Hi All -
Just looking for opinions on something - Not looking to start a battle over a product... We have all white wall to wall carpet in our home, that is now 23 yers old, and still white... We also have a dog, and cat.. and up until last September had two Cats... (RIP Buster...)... . I keep the carpets perfectly white using two things - A Rub doctor Mighty Pro X3 that we do the entire house with once per year - And then 3-5 times per year, I use Dyson's Zorb Carpet Powder... I found it better then Capture in that it is a larger particle that does not destroy the vacuum quit as fast as less passes through the bag or cyclone... . The ONLY downside to Zorb is the scrubbing it in by hand, when doing the ENTIRE house... The instructions from Dyson always showed either using the Zorbster attachment on the correct EU Dyson which we never got, Scrubbing it in by hand with a brush or the Zorb attachment, OR taking the bin off of the Dyson, and using the Power Brush Nozzle with no suction - . I was thinking last night, Since I have three of the Hoover Air Revolves left in storage (Gave 2-to my nieces) I could take one of them, install a small rocker switch to cut out the suction motor, and still allow the power nozzle to run and brush in the Zorb... . Do you think the brush on the power nozzle would be as effective as scrubbing it in by hand? I would make up some sort of "PLUG" to block the opening in the brush head so the Zorb does not build up in the intake opening - . I would clean the power head throughly after use so as to prolong its life - I could also then dedicate that one Air Revolve to exclusive Zorb Carpet Cleaning... . Thoughts... Thanks in advance - Dan |

I really think that it would be a lot cheaper to just use a household broom, or even find a extension brush of some sort that would do a wide area, at your local hardware store. I think it would be worth the money and less "invasive" for the vacuum and on time for yourself. Especially because the Hoover air revolve doesn't have an adjustable power nozzle. I'm not sure as to how well the power nozzle works on its own. But again, some canister vacuums that don't work well on some carpets work well on others. But I think that would be my last resort if I even came up with that To begin with. Because the Dyson attachment isn't very still. So maybe a stiffer wide area brush with a long handle would do just as well. And use a smaller brush from tight spaces.

The Air Revolve will operate without the bin in place, and there will be no suction to the nozzle, but the brush will run. Use that to scrub in the Zorb powder if you wish. By the way, Tacony made a machine that uses two counter-rotating brushes to scrub in the powder and it does an amazing, super fast job. While it was discontinued some time ago, the Outlet Store does still have one new one in stock. It's called the Riccar Dry Carpet Cleaning Machine "Carpet Keeper".

This is the simplicity version that we use at work with capture. It would work great with Zorb

Thank you all for the information - I was going to hack the hoover more as a project, and to see how it was built - I knew I could just pull the bin, but then I would have nothing to tinker with - I will most likely still hack it !!! (I will take pictures of what is inside...)
. I just saw Tom's post as well about the Simplicity Scrubber - But I guess timing is everything - . Right after I put up this post, I saw a used DryLux on eBay that they were asking $54 for - I countered at $50.00 including shipping and he said no and refused the offer - . 5-minutes later I found a NIB Electrolux DryLux ( Lised as Dry Lux) Carpet Cleaner on eBay - They wanted $65 - I offered $50.00, and they accepted - I just paid for it - I think the brush Roll in the Drylux will be much better at scrubbing in the Zorb then i have been doing by hand - If it eventually craps out, then I will get one of the Simplicity Scrubbers - . I will post some pictures when it arrives - |

So This is what the Electrolux Drilux Version of the Kit Looks Like - Clearly nothing more then the TriStar DryStar head relabeled by Electrolux after their purchase of TriStar...
. From the date on the bag looks like the powder was made in the 39th week of 2000 - I have to assume the nozzle was from about the same time - . The Logo is the original Electrolux Logo, Dallas Address, and WWW.ELUX.COM Website - . The two pictures of the top and bottom were from a web search as the seller I won from did not take the head out of the plastic - The picture of the Kit New in the Box is from the Auction I won yesterday - . According to Tom G. they work very well and should serve my purpose well for $50.00... Dan |
