Hi all, hope you can help.

I just got this Convertible, model U4109, and the bulb is blown. What kind of bulb is this? All the stores around me have the bulb, but it's a bayonet base.

Thanks in advance.

Alex

Yes, it is a bayonet base. It's a 120V 15W watt bulb. I know Menards sells them under the Westinghouse brand.

I'll look on their website, but the bayonet base that they were selling was not the circular base that I have, it was more of an oval base.

Ba15d dual bayonet dual polarity.
That is the bulb you want to look for I believe Sylvania 1650. Led it varies I could give you a link I have went through numerous led bulbs I found good I also found garbage. The Kirby vacuums 505-classic 1, every royal that has alight new or old, eureka and sanitairre from 1970s to present take the same bulb, my riccar 8650 took same bulb new if they don't have cluster led lights they will take the bulb.
Since almost every single vacuum takes them. I found the best brands. But 1650 Sylvania any auto parts store has them.

Lesinutah

Could you please post links to the good LED's you've had experience with? I'd be interested in putting an LED in it.

This the bulbs are a little longer but there best I have bought.
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0QUESTI...
This one I just received these there average length it took almost 3 weeks to get but 10 bulbs for $18 is best bulb for price by far.
The selection of white bulb and everything I ordered. They both Re really good it depends if you want to wait.
With led never twist the top silicone twist and the bottom only insert only touching metal and when taking out.
These are sturdier than most but the light source is a silicone top not glass like standard bulbs.
You won't go back

If you're referring to the shape of the two contacts on the bottom, some designs have different shapes (some round, some oblong), it doesn't matter.

Led bulbs?
The polarity is reference I mean. If it's single polarity it's not going to work. If sold in hardware I'd be intrigued because I have looked albeit probably the wrong section.

those I use too

THE ones Les posted off Ebay are the ones I"ve ordered from and used. Work great but I didn't order as many as he did, so my price was more. LED run so much cooler and no twisting off bulb as he mentioned.

So I ended up finding a regular bulb. Where I am at, Menards and Lowe's did not have the round contacts, but my local Ace Hardware did. So I picked one up. I have a few questions though I hope you guys can clear up:

1) So in regards to the contacts on the bulb, does it matter whether it's the oval contacts or the circular ones, even though the socket has the circle contacts? The reason I ask is that I went through all of this with a 1950's Convertible I once owned. I had a good bulb, and it acted like it wouldn't fit. Was I doing something wrong, or is my late 1970's metal base Convertible slightly different?

2) To Les or rivstg1, could one of you please post a different link, or just an item number? The link that was posted just takes me to the eBay main page for some reason. I think I found it, but I just want to be sure.

I want to personally thank everyone for their replies. They have been most helpful.

-Alex

Alex,

I found that if the machine in question uses dual filaments (dual lead ends in the old bulbs) and were round, the replacements ( non original) were oval and worked the same

Oval leads are fine. The LED bulbs I run in my 62 are the oval lead bulbs. No issues

It doesn't matter the leads. I caution again installing and installing use delicacy. I bought alot I love to have spare. I have a bunch of belts bags and lights. You never know. I got my eureka imperial upright. I noticed white plastic but sanitairre had a light and this did too.
I prefer led.

Update...

So I thought I'd give an update to the bulb challenge. I was perusing Menards again, and they had a 25 watt LED bayonet bulb on the rack. I had a 15% off bag, so I figured I would try it. It's a Meridian brand, and is rated at pulling 3 watts, but is equivalent to 25 watts. Good for 15,000 hours. So this bulb had the oval bayonet contacts that I was wondering about, and lo and behold, the bulb popped right in, no problem. And it works perfectly. No flickering or anything weird. Seems to be bright enough and works well.

Thank you again everyone for the replies, and I have included a link to the bulb in case anyone was curious.

If a bulb flickering 2 things. The bulb is over or under powered usually lower Watts less likely it is to work.
Second polarity issue.
Les
Thanks for info
