It isn't very often that I get the chance to make breakfast on a Saturday morning.  I've been craving homemade waffles for quite some time so today it was time to satisfy my desire.  I found this waffle iron in my Grandma Baumann's living room closet when cleaning out her home about 10 or so years ago after she moved to an  assisted living center.  It was found in the original box, with the hang tag, and the instruction guide.  It was so clean that it looks like it was only used a few times before being put away.

I served the waffles with real WI maple syrup and steamed kielbasa.

This recipe has never failed me.  This is the recipe my Grandma Wilde used.

Sour Milk Waffles

2 eggs

2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted

1 tsp. baking soda

2/3 tsp. baking powder

¼ tsp. salt

2 cups sour milk

5 tbsp. melted butter or margarine

Beat eggs, add milk, add sifted flour with soda and baking powder.  Add remaining dry ingredients.  Lastly, add melted butter.  Bake in a preheated waffle iron until steaming stops.

Tip:  To make your own sour milk, measure 4 tsps. white vinegar into a 1 cup measuring cup, and add enough milk to equal 1 cup.  Let stand about 5 minutes before adding to your recipe.

P.S., I also added 1 tsp. vanilla extract to enhance the flavor.

It doesn't look like that waffle iron has ever been seasoned. How do you keep the waffles from sticking?

It has been seasoned, and the waffles come out like a dream.  Just lucky I guess?!?
