SuperJ no back filter

I agree with you about always using a 4 ply or HEPA Cloth bag in a Aerus Electrolux vacuum, but I don't agree with you about using the blue Home Solutions bags that Aerus currently makes. I have used a few of them from different packs of bags, & ALL of them have the same problem - weak filter paper that tears & leaks dirt & dust. It also seems that on both the 4 ply & blue Home Solutions bags that the sealing strip at the back of the bag can develop tears around the edge of the bag. It all depends what kind of dirt you are picking up though.

Aerus states in their warranty on their vacuums that your warranty is valid only if the blue Home Solutions are used, but due to the quality of their bags I would GLADLY use the 4 ply or HEPA Cloth bags & take my chances if the vacuum breaks under warranty. I think part of the reason the bag material was cheapened is to increase the need for the customer to take the vacuum in for service more often, & increased profits for their dealers as a result. If they denied a warranty claim for a customer using the 4 ply or HEPA Cloth bags, any lawyer worth their salt could win a claim against them based on the bag being inferior. Aerus really needs to get with the times & make HEPA Cloth bags standard on all their vacuums.

Andy & Adin - Part of the reason why the afterfilter was included on the vacuums was that they used cloth shakeout bags up until the Model LX was introduced. The afterfilter wasn't just capturing carbon dust, it was also capturing the considerable dust the cloth bag would be leaking. In my opinion, even the 4 ply bags leak enough microscopic dust that a afterfilter should be used. American collectors might be interested to know that here in Canada, our Aerus Electrolux vacuums have ALWAYS had a afterfilter, right from the very first models offered here in the early 1930's, & I have to wonder why Electrolux would have thought American consumers wouldn't care about such a feature being on a vacuum in the first place.

Checkrate/Likes Does someone know why there isn't any back filter in the SuperJs ? Is simply the design wrong and there's no room for it, or is there any other reason ? That one on the picture had a big kleenex with some lavender oil or sort of packed in the exhaust hole as a homemade filter. View Full Size

Checkrate/Likes All it would have done was caught carbon dust from the motor, filtration wise anyways. It probably would have made it slightly quieter.

Checkrate/Likes The Super J never came with any after filter nor was it an add-on option. I guess someone was too cheap to buy the Aerus Clean Sweep scent chips and decided that lavender oil on a Kleenex was the way to go. I would take that tissue out, as it may restrict airflow and cause the motor to overheat.

Checkrate/Likes 1 All other Eluxs I own have a rear filter, and everytime I buy a new one (except SuperJ's), the old filter in there is stuffed with carbon dust, what is it supposed to be for anyhow?

Checkrate/Likes 3 Originally they were there to quiet the machine. None of the Ametican metal body machines had an after filter after the E, except for the Hospital G

Checkrate/Likes Yep. The Model XXX and Hospital G both had an after filter, but the after filter wouldn't make a return until the plastic body machines came along. I wouldn't worry about an after filter unless you're using really crappy generic bags. If you have a dirty after filter, all you need to do is rinse it out and let it dry every couple of bag changes.

Checkrate/Likes But could you insert a pre motor filter ? to prevent dust from entering the motor instead of relying entirely on just a bag?

Checkrate/Likes A piece of cut-to-fit foam inside the bag chamber probably wouldn't hurt anything. Again, you really don't need any extra filters unless you're using the cheapest, crappiest generic bags.

Checkrate/Likes Electrolux's or Aerus vacuums should ALWAYS have either a 4-ply filter bag or HEPA bag or the actual Home Solutions filter bag installed. The filter after the motor on any Electrolux or Aerus is there to capture carbon dust coming from the motor itself. Older Electrolux's didn't have this filter until someone somewhere said that carbon dust is harmful to humans.
