Growing up I remember my grandparents having a big old Chrome Electrolux floor polisher it looked like an upright and had two brushes underneath for cleaning the floor and then wool pads for polishing it. Now I bought my first house and it has hardwood floors everywhere. I like using paste wax on the floors as opposed to mop & Glo, so I'm looking for a machine so I can polish the floors like my grandparents used to. I'd prefer an older machine like 50s vintage they're usually made better and they're just cool. I was looking at an Electrolux B8 but what do you guys recommend?

I intend to use this thing fairly often, how easy is it to get replacement pads and brushes? And do the replacements actually work well?

Ok, last question. I want to use Johnsons paste wax on the floor. I use it on my shopsmith and a few other things in the house and what I've noticed is it seems to be hard wearing and leaves a good shine. Is there something better? How would I apply it with the B8 I'm guessing wool pads? Does it need anything special to attach them? Also are the floor brushes too rough on the finish of the floor or do they work well? Sorry for all the questions I'm just new to this, and I have chestnut floors that have been refinished by the previous owners so I'm afraid to ruin them.

The wool pads snaps on the floor brush 3 of em in a triangle partern .Just put the 3 brushes on the machine and add the wool pads they snap on easy. The brush are gentle enough for floors no scratch as long you keep the machine mooving and use it properly. The waxx will be ok in a mist sprayer bottle apply by spray and pass on floor whit buffer.

I have an Electrolux Floor Pro and it will shampoo, polish, scrub, etc. You can get supplies on the

Aerus website or from Kirbyneeds Ebay.....Kent Oyler is great to deal with and ships fast. For the

paste wax, I use Howards. You can find it on Amazon.

I would recommend

A Regina or Kenmore polisher with the tank. If it has the 6 inch brushes, you can still buy them because Koblenz acquired Regina's Polisher division years ago. They can also be used as a carpet shampooer if you want. Parts will be easier to find since the exact equivalent is still made today.

2 are good,3 are much better

The 3rd brush and overall quality of the Electrolux B-7,B-8 or later B-9/Floor Pro make it the best hard floor household machine I know of.
The tanks would serve no purpose with paste wax.On many wood floors you would--vacuum loose dirt-apply wax of your choice-apply wax & clean with scrub pads-buff with brush only-polish with soft pads.I have done this with Elux liquid wax on older floors with older finish. This can be changed with other floors and any choice could be tested in small area or closet.

I don't have a hardwood floor polisher recommend. My house has 400-500 square feet of high grade oak. We polished it but it builds up.
We use a Bissell symphony newer version is a crosswave. It uses distilled water and cleans awesome. To be honest every 6 months we use symphony and it lightens wood and is healthier. It cleans wood but doesn't water dries quickly. It works better than any polisher and keeps wood clean.
I'm just throwing out my experience. I also used bona but thought I'd put 2 cents in.

Not vintage- but will buff and clean sealed hardwood

got2bjennyg's profile picture
I'm actually picking up one of these myself today- Bissell spinwave. It comes with two sets of pads (soft set for hardwood and other floors and a set with microfiber scrubbers for sticky messes). There is a reservoir for water and your choice of cleaning solution. It doesn't spray continuously, only when you momentarily activate the spray. I have some luxury vinyl planking on my lower lever and in my kitchen which cannot be cleaned with steam. I plan on using this for those areas and my sealed wood floors in the living room, dining room and foyer area.

Reviews on this are actually much better than the crosswave or Hoover floormate.

This weekend, Biglots has 20% (Saturday for rewards members and Sunday for all). They carry this product in many of their stores for $99.99. I have $15 in reward discounts, so I'm gong today to pick it up for $67.99 plus tax.

I've used Mop and Glo, Bona, and restore before in my fiance's house and my parents house, but they only seem to really look good for a month or so then the floor looks dull again. I got down on my hands and knees and did the area in front of my front door with paste wax and it's been a few months and it hasn't really dulled yet. So I'm thinking that using paste will let me clean the room with just basic sweeping and occasional mopping, and allow me more time between reapplications. What do you guys think? Although I wish I could apply paste with the machine too. That's where the liguids really have paste beat. There is a few Regina 2 brush machines on Craigslist locally for $30 but most of them don't have brushes.I'm kind of stuck, I like the Electrolux because it's a cool looking old machine, it's electrolux so it's pretty much indestructible, and I've heard the 3 brushes make it easier to steer. But if I buy an early "B" machine versus a later "B" series machine made by areus will I have trouble getting the floor pads? I saw a picture of a b12 it looks awesome in all chrome but I can't find one of those.

All the 3 brush Electrolux buffers up to the current Aerus models use the same pads and brushes. They just attach differently (twist on now, snap on before), but they are compatible.

Ok so this really seems like the way to go. One last question what is the difference between the B series polishers is the 7 not as good as the 8, is the 9 better than all of them? Or is it just colors?

Functionally they are all the same. The earlier metal ones are nicer for buffing as they put more weight on the brushes.

Electrolux 3 brush polishers

There were also B-3--B-6 3 brush polishers from 30s to 50s but the B-7 and later are better and still a great choice for hard floors.
As with many polishers some Elux have added weights for proper pressure on brushes.
Brushes--I think the B-8 brush will fit the B-7 but the B-7 will not fit the B-8.The B-9 changed to a 'twist off'brush that should NOT be used on B-8 and B-8 brush should NOT be used on B-9.Pads are same except for some B-7s with different brush holders.
B-7--Was hard floor only machine with T shaped handle and 2 speed switch. Some had small metal tank for liquid wax.
B-8--Added shampoo parts for the increasingly popular wall to wall carpet as well as continuing as a great polisher. Was 1 speed. Some had removable cord as on Mo L vac.
B-9--Added more plastic parts, cordwinder and trigger on handle for shampoo tank.Polishing brushes were often optional as most customers used as shampooers.

I finally found a B8 on ebay that didn't look worn out, and it actually matches my Electrolux canister. The only thing is the owner decided to break up all the parts, I emailed her and she said she would consider taking an offer on everything, but she separated everything to "maximize her profits". The machine is one of the blue ones, thats one auction, then she has the following in separate auctions she has the hard wood brushes, carpet brushes, brown pads (I hear you can apply paste wax with them), green pads, bumper, soap dispenser, brush holder platform, and some kind of metal plate that attaches to the machine. What do you guys think would be a fair price to offer for the machine? If I were to pay for all her auctions Id be in for over $300 which compared to other machines is almost triple, but most machines dont come with more than one set of brushes.

B-8

B-8 is a great machine and the blue would be the first of about 1970.
You might want to consider that if you will not shampoo rugs(which it can also do well)you would not need the soft shampoo brushes, soap dispenser(tank),or the "metal plate" if is actually blue plastic with a lock button in the middle(suds shield). The 'bumper' is probably the splash guard that prevents suds or cleaning solution from splashing on baseboards, etc.
An Elux polisher can often be found in 'low mileage'condition as they usually were used for spring cleaning type jobs and even less frequently as 'miracle'waxes,no wax floors and spray can shampoo were introduced and promoted.

Ok, I'm looking at one on eBay now, it's Gold so it's a later one. It's still a B8 though is there any draw backs to this model? I wish someone on here had one for sale.

Post# 404794 , Reply# 25   1/29/2019 at 15:29 (1,884 days old) by rugsucker (Elizabethton TN)
B-8

As I said above they are great machines. The gold started in 1974 for the 50th anniversary.
If you are looking at the one from isoldit it looks VERY good and complete. The owners manual is a nice bonus. You would only need to add soft polishing pads. The suds shield(ONLY for use with soft brushes) has minor damage from being used with hard floor brushes that would not be a problem if push lock button is good. The paper tag on cord since new would confirm a 'low mileage' Electrolux. The handle can be unlatched and folded forward for storage/carrying.

It was that one and I did buy it, the other ones on there looked pretty worn. The woman I didn't buy from, had these pads for sale are they worth buying

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0QUESTI...

I've been trying to read as much as I can on the site, and I read somewhere the brown pads are for applying the paste wax is that true? I'm guessing I should buy the lambs wool for polishing it off though right?

Post# 404822 , Reply# 27   1/30/2019 at 08:40 (1,883 days old) by rugsucker (Elizabethton TN)
B-8

Congratulations!Looked like a near new B-8.In many ways I prefer these to the B-9 and later.
Pads-If you are looking at the 3 brown & 3 green you don't need as them as the gold one includes a supply of green pads. You would need the soft pads, either permanent lambs wool type with the snap fastener in center or disposable felt type to use both sides and discard when worn.
To get an idea of what is best for your floors--Read the original owners manual--Consider different types of wax--Consider advice from floor installer/refinisher--Test in small area or closet.

Soft polishing pads--

--should be at Aerus branch or vac/janitor supply stores if any in your area or online.
