Electrolux PN-4 Constantly Resetting

I also have a PN4 nozzle with issues. It has not been touched for about 15 years sadly because of these issues and lack of knowledge at the time (I plan to restore it now that I am a collector)

The issue I am having is a lot like yours, only my problem is the brushroll refuses to stay attached and continuously falls off or stops spinning - either from the belt or from the shaft slots. I forgot what the issue was but I know that the brushroll will spin half a rotation or 1 or 2 rotations and then quit. I had a vacuum shop look at it in 2002(?) and they tried to fix it but couldn't guarantee it. I guess it fell off again shortly after because its just been in storage ever since.

Surface rust won't hurt the switch unless its totally rusted through. From spray on polish/cleaner and lint buildup on the reset switch its not uncommon to collect moisture. Those fuses are usually pretty bulletproof. Despite the issues mine has the fuse still works and its original to the nozzle. They are very sensitive and can pick up minute little resistances in the brushroll tension and cut it off pretty fast.

But I think your issue might be similar to mine just with different results.

Checkrate/Likes I just installed a new belt on the PN-4 for my Silverado, and the powerhead keeps tripping. It's running freely and there's no obstructions. The reset switch also has some rust on it. I believe the switch was discontinued. Could someone please direct me to a replacement? Would the reset switch from a Rainbow fit? CLICK HERE TO GO TO repairman's LINK

Checkrate/Likes 2 Try taking some of the tension off the belt by loosening the bolts and sliding the motor just slightly forward. You should be able to press your finger down on the belt at the top and move it an inch downwards. Too much tension causes the reset switch to trip.

Checkrate/Likes One inch of play sounds like a lot a play for a belt so tiny mounted on a small gear. Is it a typo ?

Checkrate/Likes 1 MyPN4 would pop when I got it in 90? I contacted the Electrolux dealer in Sacramento and they picked it up and fixed it with new brushroll too, $45 I think, new breaker.

Checkrate/Likes I measured the play in my PN4 belt with pictures, it is roughly 1.5 cm or 0.6 inch, I can't imagine how it could be a 1 inch play and still be functional. Photos... < > Photo 1 of 2 View Full Size

Checkrate/Likes *Thanks Everyone* The belt was too tight. I adjusted it with a little bit of slack and the problem stopped.

Checkrate/Likes *I don't know* I just slid the motor as far toward the brushroll as it would go. There wasn't much play, even with all 3 screws loose.
