The ‘art’ and sickness....of collecting:
I have three of the four years the Shag King was produced by Kirby , but no Shag carpeting!!! What’s the point then right? Argh
Lol. Here is the Classic 1-CR, Omega, & Classic III SK’s . I haven’t found the elusive Tradition SK yet .

TO shag...

The proper solution would be to get yourself some shag so you can use the 'Kings!
I wonder if you can even find shag anywhere if you wanted some....
The special instruction booklet is a pretty cool addition to your collection.

I'll bet they sell shag area rugs still. Better than trying to find shag for wall to wall lol

You sure can get shag rugs,

Some friends of mine special ordered a couple made into area rugs, one is black with red and the other is black with blue. They are gorgeous! These have the advantage of newer carpet technology and more updated colors etc. Much plusher, very showy which is why an area rug is probably all you'd want in a given room.

I just obtained the last piece to my Shag King accessories ....I’m now ready for any ‘shag’ carpet...no matter which 70’s Kirby I’m using!! Haha ( yes, it’s very unlikely). This is just a ‘collecting’ thing, not a need or even a practical use acquisition . Anyone else have all 4 of these ‘unlikely to ever be used’ attachments?

You can always build a fake floor and install wall to wall carpeting or something of similar material to it to demonstrate.

This article is from 2013 but evidently they sell a lot of shag carpet styles to use in kids' rooms: retrorenovation.com/2013/10/24/f...

....or use it as an amazing back scratcher! (Or if you have cats I'm sure screwing one to a wall would make them go wild with it) lol

I had a friend back then who installed carpeting ,

and he said it was easy to install. Hiding your seams where two pieces butt together was a piece of cake. Used to see shag virtually everywhere and it was the go to for custom van and campers. One of my brothers and a couple friends carpeted the whole wall behind his bed. 8X10. For a 14 yr. old kids first attempt he did a pretty good job! Ah the memories!

My mom bought shag carpeting in the early 70's. Before that she had hardwood floors covered with an

oval rug in the dining room and a large rug in the living room on top of the hardwood floors. I bought

her a Hoover model 70 NIB as she was using a  Westinghouse straight suction cleaner at the time. When

she remodeled the living room with new drapes, couches, tables etc, she put in wall to wall shag carpet.

I bought her a NIB Hoover Model 70 and it worked great. It had a normal and shag setting. It worked

great, she didn't even have to change the setting to the shag setting. Her carpet lasted for years and the

Hoover even worked on the hardwood floors in the bedrooms as long as you put it on the shag setting,

for quick pick ups.....dust mop for under the beds.....

With that said, these newer carpets like frieze (not sure of spelling), have warnings from manufacturers.

The CRI (Carpet Rug Institute website gives recommendations for vacuums for different carpets.)

Shag

Gore's carpet in Tabor City NC has a TON of NOS shag carpet still on the rolls. Just FYI if anyone here is in the south.

there were 5 shag kings. the kirby heritage had is as an option the first year only in grey to match the attachments. i have seen it occasionally on ebay. the hertiage also had a handibutler. i have seen one of those personally. again very rare and discontinued shortly into the run.

I've never seen one for a heritage nor a handy butler, those would be rare!
