...within the darkness of the furnace room lies a treasure. Long forgotten, hidden in dust, it awaits discovery. It's origin is a mystery, yet it waits...
Recently, I purchased some vacuums for my parish. They have a mix of flooring (and a lot of commercial carpet), but the church was built with "theater" floors which make canisters want to roll down hill. So, I got two commercial Royals and a PortaPower. Well, I found that the janitor had put the bag assembly on backwards on one and went to fix it. I got to looking around the furnace room (where they are kept) and discovered a Tristar CS in very good shape, with the tag! It is covered in dust and I pulled it from it's hiding space for the picture. It looks barely used, probably because of the floor issue. It smells of mildew, but the cloth bag and foam filter are pretty clean. It is missing the tools, but has the hose, wands, and power nozzle. I took it home to clean and I'll see if they want to keep it. It hasn't been touched in years and I have no idea how we got it. There are no Tristar dealers in Oregon as far as I know. At least nowhere near me.
Oh, and they also had a ton of spare Oreck XL bags and the parish hasn't had Orecks in YEARS. |

I have the CS home and am going to clean everything. First, the Mighty Mite will dust it off and then it is getting a good wipe down with some cleaner. Inside the bag compartment is very clean. The exhaust filter looks like it has captured a lot of carbon dust. I suspect it is the original one that came with the machine. The foam disk and the cloth bag are going to be thoroughly washed. I'll probably order a new foam filter at least, maybe the bag too if I can't get the smell out. I'm also going to order a full set of attachments. |

Good as new! Minus a few scuffs at least! The mildew smell had not gotten into the motor, so that's great! The upright lock mechanism on the power head is in much better shape than mine actually! It locks firmly but mine is pretty sloppy. Basically, mine hardly has a lock. Maybe a new neck would fix that... Anyhoo, she runs strong and I let the motor run a while to get hot in case any moisture was sitting inside. Extra tools and the holder are on the way! Now, let's see if the parish will let me keep it... |
