Hey everyone, I bought a Panasonic 661 on Ebay and now I'm in the middle of my first restoration. The noisy motor bearings have to be changed, so I removed the Matsushita 2V-531M motor and started to tear it down, but I can't get the damn thing to come apart.

I drilled out the four rivets attaching the shroud and removed the fan nut, but it still won't come loose. It looks like there are some dimples on the motor housing. Are those to make it totally impossible to remove and rebuild? Tom says he's rebuilt these before, many years ago, so there has to be a way. I'm concerned I will distort the motor housing if I keep monkeying around with it.

Does anyone know how to get this thing apart?

I'm guessing but.
The black rubber casing comes off.
The screws adjacent to the 2v-531m come out. You will remove all surrounding screws it is a housing for the motor. It's basically looks an encased cannister motor.

Just easy once removed.

Those two dimples in the middle of the motor housing in picture 1, those are likely just stops to hold the field coil. I bet if you actually get the fan blade off, it will reveal its secrets to you.

Yeah I figure the rubber boot slides off (might be glued on?), and under there they hid the screws or more rivets. Just remember, Japanese things are always needlessly complex, so it's kind of like a puzzle, just need to figure out the right order to solve it.

It would be cool if there was a main link on the homepage to where there is a database of everyone's tutorials on how to disassemble and refurbish various motors, that would be a really handy thing.
