Found this Electrolux at a thrift store for $3.00. Suction is not good right now, I plan on taking it apart soon and cleaning it up real good, any advice would be great. Thank you.

I f you put a new bag in it just before testing, the hose is probably shot, this could be the main reason why succion is not good.

A good cleaning won't hurt anything, though.

upside down is the preferred way to open it.
There are platic slides under the side bumpers that slide towards the bag end to unlock the two halves.
Peel back the each side bumper in the front, grab the slide with needle nose pliers, and pull.
Others bang them from the back with a screwdriver to pop them loose.

It's the hose, sounds like a couple of holes in it. Took the hose off and suction is great.

I'm not surprised, most of these 40 years old cloth hoses are no good.

As for cleaning the inside, the following video may be helpful for disassembly.

I wrapped some tape around the hose until I can get a new hose, works great now.

What kind of tape did you use?

I did a few hoses with shipping tape, good results with succion, but not with pliability.

I used black electric tape, works good.

PLiability isn't an issue with electric tape ?

Even with a bad hose, you absolutely stole that sucker at just $3.00. I agree with what others have said. Woven hoses may look pretty but they become leakers over time. A good vinyl hose will put that machine to rights and considering what you have in it, you won't be breaking the bank to do it.
