzle automatically tailors itself to the type of floor by raising and lowering the brush.

You can manually adjust the hard floor or carpet function using the slides on the nozzle (always use both slides simultaneously when adjusting the functions).

Parquet floor brush for Autocomb: you can use the optional floor attachment for sensitive floor types such as parquet.

The front brush strips can be changed if necessary. - Closed front brush strip: exchangeable brush strip for Autocomb universal brush. Supports better pick-up on deep grooves. - Front brush strip with openings: exchangeable nature + synthetic brush strip for Autocomb universal brush. Suitable for sensitive floors.

4) Combination Nozzle & Co (similar to North America's tools; but we do not have the radiator brush)

The small combination nozzle is the perfect helper for wiping dust, cleaning upholstery or curtains. The radiator brush and crevice nozzle are perfect accessories for dusting even the narrowest gaps.

5) Standard Telescopic Tube

6) Electric Telescopic Tube (for PL-1 and PB Intelligence; electric hose needed)

Consumables:

1) aroma paper - used with essential aroma oils; compatible with Lux S115
2) aroma set - compatible with Lux S115 containing:

- 1 bottle of "Wellness" aroma oil: Orange, Ylang Ylang, Grapefruit. Its effect: regenerating.

3) aroma package includes both 1 and 2

- 1 piece of Active Carbon Filter: the granular activated carbon reduces gases and odours of natural and chemical origin.

5) Mediclean™ long-term HEPA filter - compatible with Lux Intelligence & Lux S115

6) Mediclean™ syntetic dust bags - The highly efficient, 3-layer dust bag traps effectively dust particles and with its double-membrane system ensures that they are not released, even when the dust bag is changed. Capacity: 3 liter.

Paul's claims are somewhat misleading. He seems to be claiming that Lux International "controls" or "owns" Aerus. It does not.

The page he posted says that Lux has a "distribution partnership" with Aerus, which is true. Aerus has an arrangement to import and sell their machine (the Guardian Platinum). Also, unless the word "Lux" is trademarked in the U.S. (and there is no evidence I know of that it is) Aerus is free to use it. Aerus only surrendered the name "Electrolux." That does not mean Lux International owns or controls Aerus in any way, shape, form, or fashion. No other Aerus machines besides the Platinum are made by Lux International. Electrolux USA divorced from Europe's Electrolux decades ago long before it even thought of changing to Aerus. There was no Lux International until it was spun off by Electrolux AB. In the United States, public corporations must disclose all aspects of their operations and anyone would be able to go to federal regulatory agencies or the stock market's public records and see the corporate governance.

Lux International does not own any part of nor does it control Aerus LLC in any way. That is 100% fact and cannot be denied.

It's a mystery why Chris wants to give the impression that Aerus LLC is only loosely associated with Lux International of Switzerland.

Why would such a loose partnership allow Aerus to use the Swiss company's name on its products, include a link from Lux International's website to Aerus's as its US contact, and apparently prevent LI from marketing and selling its Lux S115 or other products in the US?

Lux International has been in existence since 1901, but from 1919 to 1998 it was merged with AB Electrolux as its floor care division. For the last twenty-one years it has gone back to using its original name as an independent company.

I do agree that Lux International only manufactures the LGP for Aerus. Aerus's other products are likely manufactured by AB Electrolux as, according to online sources, the Swedish company had handled the majority of Aerus's production since 2002 when the Aerus name began being used on products, packaging and literature. Prior to December 2016 when the Midea Group purchased Eureka this manufacturing was performed at AB Electrolux's Eureka plants.

The facts speak for themselves: Aerus LLC is the US affiliate of Lux International; although its production besides the LGP is outsourced to other companies.

That doesn't diminish Aerus's standing; it enhances it as part of a worldwide enterprise!

Do they even sell these in the US?
Difference between the Intelligence and S115 seems to be quite small.
So if I lived in the US Aerus Guardian Platinum (Intelligence) would be more than enough for me.
Quite surprising to hear the new powerhead problems.
